    Inappropriate edits

Hi. I was looking at this page

    HooplaKidz

and found it was filled with all sorts of obviously inappropriate edits. Looks like a bot did it?? I can’t make heads or tails of the instructions on how to report this kind of activity but think it should be addressed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.20.53.234 (talk) 00:49, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A bot made the most recent edit to that article, but other editors added the vandalism. I have removed it. 331dot (talk) 00:51, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Help with content work

Hi, I've mainly spent time doing cleanup and other work and want to dip my toes into content creation/improvement. I'm not really sure how best to do some expansion work. One area I have trouble with is turning data and lists into prose (or even if that's necessary): see Ajax, Ontario#Communities of Ajax as an example. I'm also having trouble finding info in general and am wondering what to do: in the article I'm trying to improve at User:Eviolite/sandbox, I've hit a wall as all of the sources for things such as attraction/recreation and economy are promotional or otherwise self-published (in the case of the economic section, most of the info comes from the companies or the town's commerce board itself, which obviously stand to gain from publishing info). I've been pointed to newspaper archives and archive.org, but none seem to have anything recent at all for the area (the city's only newspaper closed some years ago and their site was usurped, while Google's news archive and other sources available at the Wikipedia Library come up blank). In this case, would it be better to only include brief snippets of factual info? I'm not very comfortable with determining which info should be included in something like a "recreations" section as well, given that a city will have tons of attractions of varying subjective notability. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks! eviolite (talk) 01:54, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone keeps saying "apple music" but it doesn't have lengths?

I've been keepin an eye on Scaled and Icy for a while now, and people kept adding tracklists without a source (to an unreleased album). I added a comment saying please provide a source, because before editors were just saying "apple music" in their edit summaries.

Now someone actually provided a link, but I'm very confused. Here is the link. [1]

The track lengths (other than the singles) are not there! I don't understand why people keep adding it? I think it could be a regional difference which is why I haven't immediately reverted the edit. Can anyone confirm the added track lengths or shed light about any possible regional differences on Apple Music? Thanks so much. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 02:05, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mcguy15, that page shows lengths for a few tracks (those that offer a preview) for me. Presumably lengths would be shown for all tracks if someone were to have an account/subscription. LittlePuppers (talk) 02:38, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@LittlePuppers: Yep I know, those are the singles. It's an unreleased album, so I'm not sure a subscription would get you anywhere. Anyone happen to have an Apple Music subscription that can verify this? Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 03:19, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Apple music" is not a published source. This is not an acceptable way to cite information. --Jayron32 18:17, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Account Name in Red Color

Hi My Account name is in Red Color & it has been like this since ages. I submitted an article back in 2013-14 about Family Hospital Heart Clinic which was I think NOT published & an accusation of personal projection was made. I am a regular reader of Wikipedia & no doubt it is a treasure of information for me. Please help me restore my account to Normal.

    Thank you

Hello, click on the red link that is your name and type create your own user page, this should create a blue link! Another thing, please don't list emails, instead, sign with four tildes (~~~~). Heart (talk) 05:01, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Mobin18. To add to what HeartGlow30797 said (they didn't ping you so you might not have seen their reply): the redlink doesn't say anything about your account: it merely says that your user page doesn't exist, because you haven't created one. There is no requirement to have a user page, and some long-term prolific editors choose not to create one. If you do choose to create one, please see User pages for what kinds of thing you may put on it. --ColinFine (talk) 09:52, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing our coops page

I work at Suma https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Suma_(co-operative)&gettingStartedReturn=true , we are a workers coop so we all work and won the business. One of our web team had tried to edit the Suma page in the recent history but his changes were rejected (and he was banned from editing). We would like to at least add to the page as it is out of date, and in some places wrong. Would changes from our workers be rejected normally?

