Schmigadoon! is an upcoming American musical comedy television series starring Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key. The series is due to air on Apple TV+ and will premiere on July 16, 2021.[4] It was created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, with all songs written by Paul who will also serve as showrunner.[3]
Premise
A couple on a backpacking trip discover a magical town called Schmigadoon which is in a Golden Age musical, and find out they can not leave until they find true love. The title and concept is a parody of the 1947 Broadway musical Brigadoon.[5]
Cinco Paul had the idea for the show over 20 years ago but at the time it was two men who stumble upon a musical. According to him when it has changed to "a couple who are stuck there until they can find true love" it really clicked for him. Both Paul and Cecily Strong stated that the show does not require any knowledge of the musicals and will work with audiences who are not familiar with them.[5]
