Question regarding retroactively adding edit summaries.

Hi there, I recently added {{Clear}} to Family Guy (season 17) where I accidentally clicked "Publish changes" before writing an edit summary. Help:Edit summary says that the times where I don't put edit summaries are tracked, and even though this probably won't affect me since I'm definitely not becoming an admin any time soon, I'd prefer having a clean record (even though it doesn't/hasn't show(ed) up on [1]), so I was wondering if there was a way to add one retroactively by, for example, reverting the edit and then doing it again with an edit summary or something. Thanks in advance! davidxu160801 (talk) 01:20, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidxu160801: No, there's no way to retroactively add an edit summary. Don't worry about it though, no one will mind as long as you continue to regularly use edit summaries. If you make a substantial change to a page and forget to include one, you can follow up with a dummy edit to explain your change. DanCherek (talk) 01:15, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Davidxu160801: In your preferences you might like to tick the option "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". -- John of Reading (talk) 06:48, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A Very Large Blanking, which shouldn't have been −12,228‎ KB

Good Day, I came across this Large Blanking and I believe the deleted sections though unnecessarily large, don't deserve to be deleted, rather truncated. and cited. https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=The_Story_of_an_Hour&action=history, thank you. STC1 (talk) 02:05, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - I have reverted the blanking and instead added Template:Overly detailed. -Elmer Clark (talk) 05:26, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

STC1 you could have reverted this yourself see Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. The IP editor has drawn attention to an issue with the article, so you could also remove some of the excess detail. TSventon (talk) 11:27, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Sources

Let's say if a company says on their own web page "We were founded in 1920", are we allowed to cite that? Or is that source a COI? Thank you! --Abillionradios (talk) 02:26, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Abillionradios. For the sake of discussion, let's assume that the company is notable and has a good reputation, based on significant coverage in reliable sources, and those sources go back decades. Then, the company itself is is an acceptable source for its founding date. On the other hand, let's assume that the company is described in reliable sources as a "start-up" and has a reputation for not telling the truth to customers and investors. In that case, an independent, reliable source would be required. It is a matter of editorial judgment. Good judgment. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:44, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Citing a primary source is ok but it does not improve an article's notability. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 17:50, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Adamant Editor won't allow Edits.

Good Day, I would like to bring to your attention this Wikipage: I.C. Colony. The Page has ZERO citation / references, The entire write up reeks of WP:PROMO / WP:SOAP. The Editors refuse to allow any changes to the page(all edits are reverted), even Templates like Template:Citation Needed & Template:POV statement are deleted. This is not what wikipedia is about. The Article is tagged TEMPLATE:Unreferenced which means any uncited claim can and should be challenged / removed. But, sadly that's not what is being allowed to happen. STC1 (talk) 06:47, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have a feeling that user ({date=May 2021}) might need to be blocked for his intransigence here, considering his initial reaction to criticism was to blank it. This should be escalated to WP:ANI, I think. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 12:57, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jéské Couriano: I was surprised too, at the blatant lack of any procedure followed. I shall do the needful and escalate this. Appreciate the guidance. STC1 (talk) 13:02, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SierraTangoCharlie1, Jéské Couriano, and Shaquille.oatmeal3333: I think we should at least try to get a response from the editor in question first - it doesn't look like there has been any attempt at communication beyond edit summaries. He should have been pinged by now, so I would wait for further action before going to ANI (but I won't prevent you from doing so). LittlePuppers (talk) 13:07, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
See the diff I linked above, LittlePuppers. A user brought up the article's issues and called him by name, and he reverted it off. That's not a good-faith misunderstanding. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 13:32, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jéské Couriano, Shaquille.oatmeal3333, and LittlePuppers: I'm all for a discussion. I had left messages on the I.C. Colony Chat Page. From my watchlist, I can see that Shaquille.oatmeal3333 tried to delete the contents of the chat page and was reverted by other editors. The person doesn't seem to want to engage in communication, but only engages reverting other Edits. If the statements made on the page are backed up by WP:Reliable references, who am I to object?STC1 (talk) 13:27, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SierraTangoCharlie1, somehow I missed the talk page blank when I looked through the user's edits. Consider my concerns resolved. LittlePuppers (talk) 13:54, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm noticing that Shaquille.oatmeal3333 is a one-day-only SPA, which suggests they were hired to "work on" the article, and not to answer questions from WP.--Quisqualis (talk)

how we can change this draft page on pubblic page ?