We would just edit the page, but are wary of it being rejected again, although also the page is not correct which feels like unless you are a worker you could not update it properly. Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks— Preceding unsigned comment added by Breadfortogo (talkcontribs) 20 May 2021 07:30 (UTC)

Hello Breadfortogo and welcome to Wikipedia! Now, WP has some fairly strict rules about WP:Conflict of interest editing, but while you can't control the article, it's quite possible for you to have influence. I suggest you check WP:Edit requests and make such requests at Talk:Suma (co-operative). Try to make them in form of "I suggest this change in this section based on this reference (WP:RS)." You can also try to ask for help and advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire. Hope this helps. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:54, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Can't upload an image

I am trying to upload the logo of an aid organisation to Wiki Commons. But I keep getting a message saying 'Wikipedia can't tell whether' it's appropriate.

    What can I do?

Read over c:COM:L to see if the image would be allowed there. If it doesn't, stop bother trying. If it does, you can use their upload wizard. Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:12, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Rfrokeeffe, logos don't go on commons, they go on WP itself, see WP:LOGO. I think you only are allowed to upload it if the aid organisation already has a WP-article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:08, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft Review

Hi! Just wanted to see if anyone could review my draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Breaktime_(organization) I submitted it 3 months ago. Thank you WikiSpitfire (talk) 13:44, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiSpitfire As noted in the submission notice, "This may take 5 months or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order. There are 5,178 pending submissions waiting for review." It's not a queue; volunteers pick drafts to review in their free time. There isn't any way to "jump the line", so you will need to continue to be patient. Do you have a particular need for a speedy review? 331dot (talk) 13:53, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't have a particular need. Just wanted to check in. I will continue to be patient then, thanks! WikiSpitfire (talk) 14:04, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Attempting to Edit Content

    Hello,

I am attempting to edit content for my client immaculate-heart-academy and a bot keeps reverting the changes. Can someone please assist? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carusodigital (talkcontribs) 14:15, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Carusodigital: Since they are your client, you are a paid editor (WP:PAID), with a conflict of interest (WP:COI). Not a problem, just a fact. Please comply with our mandatory requirement that you declare your paid status. Please do not edit the article directly. Instead, use the {{request edit}} mechanism. Make your requests on the article's talk page. Secondary issue: your user name appears to be the name of a organization, not an individual. Please abandon that username and create a new one that complies with our guideline (WP:USERNAME). Do this before your declare your paid status under your new username. If you have any problems, come back here. -Arch dude (talk) 15:10, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
((edit conflict)) Carusodigital, read WP:COI and WP:PAID very carefully and follow the instructions there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:11, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, Carusodigital, your edits weren't reverted by a bot, but by experienced human volunteer editors. Please understand that Wikipedia is not interested in what your client says or wants to say about itself: what it is interested in is what people who have no connection with your client, and have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of your client, have chosen to publish about your client. --ColinFine (talk) 10:01, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Phelan Cemetery

hello good morning, my name is Patricia. My family and I recently lost my sister in a horrible car accident, we are trying to get a hold of anyone and a phone number from the Phelan Cemetery. We would like for the last resting place for my sister to be here at Phelan Cemetery. Please we need some information.

                                                                  desperately need information,

This help desk is for questions about using or contributing to Wikipedia. We are not affiliated with Phelan Cemetery in any way. Assuming you are inquiring about the Phelan Cemetery in Bastrop Texas; I can't locate a phone number for them online. Copy-paste issue not working correctly

I recently edited the List of Nintendo Switch games (A-L) list and others along the other list of games, and I cannot seem to correctly copy and paste as I tried to highlight something on there, and when I try and paste something, it deletes the highlighted part of it. I haven't had that issue late last year until now. I had switched to the Mobile view and apparently it still has that problem. I thought it was my phone or carrier. Editing talk pages

