An R62A on the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line

R62A is a series of New York City Subway cars, built by Bombardier in Montreal, Quebec, with final assembly done in Barre, Vermont. The R62A series was a continuation of the R62 order. These 825 cars were built between 1984 and 1987 and entered service between 1985 and 1988. They replaced the R17/21/22 cars, which were retired by early 1988.

The R62A series are numbered 1651-2475. Numbers 1901-2155 are single cars and run on the 7 service to make 11-car trains. Some 1900-series cars run on the 42 Street Shuttle. All other cars are in 5-car sets.

R62A cars currently run on the 1 (based at the 240 Street Yard in the Bronx), 7 service (based at Corona Yard in Queens), and 42nd Street Shuttle (based at Livonia Yard, Brooklyn). They also occasionally appear on the 3, which also has Livonia Yard as its home, and 4. [1]

Car 1909 was wrecked in 1996 and removed from the property in 2001.

Service History

In 1984 R62As were being deliver. Its first 30 Day Test run ran on the 1 Line. It wasn't so long when the R62As was taken out of service due to problems. After that it made a Test run on the 4 Line. Then the Test ran on the 2 line. Between April 14, 1985 and April 21, 1985 The test ran on the 5 and 7 lines. When it was completed it ran on its first service on the 1 Line on May 29, 1985. And in the mid 1987 more newer cars were delivered on the S, 3 and 6 Lines. In 1996 the Template:NYCS 5 borrowed 10 R62A sets from the Template:NYCS 6 Line.
