Tucker Max
Tucker Tibor Max (b. 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an author and the creator of Tuckermax.com, which features explicit stories about his excessive drinking and sexual encounters and a heavily-moderated messageboard. Max lives in the Flatiron District of Manhattan in New York, New York. Max runs Rudius Media, an upstart Internet publishing company kept above water solely by Max's messageboard audience. [1]
Max grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law, Letters and Society from University of Chicago. He graduated with a J.D. from Duke University School of Law. [2] While at Duke, he posted a "date application" online and later transferred it to his eponymous domain name. The growing popularity of his site led to a June 2003 appearance in "Sex2K", an episode of MTV's True Life[3] as well as a May 2003 lawsuit filed by ex-girlfriend Katy Johnson claiming the sordid details of their relationship posted at his site[4] were an invasion of her privacy. A judge ordered Max to remove the story from his site,[5] but the case was dismissed following substantial legal wrangling that included an amicus curiae brief by the American Civil Liberties Union.[6]
Max penned The Definitive Book of Pick-Up Lines (2001) and Belligerence and Debauchery: The Tucker Max Stories (2003) and self-published them. In January 2006, Citadel Press released Max's paperback, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell[7] and it earned a place on the New York Times Bestseller supplemental list. Shortly thereafter, Max and the book were featured in a New York Times Sunday Style article on the fratire genre. [8]
In 2006, a followup book, Assholes Finish First was announced for January 2008 publication by Simon Spotlight. Max also signed a deal with Comedy Central to write a sitcom pilot script mixing his Web stories and the day-to-day of Max and his friends.[9][10]
