Santhwanam is an Indian Malayalam-language TV drama airing on Asianet and streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The series is a remake of the Tamil series Pandian Stores. .

Plot

Krishnan and Lakshmi have four sons and run a grocery store, Krishna Stores, in a town named Ambalathara. Their world crumbles when Lakshmi's brother Shankaran forces Krishnan into financial difficulty, causing Krishnan to kill himself. Balakrishnan, the eldest son, marries Devi. She helps to look after his ailing mother and his brothers (Hari, Shiva, and Kannan) as if they were her own kids. Devi is often criticized by her relatives for not having children, but her brothers-in-law do not let it affect her.

Shankaran pressures Lakshmi to agree to an arranged marriage between his daughter, Anju, and her son, Hari. However, Hari opposes this because he is in love with his college friend Appu. Devi asks Balan to convince Appu to leave Hari, but he refuses. Devi secretly visits Appu's father Thampi, a Powerful Landlord, who gets offended and beats her; this transgression causes Hari to accept the marriage proposal. Thampi decides to kill Hari but his plan falls apart. Appu creates a scene in the marriage hall and the wedding is cancelled due to Hari's feelings and Anju's suspicions of an affair, leaving the relationships between the two families strained.

To save the family's reputation, Devi decides that Shiva should marry Anju. Eventually, Hari marries Appu and Shiva marries Anju, but Devi is criticized by Anju's mother, Lakshmi, and Anju for what is seen as a poor match. The couple eventually does come to love each other, though they have difficulty expressing it. Meanwhile, Appu and Hari fight over money until Appu adjusts to the lifestyle at Santhwanam. Anju and Shiva get an invitation from Anju's family. Shiva, thinking of Anju's happiness, wears pants and a shirt that Hari bought for him last night. But Jayanthi and Savitri humiliate Shivan for wearing pants and shirt and also pours sambar onto Shiva's hand. Anju is enraged and cuts all ties with her family, saying that she will never step back into this house.

Thampi sees Kannan escorting Appu's younger sister, Amritha or "Ammu". Suspecting that they are lovers, Thampi assaults him. Kannan tells his brothers about this, who confront Thampi and have a physical altercation. Appu worries about her father. Enraged, Thampi stops sending goods to Krishna Stores. As a result, there occurs a rapid shortage of goods at the shop. However, the brothers find a way to manage, and slowly, everything starts to become normal.

Shiva and Anjali get ready to go to a relative's wedding. On their way back home, they get into an accident when someone hits their bike. Shiva and Anjali tell Balan and Hari that the accident was intentional. Balan asks Hari to ask around about the accident before calling Sethu and informing him about the accident. Jayanthi, who was standing near Sethu, hears all this and calls Savitri and Shankaran to inform them. They rush to Santhwanam house and create a scene. Savitri blames Shiva for the accident saying that since they did not give enough dowry he pushed Anjali intentionally. Hari discovers that the man that hit Shiva and Anjali's bike was one of Thampi's men, Mahendran. Hari comes back home and discusses this with his brothers secretly. But Jayanthi, who overhears their conversations, blames Appu for the accident and exposes the truth to the whole family. Lakshmi is enraged by this and angrily orders Appu to get out of the house. Appu is heartbroken and the next morning she goes missing from the house. Hari is deeply worried about her. Balan, Hari, Shiva, and Kannan searches for Appu everywhere. Finally, Balan and Hari find her in Amaravathy and bring her back. Balan scolds Appu for leaving Santhwanam house without informing anyone and for pleading with Thampi for his forgiveness. Appu replies that she went away not because of the last night's incidents but because she wanted to question her father about what he did and warn him to not hurt the family again. The same night that Hari and Appu get into an argument, Anjali is helping Shiva dress his wounds.

The next day, Appu has a heart-to-heart talk with Devi and Anjali. Meanwhile, Balan was shocked to learn Hari had gone after Thampi's goons and confronts Hari about it. Shankaran meets Anjali and speaks highly about Shiva. On the other hand, Devi and Balan have quality time by talking about Shiva's changed behavior towards Anjali. At the same time, Shiva helps Anjali when she gets wounded. They share a moment and grow closer to each other. When Shiva and Anjali decide to go to the hospital, they spend some more quality time together. Shankaran feels elated by spotting them together. Later, Anjali runs into her friend Krishna at the hospital.

The Santhwanam brothers get a shock when Thampi begins work on hypermarket. Appu's birthday arrives and she expects a gift from Hari, reminiscing on the gifts he gave her on her past birthdays. Shiva helps Anjali as she struggles with a headache but gives her the wrong medicine. Balan surprises Shiva by gifting him a mobile phone. Shiva enquires about Anjali's health and starts worrying. Later, Appu gets emotional when Hari forgets her birthday. Anjali saw her cry and asked if everything was alright. Appu revealed hat it was her birthday. Anjali secretly phones Hari and informed Appu's birthday. Hari was shocked when she said about her birthday. He said that he literally forgot her birthday. When he cuts the call, he spread the news to everyone in Santhwanam (except Appu for a surprise). They all surprise Appu and she was happy not because of the birthday but Hari remembering her birthday.

