- Comment: non-notable by the current standards for secondary schools. (that's not the same as what I think ought to be our standards, but that's besides the point. If I passed it, it would just get deleted at AfD.) DGG ( talk ) 06:23, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: This draft has a disambiguated title. If this draft is accepted, an entry will need to be added to the disambiguation page for the primary name. The disambiguation page for the primary name is Central High School. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:33, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Central High School is a public high school in Lowndes County, Alabama at 145 Main Street in Hayneville, Alabama. Lions are the school mascot and green and yellow the school colors.[1]
The school has about 260 students, the vast majority African American. Students are mostly from low income families.[2]
Central High School started out as a segregated school for Black students. Originally called the Lowndes County Training School, the school was renamed as Central High School at the instigation of [[Catherine Coleman Flowers[edit]]] during the Civil Rights movement, dropping the name of Lowndes, a confederate slave owner.[3]
Notable alumni of the school include the Negro League and Major League Baseball player Billy Parker,[4], civil rights activist Catherine Coleman Flowers,[3], and professional basketball player Ben Wallace.[5]
