Sabrina's Secret Life (French: Le Secret de Sabrina) is a 2003 French-American animated television series based on the Archie Comics character Sabrina, the Teenage Witch co-produced by DIC Entertainment Corporation and Les Studios Tex SARL. It originally aired in syndication on the DIC Kids Network block in 2003 as a sequel series to Sabrina: The Animated Series (and Sabrina: Friends Forever).[2]

Overview

In this series, Sabrina Spellman is fourteen years old (two years older than she was Sabrina: The Animated Series and one year older since the Friends Forever movie, but still younger than usually portrayed in the comics) attending Greendale High School.[3] Unlike Sabrina the animated series, This show features lots of changes. Chloe and her family have moved away, Gem Stone attends a private school far away from Greendale, and Uncle Quigley, Pi and the Spooky jar have mysteriously vanished. Sabrina's new best friend is a girl named Maritza; additionally, Sabrina still has a crush on her friend Harvey.

Although Sabrina's Secret Life is set during her high school years, Sabrina's magic is considerably less strong than it was in the original series. Unlike the previous series, where Sabrina made magic with a wave of her hand and an incantation, here she uses a wand to cast spells. Most of the original voice cast did not return for this series.

Characters

  • Sabrina Spellman: She is currently a fourteen-year-old freshman student at Greendale High and had grown and matured since Sabrina: The Animated Series ended. She secretly, has her courses of magic and witchcraft with Cassandra. Her character and personality are still the same, and she still has her romantic crush on Harvey. She also wears a different midriff dress than the previous series, and is voiced by Britt McKillip, reprising her role from Friends Forever.
  • Salem Saberhagen: He did not change in this series, as he still helps Sabrina with her problems. He has also taken over Uncle Quigley's role as the voice of reason for Sabrina. He is voiced by Maurice LaMarche.
  • Hilda Spellman and Zelda Spellman: Sabrina's paternal aunts who help their niece with her increasingly powerful magical abilities and proper uses of magic.
  • Harvey Kinkle: He is portrayed as more grown up, attractive, athletic and smarter but, at the same time, much ditzier than in the original series. He has the same romantic crush on Sabrina and still does not know her magical and mystical secret. He is voiced by Michael Heyward.
  • Cassandra: She's Enchantra's niece and Sabrina's best friend-turned-enemy. She goes with Sabrina at the same witchcraft courses. In the beginning, she served as Gem Stone's replacement, but she gets kinder progressively. In the end, she and Sabrina become best friends again. She is voiced by Tifanie Christun.
  • Maritza: She's Sabrina's new best friend, and Chloe's replacement. She's very similar to Chloe physically and emotionally but, unlike her, she does not know that Sabrina is a witch. She is voiced by Vanesa Tomasino.
  • Queen Enchantra: She is portrayed much warmer, friendlier, nicer and kinder than she was in Sabrina: The Animated Series.
  • Ms. Magrooney: She is Sabrina's teacher in both the Human World and The Netherworld.
  • Mr. Snipe: He is Sabrina's teacher in both the Human World and The Netherworld same as Ms. Magrooney.

19"Hot Item"Jean ChalopinJanuary 12, 2004 (2004-01-12)

Sabrina and Cassandra take a trip to the Netherworld with Ms. Magrooney to learn about the history of magical creatures. While there, Cassandra gets hit with chocolate chip cookies by Alchemus Al for almost taking his gold. He accidentally mistook her for a gold-snatching beast. Sabrina takes an egg home that she believes to be a rock to add to her collection, even though Ms. Magrooney gave strict orders not to touch anything or take anything home as a souvenir. During the night the egg hatches, and a dragon pops out.

