The Willink School is a co-educational comprehensive in the village of Burghfield Common in the English county of Berkshire. The school was founded in 1957, becoming fully comprehensive in 1975. It has around 1,000 pupils aged 11 to 18.[1] The head teacher is Peter Fry.[2]
The school was awarded language college status in the mid-1990s – one of the first schools in the county with the status.[3] All KS3 pupils at The Willink study two languages from Year 8 (12/13 years old) onwards. Languages on offer for Key Stages 3 and 4 include French, Spanish and German.[4]
At its most recent Ofsted inspection, carried out in February 2014 the school was judged to be good with behaviour and safety judged as outstanding.[5]
Adult education
Evening classes in a range of languages are provided for the community.[6]
Leisure centre
Built in 1997, the Willink Leisure Centre provides for both the school and the local community. Originally partially funded by local councils, the centre is now managed by Parkwood Community Leisure on behalf of the local authority. Facilities include a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, a fitness suite, sports hall and outdoor floodlit areas.[7]
