Sengkang Group Representation Constituency (Simplified Chinese: 盛港集选区 Tamil: செங்காங் குழுத்தொகுதி[1]) is a four-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern region of Singapore. The constituency consists parts of the Sengkang town area.[2] The four divisions of the GRC are Anchorvale, Rivervale, Compassvale and Buangkok.

As of the 2020 Singapore general election, Sengkang GRC is held by the Workers' Party and led by He Ting Ru.

History

The boundaries of the current GRC consists of most part of the former Sengkang West SMC (with the rest going to Ang Mo Kio GRC), the whole of the former Punggol East SMC and the Sengkang Central ward from Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC. Sengkang West SMC and Punggol East SMC were previously helmed by then Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transport, Dr. Lam Pin Min and Charles Chong respectively, while Teo Ser Luck was the MP for the Sengkang Central ward.[3][4] Punggol East SMC was intended to become Sengkang East ward while Sengkang Central ward was to be split into Sengkang Central ward and Sengkang North ward.[5]

In the 2020 Singaporean general election, it became the second GRC to be represented by the Workers' Party (WP),[6] and the first GRC to fall directly into the opposition's hands during its first election. Ng Chee Meng who led the People's Action Party (PAP) became the third cabinet minister to lose in a GRC to the opposition, after George Yeo and Lim Hwee Hua in Aljunied GRC in the 2011 general election.

Due to Sengkang as a new GRC, it will be managing it's town council with no other constituencies and named as Sengkang Town Council.