I don't think I'm very experienced yet, so almost all of my edits have been on talk pages. And on talk pages, I have mostly been answering people's questions about the subject that the page talks about. For instance on M4 Sherman page, I responded to the question of whether the Sherman was good or bad(which is a subjective issue anyway). And sometimes I ask my own questions to see if there are poeple who are smarter than me who are willing to help me understand more about what I asked(which is usually history). But recently, I have been getting a lot of reverts from one user who says my edits are disruptive and wrote that I could be blocked from editing without warning. I understand that talk pages are meant for improving the article page, but a huge number of stuff on talk pages is not about the article pages anyway. I want to abide the rules and I want to learn history too. Is there anything I can do to achieve both of these things without getting blocked by other users?Blamazon (talk) 19:36, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a forum or a social media platform. The talk pages of articles are for improving the article, not discussing the subject of the article. If somebody tries to get a discussion about, say, the M4 Sherman tank itself, don't play along. Just refuse to cooperate. Such discussions are for any of the many question-and-answer sites like Quora and Reddit, not for Wikipedia article talk pages. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:24, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I've been told that a lot. But how should I respond to users that threaten to block my edits?Blamazon (talk) 20:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blamazon, to answer your first question, you could read some articles you are interested in, do some online research and try to improve the articles. For your second, all I can suggest is apologise and abide by WP:NOT#FORUM in future. TSventon (talk) 21:00, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Location on infobox map different in different langauge.

The location in the infobox settlement shows different in Isizulu than English, even though the coordinates are the same.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowsaweyne https://zu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowsaweyne

I notice the two infoboxes use different methods for setting the coordinates. One uses the coordinates parameter and the other uses latd/longd etc. My guess is that is making a difference somehow in where the pin gets placed. RudolfRed (talk) 22:30, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you click on the coordinates, the map at GeoHack in both cases show the same location for the pin. I would ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) MB 00:38, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    What am I doing?

    Hi,

I am confused on what I am doing here. I am supposed to be editing Demaratus I think. I want to change some information on the lead, but I don't know where the original writer of that information got that information. I am completely lost.

ZuesChill, in theory the information in the lead is a summary of the rest of the article, where you will find the references. In the case of Demaratus only two modern works are mentioned, so you could try those.
If you made your question more specific, it might be easier to answer. Also please sign any statement you post here by placing ~~~~ at the end of your post. TSventon (talk) 01:54, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeffrey Beall: This is one of the issues being discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Font sizes all over the place. Be patient, and with any luck the technical people will work out how to fix it. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:23, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Metalox1961, yes. It seems reasonable to remove the template now. However, the later sections like Exhibition lacks citations. Article title question

Hi, I stumbled across Satyanarayan Singh (Bihar politician, died 2020). That's the title of the article. Is that correct or does it need to be changed? If so, how does one change it? Thank you. :) Abillionradios (talk) 00:43, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Abillionradios the title looks fine: Satyanarayan Singh lists several Bihar politicians, hence the need to mention the date of death. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation. TSventon (talk) 01:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Finding the right OCLC

Dear Help Desk. It seems that books cited as sources in Wikipedia articles should be identified with an OCLC number if they are too old for ISBN. So I started looking for OCLCs for such sources. I went to the WorldCat website, typed in the book's title, and then checked for the right publisher and publication year. I have added such OCLCs on many sources in the articles on my watchlist. Then I found that in the case of books available on Internet Archive, an OCLC number is often given among the metadata of the book in Internet Archive. However, the OCLC numbers found in these two ways rarely (never?) agree. Which OCLC number should be preferred?

    Examples:

    • Debrett, John (1828). Peerage of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Vol. 2 (17th ed.). London: F. C. and J. Rivington. OCLC 54499602.

    Internet Archive: no OCLC given.

The OCLC above is the one given by Internet Archive where the title page says 1930 but the metadata say 1910. In WorldCat I found (year is 1910): 2643587

The OCLC above is the one given by Internet Archive. In WorldCat I found (year is 1955): 316159899

