Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 63.238.139.248 (talk) at 17:15, 12 January 2007 (Spoh8434→ ohiostbuck12345). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Rogerrohrbach → Roger_Rohrbach

  • Current name: Rogerrohrbach (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Roger_Rohrbach (change username)
  • Reason: As in several cases above, I didn't realize my full name is a valid username, prefer that, and cannot create a new account because of similarity to existing username. -- Rogerrohrbach

Not done You have only one edit with that account, to post this request. You may simply create the new account with the capitalization and the spaces that you want, and start editing from it. If you wish, you may also turn the user page and talk page of the present account into redirects to the relevant pages of your new account, so as to establish that they are both controlled by the same person — but preferably, please opt for only one of them to edit from. • Requested name: Chicagoan (change username)
  • Reason: As my current username is actually my real name, I would like to become anonymous and limit the connection between the two. -- user 14:42, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
 Not done - we already have a User:Chicagoan. Warofdreams talk 03:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Qzzz → っ (review previous change)

There is no Changing Username Review, so I'm bringing this up on this page.

This user was forced to change their username due to a misguided en.wikipedia policy that previously stated that non-latin usernames are not permitted. However, this is the same user across many wikimedia projects:

m:Requests_for_permissions#User:っ

Note that this username is perfectly correct on this user's home wiki (ja.wikipedia).

Consensus on meta between several wiki communites has it that this forced name change should not happen. Bureaucrats and stewards on other wikis have stated that they are loath to accept it. When Single User Login is introduced, the SUL system and policy will -among many things, as part of its normal function- enforce reinstatement of this username on en.wikipedia in software. We are in the process of revising en.wikipedia policy to bring it in line.

In the mean time, the old username should be reinstated as quickly as possible, if only because otherwise the SUL-changeover will make a change harder at a later date. (IIRC it would create a new account っ, but leave all edits attributed to Qzzz, if that account still existed at that time).

I think that we should not accept any further requests based on the now hopefully deprecated non-latin name policy, as per the request by Aphaia to all wiki-communities on meta.

If nescessary, please also contact this user. In fact, that would probably be a good idea. :-)

Feel free to contact me for more information, if available.

Strong support for this request. +sj + 07:27, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'd like to request changing the username back to "っ".--っ (Tsutsu) 05:34, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{not done}} (note: template "nowikied" to allow bot to properly archive) I do oppose the name change, and have stated it in the discussion page listed above. We don't have a set policy in place to change usernames to non-Latin scripts at the moment. The debate is ongoing, not deprecated, and till them, I'd prefer to keep this in abeyance. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:07, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done per posterior discussions on WT:USERNAME and policy amendment. Redux 11:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. Please choose another name. — Deon555talkdesksign here! 23:28, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I regret to inform you that I own this name; I created it a long time ago, a time where I wasn't aware that it was against the rules to do so. If I need to prove I own this name, how should I do so. Also, I'd like to also have this account removed, so my current account can assume said name. BishopTutu 01:46, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki_fanatic → WikiFanatic

 Done Redux 11:50, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jt64 → jjasi

Done per privacy concerns. Although the name chosen was very close to an existing account, User:Jjasiem, I noticed that that account was created in early October 2006 [2] and was never used, and decided that it should not prevent this rename. Please notice, however, that a limitation of our software makes it mandatory for the first letter of usernames to be capitalized, so your new username is Jjasi.
