The Jalgaon Municipal Corporation is the governing body of the city of Jalgaon in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located in Jalgaon. The municipal corporation consists of democratically elected members, is headed by a mayor and administers the city's infrastructure and public services. It was founded on 22 September 2003. Jalgaon municipal corporation serves an area approximately 68.78 km2 and provides civil services & facilities for above 5 lakhs population.[1] is also known as highest municipal corporation building in Asia.
History
In 1996 Jalgaon corporation decided to build 11 ,0000 affordable houses for BPL families of the city.[2]After releasing the tender 11 Building firms came forward to build Gharkuls (Term use in India for affordable houses for poors under government schemes). Ultimately Khandesh Builders grabbed the contract.[3]The scam exposed when the municipal commissioner of Jalgaon Praveen Gedam field FIR against Suresh Jain , Gulabrao Devkar both sitting ministers of Maharashtra , Chandrakant Sonawane , Architects of the project, corporators and 90 others for providing forged documents , Irregularities , delay and overriding multiple deadlines.[4]After years of court proceedings Dhule District Court sentenced Jain and Devkar 7 and 5 years of prison term respectively.[5][6]Gulabrao Devkar and Jain was booked and sentenced by the Dhule court under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 , India Penal Code Section 420 and many section of corruption , misuse of office , cheating , looting of public money , Submitting forged documents , fraud , Confidence tricks.[7][8]The scam is one of the biggest scam in Maharashtra of sum of 110 Crore rupees.Investigation reveled that Minister Suresh Jain, Gulabrao Devkar , Khandesh Builders , Architects of this project , corporaters did conspirecy to exploit Government of India's then latest Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin then called as Gharkul scheme.Police investigation lead by IPS officer Ishu Sindhu also exposed that Khandesh Builders's owners are friends of Sures Jain and infact Khandesh Builders's head quarter is at Suresh Jain's recidence.The money given by JMC to Khandesh Builders first advanced 15 Cr. then 45 Cr. routed to the firms own by Jain's friend and family members.Builders started work on 5,000 houses and completed just 1500.[9]