After the party Hari tells Appu that she should be thankful to Anju for reminding him of his birthday. This makes Appu angry and she starts fighting with Anjali for calling Hari. At the same time Shiva and Anju spent some quality time and they reveal each others birthday dates. The very next day Appu apologizes to Anju, but Anju denies it and also she yells at Hari. Aparna wishes to go for a honeymoon. Meanwhile Anjali asks Shiva to come for her college reunion. At first Shiva denies it, but later Balan asks him to go. on the day of reunion Anjali puts forth some conditions which were not acceptable for Shiva and he backs out from the plan. This makes Balan angry and he scolds Shiva. After that Anjali tells Balan that it was because of her unacceptable conditions Shiva backed out from the plan. Eventually, Aparna ends up going with the whole family except Balan and his mother. During this time, Shiva and Anjali grow closer. At home, Savitri and Shankaran take care of Balan's mother and the business respectively. But Savitri forgets to give medicine for Lakshmi (Balan's mother). Though she becomes unconscious Balan and Shankaran rush her to the hospital and is saved. Meanwhile, Shiva, Anjali, Aparna, Hari, Sridevi and Kannan return.

• Chippy Renjith as Sreedevi Balakrishnan (a.k.a. "Devi")

  Devi is Sethu's sister and Balan's wife. She is Hari, Shiva, and Kannan's sister-in-law, which makes her Lakshmi's eldest daughter-in-law. She is characterised as a sweet, talented. Viewers see her as a very lovable and sacrificial person who takes care of her in-laws. She sometimes helps Balan out at Krishna Stores.

• Rajeev Parameshwar as Balakrishnan (a.k.a. "Balan")

  Balan is the eldest son of Lakshmi and Krishnan, and the elder brother of Hari, Shiva, Kannan. He is the current head of the Santhwanam Family and the main operator of Krishna Stores. He is Devi's husband, and always expresses his regret that Devi doesn't bear children because of him.

• Girija Preman as Lakshmi

  Lakshmi is Shankaran's sister. She is also Krishnan's widow and is the mother of Balan, Hari, Siva, and Kannan. She is the mother-in-law of Devi, Appu, and Anjali. She is also Anjali's aunt. She hates Savitri, her sister-in-law, and Jayanthi, Savitri's niece. She hated Devi for a few days after her marriage to Balan; she also briefly hated Appu for causing a scene in the marriage hall. She is a paralyzed woman.

• Sajin TP as Shivaramakrishnan (a.k.a. "Shiva")

  Shiva is the third son of Lakshmi and Krishnan, as well as Anju's husband. He is a meritorious student. Due to their family's circumstances, he had studied until matriculation. He always has a local dressing style and does not like to wear formal clothes. Like his mother, he hates Savitri and Jayanthi. He is shown to have a better memory than his other brothers.He love Anjali but is struggling to express it.

• Dr. Gopika Anil as Anjali Shivaramakrishnan (a.k.a. "Anju")

  Anju is the daughter of Shankaran and Savitri, as well as Shiva's wife. She loves Shiva but struggles to express it. She is a B.Com graduate. She has always dreamt of becoming a member of Santhwanam Family.

• Girish Nambiar as Harikrishnan (a.k.a. "Hari")

  Hari is the second oldest son of Lakshmi and Krishnan, and Appu's husband. He is an MBA Graduate. He is shown to support the Santhwanam family more than his wife Aparna in all circumstances.

• Raksha Raj as Aparna Harikrishnan (a.k.a. "Appu")

  Appu is Hari's wife and Thampi's daughter. She is also a Master's degree holder. She is shown to love her father and her husband more than her life. After some difficulty, she has adjusted to the lifestyle of the Santhwanam family.

• Achu Sugandh as Muralikrishnan (a.k.a. "Kannan")

  Kannan is the youngest son of Lakshmi and Krishnan. He is a college student. He is talkative and doted upon by the Santhwanam family. His most favorite brother is Shiva.

  Sethu's wife, Devi's sister-in-law, Subhadra's daughter-in-law, Savithri's niece, Indira, and Savithri's brother's daughter. She hates Devi.

• Kailas Nath as Narayana Pillai (a.k.a Pilla)

  Friend of Krishnan and staff of Krishna Stores. He hails from Nagercoil. The Krishna brothers consider him a fatherlike figure and a member of the Santhwanam family.

• Bijesh Avanoor as Sethu

  Devi's brother, Jayanthi's husband, Balan's close friend, and Subhadra's son. He owns an event management company.

• Geetha Nair as Subhadra

  Sethu and Devi's mother; Jayanthi and Balan's mother-in-law. She is Lakshmi's closest friend.

• Rohit as Amaravathiyil Rajasekharan Thampi

  Appu's father. He is a Rich Landlord, who lives at his mansion residence "Amaravathy." He owns a lot of land and is only obedient to his sister, Rajeshwari.

• Zeenath as Rajasekharan Rajeshwari

  Thampi's sister, Appu's aunt, and Somasekharan MLA's wife. She lives in Wayanad and comes to visit Thampi sometimes.

• Dr. Nita as Ambika Thampi

  Thampi's wife, mother of Appu and Ammu, mother-in-law of Hari.
