Kaatelal & Sons is an Indian comedy television series that premiered on Sony SAB on 16 November 2020. It was produced by Contiloe Pictures Private Ltd, and stars Megha Chakraborty, Jiya Shankar, Ashok Lokhande and Paras Arora.[1]

Plot

The story focuses on Dharampal's twin daughters, Garima and Susheela, who go against all odds to fight the patriarchal society and run Kaatelal and Sons, their ancestral salon.

Jagat Seth, who wants to own all the shops of Haathi Bazaar where Kaatelal & Sons are found, has a dispute with Dharampal and decides to avenge him. Thus, Dharampal is gravely injured in an accident plotted by Jagat, fracturing his right hand. This is where the life-journey of Dharampal's twin daughters Garima and Susheela starts. They disguise themselves as Gunnu & Sattu, orphan twin boys, (because of the patriarchal society and their father not accepting the fact that girls are allowed to work). They receive help from their cousin brother Puttu and start running the salon of their ancestors, Kaatelal & Sons.

Meanwhile, Garima falls for Vikram, Jagat's younger brother, and Dr Pramod, who is Dharampal's orthopedist, falls for Susheela. Pramod learns Gunnu and Sattu's reality and encourages and supports them. Jagat's spy steals ₹1.5 Lakh from the Ruhail house and frames Sattu. Garima and Susheela find their money in 24 hours with the help of Vikram and Pramod but can't catch the thief as Jagat managed to save him. The police arrive with the money. Sattu comes and breaks all ties with the family. Now Vikram, on Jagat's orders, deceptively makes Dharampal sign a document that says that he is giving away Kaatelal and Sons to Jagat. Garima comes to know this and insults him in the Haathi Bazaar. She cuts all ties with Vikram and so does the Bazaar.

Meanwhile, Garima realizes her dream to become a hairdresser and Kusum, their mother finds out the truth about Gunnu and Sattu and starts supporting them secretly. Dharampal makes Gunnu Sattu 10% partner in Kaatelal. Susheela acts as Goddess Durga at night and tells her father that he should respect females or she would be angry. So he allows ladies in Kaatelal and Sons.

Later Jagat is threatened by his boss that he has been removed from his job because he is unable to destroy Haathi Bazaar. He becomes furious and decides to set Kaatelal & Sons and the whole Haathi Market on fire, not knowing that Garima and Susheela are inside. They fight with him and save Kaatelal & Sons and the whole Haathi Bazaar from him again. Later Inspector Agni Rajawat asks them to narrate the full story in the police station. He comes to know everything and assures them that Jagat has done a crime and he can be sent to jail only if the eyewitnesses are presented in the court. Garima and Susheela agree but become anxious to know that their father Dharampal and the whole Haathi market will be there, While protecting Haathi Bazaar, Garima's wig slips down without realizing that Jagat is seeing everything . When they return to home Jagat calls Garima, tells her that he was the actual mastermind behind Dharampal's accident. Garima record's everything in her phone and then he blackmails that he will reveal Gunnu -Sattu's reality in front of everyone if they will come tomorrow in the court for the hearing. Both the girls become emotional and decide to let it happen because sending Jagat to jail was even important for them instead of Gunnu-Sattu's reality. Jagat sends his goons to stop Garima - Susheela from entering the court, they still succeed and they reveal Jagat Seth and Gunnu-Sattu's reality to everyone. Judge decides to send Jagat to jail for 2 years. Impressed by the sisters story, Inspector Agni Rajawat develops a crush on Garima. Dharampal again bans girls in his salon and takes away their scissors in the name of Guru dakshina and tries to separate the twins by arranging Susheela and Pramod's wedding as soon as possible. However, the girls doesn't loose hope. Meanwhile, Agni accidently assumes that Pramod and Garima are getting married and gets furious which is truly wrong.