Please help us, thanks Draft:Iaia De Rose— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gpsrl (talkcontribs) 19 May 2021 09:11 (UTC)

@Gpsrl: If you consider that the draft is ready for consideration as an article, you can click the blue 'submit' button in the grey draft notice. However, please clarify what you mean by 'we' and 'us'. Accounts do not allow use by more than one person (or any corporate or promotional use). (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 14:13, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But, Gpsrl, you will save people time, and make it more likely that a reviewer will pick up your draft and look at it, if you format your citations better: see REFB. On a quick look, I am doubtful that enough of your references are all three of reliable, indpendent of the subject, and containing significant coverage of her. Remember that Wikipedia is basically not interested in anything that the subject says or wants to say about herself, or what her associates say about her: it is only interested in what people who have no connection with her, and have not been prompted or fed information on her behalf, have chosen to publish about her in reliable places. --ColinFine (talk) 14:55, 19 May 2021 (UTC)--ColinFine (talk) 14:55, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How best to add/edit for Wikipedia an article already drafted with the help of a former Swedish civil engineer and typed in MS Word?

I added an article about my father 'Raymond Ray-Jones' to Wikipedia some years ago and now want to add another 'SfB: the first special classification for the building industry' which is already typed using MS Word. I am the author.Alan (talk) 14:19, 19 May 2021 (UTC)--Alan (talk) 14:19, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it will need to be modified in accordance with Wikipedia conventions and I'm sure it is not perfect, but having read a lot of Wikipedia 'How-to' pages, I am still not sure how best to go ahead. Can I upload it to editorial main-space and then work on it, or get permission to edit and use an editing wizard, or should I upload it for far more experienced editors to have a look at it first?

Thank you for your help with this query. Alan Ray-Jones, former Architect & RIBA member, UK Alan (talk) 14:19, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Presumably SfB is Samarbetskommittén för Byggnadsfrågor, which does not have a Swedish Wikipedia article yet. Have you read Wikipedia:Your First Article? Does your draft have references? presumably they won't be in Wikipedia format. You could put the Word article into your sandbox, User:RJalan/sandbox, then ask for more advice if you need it. TSventon (talk) 15:26, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice, which I will follow. You are correct about the subject of the article - could it be translated into Swedish from English Wikipedia, or should I ask my Swedish colleague to translate it and contribute it to Swedish Wikipedia himself if he is willing?

Alan there is some guidance on translating en Wikipedia articles at Wikipedia:Translate us. There is a tool to translate articles, which I haven't tried, but a volunteer, possibly your friend, would be needed to check the machine translation. TSventon (talk) 16:14, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Paplaj mata dausa Rajasthan India

    Dear,

Pls upload full information about Godess Paplaj Mata Mandir situated in Lalsot distt. Dausa, Rajasthan, India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.99.165.239 (talk) 15:48, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. We have an article Paplaj Mata, but it is a stub with no references because no volunteer has chosen to add reliably sourced information to it. Your request is like saying "Please write a book about ...": it is possible that somebody will be interested in doing the large amount of work required to locate reliable sources, and write content in the article; but there is no guarantee. You can make it more likely if you locate some reliable published sources about Paplaj Mata. Note that sources like https://www.paplajmata.com and https://www.gosahin.com/places-to-visit/paplaj-mata-mandir/ are not adequate - the first is not independent and the second is probably not reliable. We really need scholarly books from reputable publishers. --ColinFine (talk) 16:41, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    User creation log filtering