Assuming that this is about an article on Wikipedia and not some other wiki site:
    • You don't need a username or password to edit the article. If you plan to make edits, you are encouraged, though not required, to create an account.
    • It's not "your" wiki, it's Wikipedia's article. If you have some connection with the subject of the article, you shouldn't edit it yourself (or yourselves, see below). Instead, you should describe the changes you propose on its talk page.
    • You have signed as a team. Wikipedia does not allow teams to share an account.
    Maproom (talk) 10:13, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hello, team. I think you have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. D K Taknet is an encyclopaedia article: it has no connection to any account, and it is not possible to "log into it". It does not belong to Taknet or his team, and they do not control its contents. Any editor (logged in or not) may edit it - except those who have a conflict of interest.
What you should do if you want to recommend changes to that article is:
    • Create a personal account for each individual who is going to be working on this. (This is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended). The accounts do not need to have the person's real name (I do, but many editors use a pseudonym), but they should not look as if they are used by a team. So for example "JHT at Taknet team" would be OK if you wanted to show your affiliation.
    • Each of the accounts should put a notice on its user page explaining your connection to Taknet. If you are in any way paid or employed to do this, then you are considered a paid editor, and you must put a declaration on your user page.
    • For each change you wish to see in the article, make an edit request on the article's talk page, being as specific as you can (eg "Add sentence ...", or "Change text X to Y", and give a reliably published source for any information you wish to add.
    • An uninvolved editor will in time see your request, and decide what to do with it.

I WOULD LIKE TO USE WINSLOW HOMER'S PAINTING "EIGHT BELLS" IN MY COMPANY'S INFORMATION. HIS DEATH IS OVER 70 YEARS AGO. IS IT LEGAL TO USE THIS IMAGE? WHO OWNS THIS PAINTING? WHO DO I ASK FOR A FORMAL APPROVAL? STEVE KALISH — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.199.118.144 (talk) 13:21, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Steve. Thanks for stopping by to ask. First of all, please don't type in ALL CAPS when writing messages to people. It gets interpreted as SHOUTING and can be seen as distracting and rude. Secondly, questions about media copyright can be found by clicking the image in question and reading the image license. If you click the image in the article Eight Bells (painting), you'll see the following text under the lisencing:
This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or fewer.
This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1926.
Being that the work is in the public domain, that means it is free to use without restriction. This is not true of most images at Wikipedia, however, so do take care. In the future, if you have trickier copyright questions, you may want to direct them to Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, which specializes in helping people with questions just like this one. --Jayron32 13:27, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating subpages

Greetz Helpdeskers, hoe all is well. Does anyone know if we have, say a script, or add-on, that allows the automatic creation of a user subpage? E.g.—if I wanted to create User:Serial Number 54129/Knows FA about WP, it would be handy if the user, etc, bit was pre-filled and I just added my title. If you get my drift. Cheers! ——Serial 14:41, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    This sounds like a job for Help:Inputbox: —Cryptic 15:03, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    You could also do this:
Which discretely prefixes your user talk prefix Victor Schmidt (talk) 16:19, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks, @Cryptic and Victor Schmidt:, that's absolutely the thing I wanted. Is there a big difference between the two? And, also, can I just copy this code to e.g. my userpage for easy access? (as: having the memory of a goldfish, I'll forget I even asked here by next week!). Thanks very much for your really useful replies! ——Serial 16:33, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Serial Number 54129: The main difference is that my solution discretely prepends User:Serial Number 54129/ (which means you can't forget it) while Cryptic's Solution doesn't do that automatically, meaing if you replace the inputbox content with "Example", you might end up at Example. One small note though: When you want to create user supages, you obviviously want to have the default= param state User:Serial Number 54129/ so the page actually lands in the user namespace and not on the talkpage. But yes, if you take care of that you can safely copy that to your userpage. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:24, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Drgordonwilkinson I assume you are talking about File:StJohnsFelbridgeExteriorMarch2021.jpg. Has your friend contacted Wikimedia Commons to confirm that he releases his rights to the file? There is a suitable email template at Commons:OTRS#Email message template for release of rights to a file. If this is not done the image is liable to be deleted from Commons.
To replace the image open the article, click edit source, find the code for the infobox at the top of the article and replace the name of the old image with the name of the new image. TSventon (talk) 17:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A particular topic on List of Nintendo Switch games (A–F), I don't usually like to type everything out by hand, so I copy and paste, and when doing so, it's deleted and it frustrates me. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 17:26, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you are using copy (ctrl-C) and not cut (ctrl-X)? --Jayron32 18:15, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually on a mobile phone. It was working out great some time ago, and now it doesn't seem to work. After highlighting the part, it just deletes it. Even on an Android phone it happens often now. And I don't know if others are having a similar problem, could someone ask and experiment if they are having this issue and it's not just me? And yes, I'm using copy and not cut. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 20:54, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Template:Coord