Sabrina names him Baby D. and is reluctant to return him back to his mother; but decides to keep him due to his cuteness. The dragon is the beast that Alchemus Al spoke about that was attracted to shiny objects. It steals Salem's rhinestone dress-collar, Sabrina's watch and Cassandra's expensive necklace. Since Maritza had wanted the necklace before Cassandra did in the store, she blames her for the theft. Sabrina finds out that Baby D. is the culprit and tries to return him back to his home-town, but the spell fails. Alchemus Al appears and they try to trap Baby D. and return him to his mother. They try to distract him with cookies but it does not work, since Baby D. has "diamond-eye"; which means he cannot see the cookies, only the diamonds. They then finally manage to return him to his mother.
20"What's In a Name?"Jean ChalopinJanuary 13, 2004 (2004-01-13)

Sabrina and Cassandra are on a mission to find the rarest herb known to witches: "Salviar Mascaria"; after Sabrina accidentally spills all of it in her potion; and that causes it to explode, drowning her, Cassandra, and Mr. Snipe in the remainders of the potion. When they get to the Netherworld, Cassandra (accompanied with Mavista) and Sabrina (accompanied with Salem) compete to find it first; but they hold each other back at the start: Cassandra makes Sabrina's legs rooted to the ground; and Sabrina turns Cassandra into a living doll. Cassandra then manages to find the herb, but it is a trap, and she and Mavista get eaten by a dragon. After they manage to get out of the dragon, they come face-to-face with Sabrina and Salem, who have also managed to find the herb. Sabrina and Cassandra both start casting rapid spells at each other, that causes Salem and Mavista to turn into stuffed animals. They then get help from a familiar tree that they had saved before, and with his advice manage to follow the right path, until they get lost. They then call a truce just as Salem and Mavista turn back into real animals; who also call a truce between each other.

Along the way they both try to repair "The Forgotten Bridge"; but Sabrina's and Cassandra's spell backfires, and a monster made of rock chases after them, crushing the herb along the way. They then run into the "Grey Area", and Sabrina tries to find a way out; until they find a beautiful kingdom ran by a Cyclops who has an entire field filled with "Salviar Mascaria". Cassandra and Salem take some, planning to use it to become rich (Cassandra) and take over the world (Salem). The Cyclops appears and traps them in a cage, as he is planning to eat them. Sabrina and Cyclops learn their lesson; after his feelings got hurt when Cassandra called him names. They then return to Mr. Snipe within the two-hour curfew with the "Salviar Mascaria".

Sabrina joins Harvey's band (which they call "Sabrina and the Harvtones), and Cassandra forms a band with Tiffany and Margaux. After promising Sabrina she would not use magic to cheat, she asks her Aunt Enchantra to make her band good for her. When Sabrina hears a beautiful singing voice in the school, she thinks it is Cassandra and gets even with her by casting a spell that makes her band popular when she sings the spell. When Sabrina gets a 'D' in her assignment, and Cassandra a 'D-', Mr. Snipe bribes Cassandra with a good grade in return for a cheque.

At the "Teen Talent Quest", Sabrina sings with her band, and Cassandra unleashes her potion that was given to her by Aunt Enchantra, at the same time. The potion gets out of control when everybody starts fighting, and the judges choose the winner based on the highest bidder. Cassandra sets out to win by getting her cheque-book ready, but then they hear Maritza sing and fix the spell together. It is then that Sabrina notices that it was Maritza singing in the school and not Cassandra. Maritza becomes the winner of "Teen Talent Quest", and becomes Harvey's date to the "backward dance".
22"Time Flies"Jean ChalopinJanuary 20, 2004 (2004-01-20)

Sabrina promises to go to the "Plain Brain" concert with Maritza, which is at the same time Sabrina promised to go to the "Netherworld Hyper Spa" with her aunts. When she cancels out on the concert, and wishes she could go to both the concert and the spa, a green worm (by the name of Wiggles) pops out of the crystal ball her aunts gave to her. He presents her with a magic gold dial and a manual, that allows her to travel back in time whenever she wants. She fails to read the manual, and uses it instantaneously to go back to the day Maritza asks her to go to the concert with her. They go to the concert twice, and then Sabrina goes with her aunts to the spa, twice.

