Crown Street railway station

Crown Street Station was on Crown Street, Liverpool, England. It opened as the world's first public railway station, on September 15 1830, as the Liverpool passenger terminus of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Stationary steam engines operated the continuous rope system used to haul wagons up inclines from Edge Hill station and up the Wapping Tunnel from Park Road Goods Depot.

Crown Street use as a passenger station ended in 1836 when Lime Street Station was opened. Crown Street remained open as a goods yard, and provided services to the Wapping Tunnel. A tower and plaque commemorates the station's place in history. It closed for good when services through the Wapping tunnel ended in 1972, and the area has been landscaped as a park, but part of the approach is now used as a headshunt for freight trains.
