The Premier League Hall of Fame aims to honour players who have shown exceptional skill at association football, and have had a significant influence on the Premier League. Founded in 2021, it is an online-only entity, as opposed to the English Football Hall of Fame, which has a physical location in Manchester. The Hall inducts between four and six new individuals each year, with each induction to be broadcast nationally on Sky Sports.

For a player to be eligible on the ballot for Hall of Fame honours, he must be fully retired before the start of the rewarding season.[1] If a player retired for a short period, then his case and eligibility are reviewed on an individual basis. As part of the inaugural class of 2021, two players were inducted to the Hall - Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry - with six more set to be inducted based on the results of a public opinion poll.[2]

Requirements

Players must have retired before the start of the awarding season and are only judged on their domestic performances in the Premier League and no other competitions considered. Players must have made 250 appearances or if not satisfy one of the following:[3]

Inaugural nominees

The first two inductees were originally to be announced in March 2020,[9] but the announcement was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[10][11] In 2021, along with the two inaugural inductees, a fan vote determined additional inductees; the inaugural nominees were:[12] Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs was neither inducted or named on the shortlist due to ongoing issues in his personal life and a pending court case, with Henry inducted in his place.[13]