After overusing the watch a few times, Sabrina misses the concert and sleeps through the weekend. She begins to notice strange things happening when she (and the watch) age rapidly, Harvey is Maritza's boyfriend, and they have no idea who she is. To make matters worse, the watch breaks. When Hilda calls in Wiggles, he too is shocked at Sabrina's state, and explains the reason why it happened: she redid the same events more than once. After filling in the refund forms for the watch, Sabrina, Hilda and Zelda go to a place in the Netherworld, where Sabrina learns her lesson and goes back to the time (as a teenager) when Maritza asked her to the concert.
23"Here's Looking At You"Jean ChalopinJanuary 26, 2004 (2004-01-26)

After promising Maritza she would help her with her class volcano, Sabrina gets late for Witch School, where she gets introduced to a guest speaker in a magic mirror, that favourites Sabrina because she is a half-witch. Meanwhile, Maritza fails her volcano after the vinegar splatters in her face. On her way out from the class, the remains of the top of the volcano spill on Cassandra's shirt, who happened to be walking with Sabrina when she bumped into the volcano. Sabrina runs after Maritza, who cancels their friendship, when she reminds Sabrina that she forgot to help her. Later on in the day, when Sabrina and Cassandra return to Witch School, Cassandra falls in through a portal in the magic mirror, after Sabrina cast a spell on her for insulting her in front of the mirror. Sabrina gets pulled into the portal with Cassandra, where they reappear in a modified version of their class. Mr. Snipe is the principal, and he introduces them to a mortal guest speaker who will lecture them on the world of magic.

That is when Cassandra realizes that Sabrina is half mortal (proved when her spell completely fails). When they exit the classroom, everybody (except for themselves), are witches. Maritza takes Cassandra's position: being the best witch in the school, and hanging around with Tiffany and Margaux. They make fun of Cassandra, and turn her into an inflatable balloon. Sabrina becomes Maritza's friend again, after they join their broken-heart pendants together. They then go to find Cassandra who got turned into a frog by Tiffany and Margaux after she asked for their help. Once Maritza turns Cassandra back, they go through the magic mirror into the real world; where Sabrina reconciles their friendship.

After Salem sees "Talk Talk" in the newspaper, Sabrina turns him into a handsome young witch (only that he does not have any powers, since it was only a temporary shapeshifting spell used) as a disguise; since he wishes to be undercover. Talk Talk has appeared in the mortal world, and is after Salem, as he got wrongfully accused of burning Queen Enchantra's dress seventy-five years ago. Salem adopts the alias "Cat", and attends school with Sabrina, where he gains admiration and popularity among the other students. Talk Talk soon appears, where he figures out the shape-shifting spell Sabrina used on Salem. As a result, he too uses the same spell, and roams around the school looking for Salem. Sabrina plans on getting him into detention. She believes a new student to be Talk Talk (Rex), and triggers off the fire alarm, making it look like "Talk Talk" set it off. He is let off, but then the real Talk Talk appears and is after Rex, whom he believes to be Salem. They then go on a mission to save Rex, who has been taken by Talk Talk. Salem acts as Sabrina's slave, in order to allow him to be free from Talk Talk, it works and Sabrina confesses her acts to Mr. Snipe and Rex. As a punishment she has detention.

Sabrina saves her and blames Cassandra, who also happened to be littering. She goes away from the event with Olivia to watch Hay McGoblin perform his skating event in the Netherworld. Hay passes around cans of toxic waste, which causes all of the witches in the Netherworld to turn into stone. This in turn leads all the magic in the Netherworld to disappear: Olivia's plan to take over the Netherworld. Sabrina and Maritza (who believes it to be a dream) go to the Netherworld to help restore it and destroy Hay and Olivia. The toxic waste cans cripple Sabrina's magic, but they finally succeed when Hay gives in, and Olivia is defeated by a spell Sabrina cast which turns her into stone.