I added coordinates to this page: Walter Bean Grand River Trail and am unsure why it's rendering improperly. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks! Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 18:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mcguy15: Not your fault, this is a known issue with the Vector code. For more information, see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Coordinates in title dropped down, and the issue is being tracked at phab:T281974. DanCherek (talk) 20:13, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DanCherek: Thanks for the info! That sucks, all I can do is wait. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 20:16, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Very small font size

Since a day or two, English Wikipedia's texts (article content) appear in a very small font size on my screen. My skin is Vector with "Use Legacy Vector" preference. I have exactly the same preferences in German-language Wikipedia, but there the text appears in normal size. Maybe connected to this (German thread) and Task 283206, but I don't see the effect of the shrunken font in English Wikipedia mentioned there. Any hints, ideas, or can someone report this effect in the appropriate place (another Phabricator thread? My experience with Phabricator is limited and I don't feel confident in handling it). Gestumblindi (talk) 18:47, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Unchecking "Use Legacy Vector" doesn't change this, the font size here in English Wikipedia remains much too small. Gestumblindi (talk) 18:49, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Try holding down the ctrl key and push the + key. Sometimes you can accidentally zoom out/in and the browser remembers those settings next time you visit that website. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:57, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but that's not it. My zoom factor is on 100 %. Of course I could zoom in to increase the font size, but the standard size at 100 % (neither zoomed in nor zoomed out) is now very small (note, only in *English* Wikipedia), and that started about 2 days ago. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:02, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the German thread, Hgzh pointed out the preference to which this is connected: It happens if "Vector classic typography (use only sans-serif in Vector skin)" is checked in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. I unchecked the "classic typography" and now my font size is normal again. But I suppose that this gadget needs fixing. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:10, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is already a discussion at the technical village pump here. MediaWiki:Gadget-VectorClassic.css needs to be adjusted. -- hgzh 21:49, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Chrisfroelich: (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Hi there! Writing an article about yourself is highly discouraged here as it's a big conflict of interest. If there are multiple, independent, reliable sources to prove notability, you could submit an article to Articles for Creation, but again, it's highly discouraged. You could also try requesting an article here. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 20:13, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    moved misplaced question

I want to publish an article on Wikipedia, could you please help me with the procedure?

@Amna.anwar: I moved your question from the top of the page to a new section where it will be more visable and attract answers. RudolfRed (talk) 22:43, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Amna.anwar (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) I would recommend going through Articles for Creation. You can follow instructions to create a draft where you can create the article at your own pace. Then once it's finished, you may submit it, and if it's up to standard, it will be put in the wiki. Please note that any new articles must be about a notable subject: receiving coverage in multiple independent reliable sources, see WP:GNG. Thanks! Bruno Vain page deletion

    Hello:

Just wanted to enquire about the deletion of my "Bruno Vain" entry last year. I must have missed the notifications about the nomination for deletion User_talk:Nbfree. I believe I should contact user by the name of "Czar" but not sure where and how to do so. I will be more than happy to rewrite any portion to make it conform to Wikipedia policies if needed. Would appreciate your help very much Nbfree (talk) 00:03, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

     Courtesy link: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Bruno_Vain RudolfRed (talk) 00:28, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Nbfree: If you want to Contact "Czar", you can do so at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Czar (create a new section there). However, Before doing so I would recommend that you make a list of your WP:THREE main sources a future article would be based on. You can find a list of sources commonly discussed with regards to their reliability at WP:RSP. Victor Schmidt (talk) 06:00, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What is Going on Here, Pronoun Confusion?

I was just reading an article about Demi Lovato. As I was reading, I noticed a series of subject pronoun errors. Do you folks not edit your work, or have you capitulated to the new labeling of persons who refuse to be identified by our acknowledge their gender? (*here, the pronoun "their" is used correctly / conventionally).

