Rudolph III, King of Burgundy succeeded his father, Conrad the Peaceful in 993. He died in 1032 and was succeeded by Conrad II, Holy Roman Emperor. From then on, the Kingdom of Burgundy (or the Kingdom of Arles as it became known) was an integral part of the Holy Roman Empire.