In the User creation log special page, how can I filter the results to only those users who have contributed something, i.e., their contribs is not a redlink. Jay (talk) 18:20, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jay: I don't think there's a built-in tool for this, but I asked about this some time ago at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests, and DannyS712 helped put together a short user script for me that does exactly this (I installed it at User:DanCherek/UserLogPatrol.js). It adds a "More" tab at the top right part of the user creation log page, and if you click "Hide" in the dropdown menu then only users with contributions are shown. DanCherek (talk) 18:27, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I have imported it and it works! Will it be added to Wikipedia:User scripts/List? Looks like I am the only other user using it. Jay (talk) 18:46, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll put it on my to-do list after writing a short doc page and figuring out where it should be placed on that script list. DanCherek (talk) 20:24, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Folks!! Once again a copyright question, regarding this image: [2] This was taken by a German soldier at the end of 1944 or early 1945 (I've only just started the article). It was taken in the Netherlands, as that was where the radio team was base. There are hardly any images of this type. I've been looking for about three years and seen never anything like it, or even one of them, hence the reason for the question. Is it possible it is in some kind of public domain as it was taken by a member of the German army? I have no idea, really. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 21:27, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Help with content work

Hi, I've mainly spent time doing cleanup and other work and want to dip my toes into content creation/improvement. I'm not really sure how best to do some expansion work. One area I have trouble with is turning data and lists into prose (or even if that's necessary): see Ajax, Ontario#Communities of Ajax as an example. I'm also having trouble finding info in general and am wondering what to do: in the article I'm trying to improve at User:Eviolite/sandbox, I've hit a wall as all of the sources for things such as attraction/recreation and economy are promotional or otherwise self-published (in the case of the economic section, most of the info comes from the companies or the town's commerce board itself, which obviously stand to gain from publishing info). I've been pointed to newspaper archives and archive.org, but none seem to have anything recent at all for the area (the city's only newspaper closed some years ago and their site was usurped, while Google's news archive and other sources available at the Wikipedia Library come up blank). In this case, would it be better to only include brief snippets of factual info? I'm not very comfortable with determining which info should be included in something like a "recreations" section as well, given that a city will have tons of attractions of varying subjective notability. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks! eviolite (talk) 01:54, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone keeps saying "apple music" but it doesn't have lengths?

I've been keepin an eye on Scaled and Icy for a while now, and people kept adding tracklists without a source (to an unreleased album). I added a comment saying please provide a source, because before editors were just saying "apple music" in their edit summaries.

Now someone actually provided a link, but I'm very confused. Here is the link. [3]

The track lengths (other than the singles) are not there! I don't understand why people keep adding it? I think it could be a regional difference which is why I haven't immediately reverted the edit. Can anyone confirm the added track lengths or shed light about any possible regional differences on Apple Music? Thanks so much. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 02:05, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mcguy15, that page shows lengths for a few tracks (those that offer a preview) for me. Presumably lengths would be shown for all tracks if someone were to have an account/subscription. LittlePuppers (talk) 02:38, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@LittlePuppers: Yep I know, those are the singles. It's an unreleased album, so I'm not sure a subscription would get you anywhere. Anyone happen to have an Apple Music subscription that can verify this? Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 03:19, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Apple music" is not a published source. This is not an acceptable way to cite information. --Jayron32 18:17, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mobin18. To add to what HeartGlow30797 said (they didn't ping you so you might not have seen their reply): the redlink doesn't say anything about your account: it merely says that your user page doesn't exist, because you haven't created one. There is no requirement to have a user page, and some long-term prolific editors choose not to create one. If you do choose to create one, please see User pages for what kinds of thing you may put on it. --ColinFine (talk) 09:52, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing our coops page

I work at Suma https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Suma_(co-operative)&gettingStartedReturn=true , we are a workers coop so we all work and won the business. One of our web team had tried to edit the Suma page in the recent history but his changes were rejected (and he was banned from editing). We would like to at least add to the page as it is out of date, and in some places wrong. Would changes from our workers be rejected normally?

We would just edit the page, but are wary of it being rejected again, although also the page is not correct which feels like unless you are a worker you could not update it properly. Advice would be appreciated.

