Salviati
Appearance
- The Salviati were a prominent Florentine-Roman family who in the 15th century were bankers to Pope Sixtus IV. They were among those involved in the Pazzi Conspiracy of 1478, a plot to murder the leading members of the Medici family in Florence. One member of the Salviati, the archbishop of Pisa Francesco Salviati, was known to be involved in the plot.
- The painter Francesco Salviati is not part of the Salviati family. He assumed the name after painting frescoes for the Palazzo Salviati.
- A family of Salviati were glass makers and mosaicists in Murano, Venice. They worked on several buildings in England during the 19th century, notably the Albert Memorial and Westminster Cathedral.
- In Galileo's Dialogue, Salviati is the character who speaks for him. He is named after Galileo's friend Filippo Salviati (1582 - 1614).
