Ethan Payne (born June 20, 1995), best known by his alias Behzinga, is a British YouTuber and member of The Sidemen. He is also well known as a mental health activist.[1] He has been listed in the top 100 influencers in the UK in 2019 by The Sunday Times.[2][3]
Early Life
Ethan was born in Romford and was almost entirely raised by his mother Ruth who battled with cancer in his childhood.[4] He was known for being disruptive in school and began gaming as an escape which led to him growing a following.[4]
Career
Behzinga joined YouTube group The Sidemen after playing with them on Grand Theft Auto.[5] His early content was predominantly based around gaming and football challenges including popular franchises such as FIFA.[5] He has since appeared on shows such as MOTDx.[6]
In 2020 he starred in and helped produce a YouTube Originals show called 'How to be a Behzinga' about his struggle with depression and his path towards running a marathon to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.[7] After rapid weightloss in 2019 in which he lost 36kg, he revealed that he had before that been suffering from Alcoholism and had attempted suicide.[8] He revealed that support from fellow members of The Sidemen had helped him get through.[9]
He described "living with a few YouTubers and I'd just sit in my office and drink away, just wasting away the evenings."[1] He has also talked about the importance of sharing feelings and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness in men.[10]
In 2021 he revealed the difficulties of producing content with COVID-19 restrictions in place.[11]