I have donated to Wikipedia in the past because it has been a useful place to go for information on certain subjects. But if Wikipedia is going to expect me to relearn the use of pronouns in order to make sense of its articles, then I'll just forget about using it as a source. I will look at other articles, but if I continue to see consistent misguided attempts to accommodate the agenda of a tiny portion of our population, I will definitely say adios to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:9a80:b180:d4da:1dec:f1c6:f19f (talk)

Lovato has identified as non-binary and asks to be referred to as they/them. Wikipedia respects this because independent reliable sources have reported it. You are free to believe what you wish, but if you refuse to call people what they want to be called, that says more about you than them and we will have to get by without your visiting. Wikipedia does not change content because of donations or refusing to donate; otherwise everyone would blackmail Wikipedia to change its content. 331dot (talk) 16:39, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Additional to the above - Wikipedia does not change content because you don't like it either. Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:56, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Malformed Afd

When I try to lvote on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2021 May 22#List of weapons in the American Civil War, it's showing the templates for the following Afds as well. I don't want to touch it with a ten-foot pole (not a Civil War weapon) until it's fixed. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:29, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I've corrected the malformatted AFD. If I've got it wrong, someone will hopefully sort it out. - David Biddulph (talk) 21:52, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Working now. Thanks. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:21, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Help from Template editors needed

Hello, I recently added a template edit request for Template:Editnotices/Page/Ramdev at its talk page, but I found out that Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests has a backlog ranging from 7th April to today. So, I'm directly here to ask for help, so that my request for edit at Template talk:Editnotices/Page/Ramdev is seen by some editor who could help by making the requisite edit. Thanks. Cheers! A certain move of mine — what happened?

Hello all! I'm here with a somewhat unusual question. I don't know where to ask, but this was the best place I could find. On 15 May 2021, I moved a page (created in userspace, duplicating an existing page, and incorrectly moved into mainspace), User:Eochoa31/Speculative fiction by writers of color, back into userspace. I don't exactly recall what I did, but it appears that I moved this page over a redirect, and deleted the redirect by overwriting (Move log · Deletion log). I'm not a page mover or an administrator, and have never been either. Can someone help me figure out how exactly I did this? Tol | Talk | Contribs 00:39, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Tol: You were allowed to do that. Wikipedia:Moving a page#Moving over a redirect says: "If the new title exists but is a redirect to the old title with a single line in the page history, then you can rename the page using the regular procedure." PrimeHunter (talk) 00:57, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Ahh; thank you so much! I was unaware of this rather minute detail. Tol | Talk | Contribs 01:11, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Under Swainsboro, Georgia, you have Ray Guy listed. He is from Thomson, Georgia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agress7 (talkcontribs) 05:34, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Agress7: How do you know? The article Ray Guy says he is
    Born: December 22, 1949 (age 71)
    Swainsboro, Georgia
(see the frame at top-right). Do you have any WP:Reliable Sources to support your claim? --CiaPan (talk) 06:23, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We (Swainsboro High School) played against Thomson High School in 1967, and he was their kicker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agress7 (talkcontribs) 06:27, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Agress7: But what you say is about where he started his career and the section in the Swainsboro, Georgia article is about who was born there. No error here, those are just different facts about the same person. --CiaPan (talk) 06:36, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Renaming Category

Hi, I'd like to rename "Category:Stories within Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" to "Category:Stories within Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio" (as well as the parent category), given that the latter is the more commonly-used English translation. Any pointers? Thank you Kingoflettuce (talk) 10:09, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If somebody could just help me with that, I'd greatly appreciate it :) Kingoflettuce (talk) 10:10, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you have Twinkle, just use the Xfd function to nominate it for renaming. Or you can do it manually at WP:Cfd. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:28, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Or a combination of the two, since you want to rename three categories. The denizens over there complain if you don't bundle them (I know that from recent experience), though the instructions are lacking in that aspect. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:33, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My bad. WP:Cfd#Manual nominations describes the bundling procedure. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:38, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
