Samuel Nuamah Donkor is an experienced Ghanaian politician with over thirty-seven years of political service and a businessman. In 1982, appointed by chairman Jerry John Rawlings of the Provisional National Defence Council PNDC with as the as the Deputy regional coordinator for Peoples Defence Committees and Workers Defence Committees (PDCs / WDCs) and additional position as coordinator for New Juaben 1982 to 1992.

He was the first to represent the seat of New Juaben North constituency of the First Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana for the ticket of the progressive alliance National Convention Party NCP/ National Democratic Congress in 1993. He was also appointed the Deputy Minority Leader Of Parliament from 1993 to 1996. In 1995 he was appointed the chairman of the Foreign Affairs committee of Parliament.

In the Jerry John Rawlings administration in 1996 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health of Ghana[1] which he assisted the minister in introducing reforms in the health sector. it was during that period that guinea worm was eradicated from Ghana. Subsequently was he elevated to the position of Minister Of Health in 1998.

In 1999 he was appointed the Ashanti Regional Minister position he held till January, 2001. where the National Democratic Congress handed over government to opposition party New Patriotic Party NPP.

In March 2014 he was appointed the managing director of the intercity State Transport Company limited STC in the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama administration from 2014 to 2016.

Background and Education

Samuel Nuamah Donkor was born on the 5th of September 1958 to Opanin Kwabena Agyekum , Gyaasehene of Asokore- Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana and Madam Abena Akyaamah also from Asokore- Koforidua.

He schooled in Pope John Secondary school for his GCE O level. He was the class perfect for his second and third year in Pope John Secondary School. Having completed his O level studies in 1978, he continued his studies at Koforidua Secondary Technical for his GCE Advanced level certificate in physics, chemistry and biology. There too, he was the assitant house prefect for House four and also the class prefect for the A Level Biology class.

In 1988 to 1989 he was offered a scholarship by the Government of Ghana to study political leadership in Cuba, Havan.

Politics

In 1992 he was elected member of Parliament for New Juaben North Constituency. in January 1993, he was the member of Parliament, (M.P) for  new Juaben North of the first Parliament of the fourth Republic of Ghana

In parliament, he was appointed the deputy minority leader of Parliament from 1983 to 1996. He also served on the Parliamentary committees of defense and interior, finance and foreign affairs.

In 1995 he was appointed the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of Parliament.

In 1996 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health of Ghana in the Jerry John Rawlings administration He assisted the minister in introducing reforms in the health sector. it was during that period that guinea worm[2] was eradicated from Ghana.

In 1998 through hard work he was elevated to the position of the Health Minister of Ghana during his tenure he introduced the popular Addition Duty Hours Allowance (A.D.H.A)[3][4][5] For doctors and health professionals. This allowance served as motivation for doctors and health professionals which reduce incidence of “strike actions” from such professionals.

He developed such good working relations with the Ghana medical Association (G.M.A) the Ghana registered nurses Association (GRNA) and other health professional associations.

He was awarded a certificate of honour by the  Ghana medical Association(GMA) in its annual conference held in Suyani in the Brong  Ahafo Region.

The nurses used to call him “The darling boy of the Nurses”.

In 1999 he was appointed the Ashanti  Regional Minister position he held till January, 2001.

In March 2014 he was appointed the managing director of the state transport company limited. A company in serious distress.The company was on the verge of being sold by the majority shareholders, Social Security and national insurance trust.(SSNIT). Upon assumption office he requested the majority shareholders to shelve the idea of the sale and gave the assurance  to turn the fortunes of the company to profitability.