  • Megha Chakraborty[2] as Garima Kaatelal Ruhail / Gunnu. She is Dharampal and Kusum's elder daughter and Susheela's elder twin (the witty and calm one among the two). She is always quick to answer her father's patriarchal demands and also his tests using her wits; She has inherited Dharampal's skills to artfully use scissors on hair; She is also a good chef like her mother and the topper of Home economics department in her college; She has always dreamt of getting married and starts crushing on Vikram. She disguised herself as Gunnu to run her father's shop along with Susheela as Sattu. Agni's love interest. She realised that she dreams of becoming a hairdresser (2020-present)
  • Jiya Shankar[3] as Susheela Kaatelal Ruhail (Su-Shi-La), Susila / Sattu ; Dharampal and Kusum's younger daughter and Garima's younger twin; the short-tempered among the twins, she has inherited Dharampal's physical strength and impulsive nature and also practices boxing using his gloves. She often beats up men who talk against her father or look down upon women. Unlike Garima, she wants to make her own identity before marriage. She also has a crush on Randeep Hooda; she disguised herself as Sattu to run her father's shop along with Garima as Gunnu. She is Dr. Pramod's love interest. She loves Dr .   • Ashok Lokhande[4] as Dharampal Kaatelal Ruhail; a skilled barber and the head of the Kaatelal family; who has misogynist and patriarchal overviews; He thinks it is only sons who deserve to continue their father's legacy, even when daughters have the potential and also feels it a shame to get the help of his daughters to run his family ahead. He hates Vikram and Minnie for their modern mentality.(2020-present)
  • Sachin Chaudhary (child actor) as Ghanshyam (Puttu) Kaatelal Ruhail; Shishupal and Chanchal's 15-year-old son; Dharampal's nephew and Garima-Susheela's younger cousin brother; a soft–hearted and naïve young boy; He loves his sisters a lot. Being the only male heir of the family after Dharampal and Shishupal, he is often burdened with family's responsibilities and the salon-business which he is not interested in; However, he always helps his sisters to go forward in their plans, though he knows it is against Dharampal. He successfully runs a channel called Greatest of all time (GOAT) Puttu Kitkot channel which has two thousand followers, which is an added advantage for Puttu to help his sisters in their plans.(2020-present)
  • Paras Arora as Dr. Pramod Chautala (Chota Haddi); A London–graduate orthopedist and falls for Susheela in their very first encounter ; Aware of Gunnu-Sattu's real identity, he helps them to continue their disguise ; He is Haddi Babu/Dr. Jai Chautala and Chief Medical Officer Meenakshi's son.   • Sahil Phull as Station House Officer (S.H.O) Agni Rajawat ,after knowing Gunnu-Sattu's truth he started crushing on Garima. He is helping Garima-Susheela to open their Own Salon.

  • Ankit Mohan as Vikram; Jagat Seth's (he is not his biological or step brother, he just lovingly calls him) brother and Garima's old love interest ; He was often drawn towards Garima's male-counterpart Gunnu without realizing, it is Garima in disguise. At first, he disliked Garima thinking her to be just like her father; however, later he realizes her truth. Unaware of his brother's evil intentions he blindly follows him which leads Garima and everyone of Haathi Bazaar to boycott Vikram, once his wrongdoings and his secret connection with Jagat was revealed (2020–2021) [5]
  • Karuna Verma as Chief Medical Officer Meenakshi aka Minnie Chautala , Dr. Pramod/Chhota Haddi's mother and Dr. Jai Chautala /Haddi Babu's wife. She is a very modern women and empowers Garima - Susheela in their plans , Dharampal hates her because of her modern mentality. She wants Susheela as her daughter-in-law.(2020-present)

Casting

Jiya Shankar and Megha Chakraborty were cast to play Garima and Susheela. Ankit Mohan and Paras Arora were cast opposite Chakraborty and Shankar. In February 2021, Ankit Mohan quit the series. In March 2021, Sahil Phull was cast to play Agni opposite Megha Chakraborty.[6]

Development

The series was announced by Contiloe Pictures Private Ltd and was confirmed in September 2020 by Sony SAB. The first promo of the series was released on 6 November 2020.[7]