Hello Breadfortogo and welcome to Wikipedia! Now, WP has some fairly strict rules about WP:Conflict of interest editing, but while you can't control the article, it's quite possible for you to have influence. I suggest you check WP:Edit requests and make such requests at Talk:Suma (co-operative). Try to make them in form of "I suggest this change in this section based on this reference (WP:RS)." You can also try to ask for help and advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire. Hope this helps. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:54, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Copy-paste issue not working correctly

I recently edited the List of Nintendo Switch games (A-L) list and others along the other list of games, and I cannot seem to correctly copy and paste as I tried to highlight something on there, and when I try and paste something, it deletes the highlighted part of it. I haven't had that issue late last year until now. I had switched to the Mobile view and apparently it still has that problem. I thought it was my phone or carrier. Editing talk pages

I don't think I'm very experienced yet, so almost all of my edits have been on talk pages. And on talk pages, I have mostly been answering people's questions about the subject that the page talks about. For instance on M4 Sherman page, I responded to the question of whether the Sherman was good or bad(which is a subjective issue anyway). And sometimes I ask my own questions to see if there are poeple who are smarter than me who are willing to help me understand more about what I asked(which is usually history). But recently, I have been getting a lot of reverts from one user who says my edits are disruptive and wrote that I could be blocked from editing without warning. I understand that talk pages are meant for improving the article page, but a huge number of stuff on talk pages is not about the article pages anyway. I want to abide the rules and I want to learn history too. Is there anything I can do to achieve both of these things without getting blocked by other users?Blamazon (talk) 19:36, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a forum or a social media platform. The talk pages of articles are for improving the article, not discussing the subject of the article. If somebody tries to get a discussion about, say, the M4 Sherman tank itself, don't play along. Just refuse to cooperate. Such discussions are for any of the many question-and-answer sites like Quora and Reddit, not for Wikipedia article talk pages. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:24, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I've been told that a lot. But how should I respond to users that threaten to block my edits?Blamazon (talk) 20:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blamazon, to answer your first question, you could read some articles you are interested in, do some online research and try to improve the articles. For your second, all I can suggest is apologise and abide by WP:NOT#FORUM in future. TSventon (talk) 21:00, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Location on infobox map different in different langauge.

The location in the infobox settlement shows different in Isizulu than English, even though the coordinates are the same.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowsaweyne https://zu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowsaweyne

I notice the two infoboxes use different methods for setting the coordinates. One uses the coordinates parameter and the other uses latd/longd etc. My guess is that is making a difference somehow in where the pin gets placed. RudolfRed (talk) 22:30, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you click on the coordinates, the map at GeoHack in both cases show the same location for the pin. I would ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) MB 00:38, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    What am I doing?

    Hi,

I am confused on what I am doing here. I am supposed to be editing Demaratus I think. I want to change some information on the lead, but I don't know where the original writer of that information got that information. I am completely lost.

ZuesChill, in theory the information in the lead is a summary of the rest of the article, where you will find the references. In the case of Demaratus only two modern works are mentioned, so you could try those.
If you made your question more specific, it might be easier to answer. Also please sign any statement you post here by placing ~~~~ at the end of your post. TSventon (talk) 01:54, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Ok to remove template message?

Hello, I added numerous inline citations to this article and wanted to see if it would be ok to remove the corresponding template? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clement_Renzi?oldformat=true Thank you!Metalox1961 (talk) 23:34, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Metalox1961, yes. It seems reasonable to remove the template now. However, the later sections like Exhibition lacks citations. So, either you can try adding citations there or you can replace the existing template with {{more citations needed}} template. Lightbluerain (Talk | contribs) 01:51, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Article title question

Hi, I stumbled across Satyanarayan Singh (Bihar politician, died 2020). That's the title of the article. Is that correct or does it need to be changed? If so, how does one change it? Thank you. :) Abillionradios (talk) 00:43, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Abillionradios the title looks fine: Satyanarayan Singh lists several Bihar politicians, hence the need to mention the date of death. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation. TSventon (talk) 01:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Finding the right OCLC

Dear Help Desk. It seems that books cited as sources in Wikipedia articles should be identified with an OCLC number if they are too old for ISBN. So I started looking for OCLCs for such sources. I went to the WorldCat website, typed in the book's title, and then checked for the right publisher and publication year. I have added such OCLCs on many sources in the articles on my watchlist. Then I found that in the case of books available on Internet Archive, an OCLC number is often given among the metadata of the book in Internet Archive. However, the OCLC numbers found in these two ways rarely (never?) agree. Which OCLC number should be preferred?

