Blaise is a French and English personal name and surname (from Greek Βλάσιος, the name of Saint Blaise). It can also be spelt Blaze or Blaize.

From the Latin nomen Blasius, itself from the adjective blaesus, meaning "lisping", "stammering". The Greek Βλάσιος comes from the adjective βλαισός, meaning "bent", "distorted" or "crooked". The correlation between both etymologies is uncertain.
