The House is a weekly political magazine relating to the British Houses of Parliament.[1]

History and profile

The House was founded in 1976, by a cross-party group of MPs including Mike Thomas, Richard Faulkner and Patrick Cormack.[2] The magazine – published weekly when Parliament is sitting – blends interviews with leading political figures, news, opinion, analysis and coverage from both the Commons and the Lords.

The magazine is published by Dods, which also produces the Dods Parliamentary Companion, Holyrood, Civil Service World and The Parliament Magazine.[3]

The House is delivered to every MP and peer, and is available at stands in locations across the Parliamentary estate. The Dods website describes the publication as "Parliament's very own 'in-house' magazine", and claims that it is "closer than any other political magazine to the most powerful people in UK politics".[4]

The current editor of The House is Rosa Prince[5]. The editor in chief is Alan White[6]. Previous associate editors include Sir Graham Brady, Charles Kennedy, Austin Mitchell, Michael Gove, Priti Patel, Angus Robertson and Paul Goodman.

An editorial board, comprising MPs and peers drawn from all parties in both Houses, meets regularly to provide advice. The current board is composed of Sir Graham Brady, Meg Hillier, Alastair Carmichael, Karen Bradley, Saqib Bhatti, Baroness Gisela Stuart, Lord Patrick Cormack[7].