    Examples:

    • Debrett, John (1828). Peerage of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Vol. 2 (17th ed.). London: F. C. and J. Rivington. OCLC 54499602.

    Internet Archive: no OCLC given.

The OCLC above is the one given by Internet Archive where the title page says 1930 but the metadata say 1910. In WorldCat I found (year is 1910): 2643587

The OCLC above is the one given by Internet Archive. In WorldCat I found (year is 1955): 316159899

    Dear Team,

We are unable to log in to the page we have created in the wiki.

We don't know the username mail or password.

kindly let us know the username and mail of our wiki so we can log in and make the necessary changes.

    Thanks. Team D.K Taknet

Assuming that this is about an article on Wikipedia and not some other wiki site:
    • You don't need a username or password to edit the article. If you plan to make edits, you are encouraged, though not required, to create an account.
    • It's not "your" wiki, it's Wikipedia's article. If you have some connection with the subject of the article, you shouldn't edit it yourself (or yourselves, see below). Instead, you should describe the changes you propose on its talk page.
    • You have signed as a team. Wikipedia does not allow teams to share an account.
    Maproom (talk) 10:13, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hello, team. I think you have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. D K Taknet is an encyclopaedia article: it has no connection to any account, and it is not possible to "log into it". It does not belong to Taknet or his team, and they do not control its contents. Any editor (logged in or not) may edit it - except those who have a conflict of interest.
What you should do if you want to recommend changes to that article is:
    • Create a personal account for each individual who is going to be working on this. (This is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended). The accounts do not need to have the person's real name (I do, but many editors use a pseudonym), but they should not look as if they are used by a team. So for example "JHT at Taknet team" would be OK if you wanted to show your affiliation.
    • Each of the accounts should put a notice on its user page explaining your connection to Taknet. If you are in any way paid or employed to do this, then you are considered a paid editor, and you must put a declaration on your user page.
    • For each change you wish to see in the article, make an edit request on the article's talk page, being as specific as you can (eg "Add sentence ...", or "Change text X to Y", and give a reliably published source for any information you wish to add.
    • An uninvolved editor will in time see your request, and decide what to do with it.

USE OF A PAINTING THAT IS DISPLAYED IN WKIPEDIA

I WOULD LIKE TO USE WINSLOW HOMER'S PAINTING "EIGHT BELLS" IN MY COMPANY'S INFORMATION. HIS DEATH IS OVER 70 YEARS AGO. IS IT LEGAL TO USE THIS IMAGE? WHO OWNS THIS PAINTING? WHO DO I ASK FOR A FORMAL APPROVAL? STEVE KALISH — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.199.118.144 (talk) 13:21, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Steve. Thanks for stopping by to ask. First of all, please don't type in ALL CAPS when writing messages to people. It gets interpreted as SHOUTING and can be seen as distracting and rude. Secondly, questions about media copyright can be found by clicking the image in question and reading the image license. If you click the image in the article Eight Bells (painting), you'll see the following text under the lisencing:
This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or fewer.
This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1926.
Being that the work is in the public domain, that means it is free to use without restriction. This is not true of most images at Wikipedia, however, so do take care. In the future, if you have trickier copyright questions, you may want to direct them to Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, which specializes in helping people with questions just like this one. --Jayron32 13:27, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating subpages

