Westmar High School is a public 9-12 school in Lonaconing, Maryland that houses students from the George's Creek area and from the US 220 region in southern Allegany County (the following towns are included in this district: Lonaconing, Westernport, Barton, Midland, McCoole, and Danville/Dawson. It was established in the fall of 1989 as a result of the consolidation of Valley High School and Beall High School. Westmar is located in the old Valley High building. In the fall of 2007, it will consolidate will Beall High School to form Mountain Ridge High School which is currently under construction on the former Mountaineer Stadium at Beall. Westmar's mascot is the wildcat and its school colors are red and gray. School History

Westmar High School was established in the late 1980s as a result of the consolidation of Valley High School (of the George's Creek area) and Bruce High School (of the Westernport and US 220 area). Although Bruce High School was the first High School of its community, Valley High School can trace its roots back to Central High School (of Upper George's Creek) and Barton High School. Before Barton, Central, and Bruce came into being the area was filled with small school houses for each and every neighborhood.

School Future

In 2007, Westmar High School will consolidate with Beall High School to form Mountain Ridge High School which is currently under construction on the former Mountaineer Stadium at Beall in Frostburg. However, the Westmar building will be lived on by the students and faculty of Westmar Middle School which is moving into the building after Westmar High closes.

Yearbook

The Pride is Westmar's yearbook. The yearbook staff are the members of Mr. Chesky's Journalism class. The price of a yearbook is usually between 60 and 100 dollars but it varies depending on the amount of customization you purchase.

Newspaper

Pawprints is Westmar High School's newspaper which comes out once every marking period. The newspaper staff are the members of Mrs. Kalbaugh's Journalism class. The price of one newspaper is one dollar. The price of a one-year subscription is 4 dollars.
