Error on page. Suggested change. by KirkJTorrance (talk) updated 19:10, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
The following paragraph has incorrect statements and is copied from David Torrance's book, "Salmond Against the Odds". The errors in the hardback, were corrected in the paperback edition of the book.
The paragraph in question is:
Salmond attended the local Linlithgow Academy 1966-1972. He studied at Edinburgh College of Commerce 1972-1973, gaining an HNC in Business Studies,[9] and was then accepted by the University of St Andrews, where he studied Economics and Medieval History. During his time at St Andrews, Salmond lived in St Salvator's Hall. He was elected as Vice-President (Education) of the Students' Representative Council in 1977 and was also nominated to join St Andrews Community Council that year.[10] Salmond graduated with a 2:2 Joint Honours MA in Economics and Medieval History in May 1978.[10][11]
I'd suggest the following to correct the inaccuracies:
Salmond attended Linlithgow Academy 1966-1972. He studied at Edinburgh College of Commerce 1972-1973 [8] and was then accepted by the University of St Andrews, from where he graduated with a joint honours MA in Economics and Medieval History in May 1978. During his time at St Andrews, Salmond lived in St Salvator's Hall. He was elected as Vice-President (Education) of the Students’ Representative Council in 1977 and was also nominated to join St Andrews Community Council that year.[9]

"Not proven" verdict
Scots law is different from many other common-law jurisdiction in having "not proven" as an outcome. One of the charges against him had this verdict. Given this, is it right to say that he has been "cleared" of all charges? It suggests that the jury saw some evidence of guilt. Epa101 (talk) 22:49, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- Legally, not proven is an acquittal. We could change 'cleared' to 'acquitted', but a quick look at other sources show both /either being used, so I see no difference. The next sentence gives the full breakdown of the verdicts, so nothing's hidden. EddieHugh (talk) 14:26, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
2021 events
The current article stops in March 2020, but obviously there has been a huge amount of media coverage about Salmond and the Scottish Parliamentary inquiry. Shouldn't we have some paragraphs on that, or am I missing something? Bondegezou (talk) 12:27, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- There should be, and there should be more on the Sturgeon article, too. There was a legal case, which rightly made people less likely to post, but that's over and things have moved on considerably. EddieHugh (talk) 14:11, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- Should we create Committee on the Scottish Government Handling of Harassment Complaints, have most content there, then summaries for this article, the Sturgeon article and the SNP article? Bondegezou (talk) 16:27, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- If you have the energy for a stand-alone article.... This might fizzle out, or it might be Sturgeon who's out. Summaries in existing articles is probably enough for now. EddieHugh (talk) 18:37, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- I've done an initial couple of paragraphs, but plenty more detail could be included. Others, please develop. Bondegezou (talk) 09:36, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