Greetz Helpdeskers, hoe all is well. Does anyone know if we have, say a script, or add-on, that allows the automatic creation of a user subpage? E.g.—if I wanted to create User:Serial Number 54129/Knows FA about WP, it would be handy if the user, etc, bit was pre-filled and I just added my title. If you get my drift. Cheers! ——Serial 14:41, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    This sounds like a job for Help:Inputbox: —Cryptic 15:03, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    You could also do this:
Which discretely prefixes your user talk prefix Victor Schmidt (talk) 16:19, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks, @Cryptic and Victor Schmidt:, that's absolutely the thing I wanted. Is there a big difference between the two? And, also, can I just copy this code to e.g. my userpage for easy access? (as: having the memory of a goldfish, I'll forget I even asked here by next week!). Thanks very much for your really useful replies! ——Serial 16:33, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Serial Number 54129: The main difference is that my solution discretely prepends User:Serial Number 54129/ (which means you can't forget it) while Cryptic's Solution doesn't do that automatically, meaing if you replace the inputbox content with "Example", you might end up at Example. One small note though: When you want to create user supages, you obviviously want to have the default= param state User:Serial Number 54129/ so the page actually lands in the user namespace and not on the talkpage. But yes, if you take care of that you can safely copy that to your userpage. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:24, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    That's understood, thanks both, again!  :) ——Serial 19:47, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Infobox

How do I replace a photo in an Infobox?

Felbridge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felbridge - I am trying to update the pic of St John the Divine Parish Church with a March 2021 photo from my friend Malcolm Francis who has given me authority to do this. I had no difficulty updating the pic of the church interior , but this is in an Infobox - can't see how to replace the photo in the Infobox. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drgordonwilkinson (talkcontribs) 16:15, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Drgordonwilkinson I assume you are talking about File:StJohnsFelbridgeExteriorMarch2021.jpg. Has your friend contacted Wikimedia Commons to confirm that he releases his rights to the file? There is a suitable email template at Commons:OTRS#Email message template for release of rights to a file. If this is not done the image is liable to be deleted from Commons.
To replace the image open the article, click edit source, find the code for the infobox at the top of the article and replace the name of the old image with the name of the new image. TSventon (talk) 17:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Highlighted things being deleted when using copy-paste

I was just wondering if anyone knows why a highlighted part of like when you want to paste something, is deleted and just keeps getting deleted after trying again and again? A particular topic on List of Nintendo Switch games (A–F), I don't usually like to type everything out by hand, so I copy and paste, and when doing so, it's deleted and it frustrates me. Even on an Android phone it happens often now. And I don't know if others are having a similar problem, could someone ask and experiment if they are having this issue and it's not just me? Very small font size

Since a day or two, English Wikipedia's texts (article content) appear in a very small font size on my screen. My skin is Vector with "Use Legacy Vector" preference. I have exactly the same preferences in German-language Wikipedia, but there the text appears in normal size. Maybe connected to this (German thread) and Task 283206, but I don't see the effect of the shrunken font in English Wikipedia mentioned there. Any hints, ideas, or can someone report this effect in the appropriate place (another Phabricator thread? My experience with Phabricator is limited and I don't feel confident in handling it). Gestumblindi (talk) 18:47, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Unchecking "Use Legacy Vector" doesn't change this, the font size here in English Wikipedia remains much too small. Gestumblindi (talk) 18:49, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Try holding down the ctrl key and push the + key. Sometimes you can accidentally zoom out/in and the browser remembers those settings next time you visit that website. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:57, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but that's not it. My zoom factor is on 100 %. Of course I could zoom in to increase the font size, but the standard size at 100 % (neither zoomed in nor zoomed out) is now very small (note, only in *English* Wikipedia), and that started about 2 days ago. In the German thread, Hgzh pointed out the preference to which this is connected: It happens if "Vector classic typography (use only sans-serif in Vector skin)" is checked in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. I unchecked the "classic typography" and now my font size is normal again. But I suppose that this gadget needs fixing. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:10, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What is Going on Here, Pronoun Confusion?

I was just reading an article about Demi Lovato. As I was reading, I noticed a series of subject pronoun errors. Do you folks not edit your work, or have you capitulated to the new labeling of persons who refuse to be identified by our acknowledge their gender? (*here, the pronoun "their" is used correctly / conventionally).

I have donated to Wikipedia in the past because it has been a useful place to go for information on certain subjects. But if Wikipedia is going to expect me to relearn the use of pronouns in order to make sense of its articles, then I'll just forget about using it as a source. I will look at other articles, but if I continue to see consistent misguided attempts to accommodate the agenda of a tiny portion of our population, I will definitely say adios to Wikipedia.
