Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of Nickelodeon

Nominator's rationale: The WikiProject Nickelodeon has been turned into a task force and does not use a standalone template. Any pages tagged with the required parameters will be placed in the general television category and these will be always empty. Gonnym (talk) 19:16, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of television programs

Nominator's rationale: Same scope (same language in category description). Gonnym (talk) 19:13, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Film posters by Michael Koelsch

Nominator's rationale: Non-notable category - article on Michael Koelsch was recently deleted (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Koelsch) and this category exists simply to promote this non-notable illustrator. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 June 3#Category:Books_with_cover_art_by_Michael_Koelsch was recently deleted as well. Ganesha811 (talk) 18:16, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Book covers by Michael Koelsch

Nominator's rationale: Non-notable category - article on Michael Koelsch was recently deleted (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Koelsch) and this category exists simply to promote this non-notable illustrator. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 June 3#Category:Books_with_cover_art_by_Michael_Koelsch was recently deleted as well. Ganesha811 (talk) 18:16, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Michael Koelsch

Nominator's rationale: Non-notable category - article on Michael Koelsch was recently deleted (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Koelsch) and this category exists simply to promote this non-notable illustrator. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 June 3#Category:Books_with_cover_art_by_Michael_Koelsch was recently deleted as well. Ganesha811 (talk) 18:15, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Kuwaiti people of Indian descent

Nominator's rationale: Single entry. Delete per WP:SMALL. - The9Man (Talk) 16:58, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- We have many categories of this kind. There are a lot of Indian expatriates in the Gulf area. It happens that the rest are apparently NN (since they have no article). Peterkingiron (talk) 14:48, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The only article in the category, Adline Castelino, is actually defined as Indian rather than Kuwaiti. Her claim to fame is having won Miss Diva, an Indian beauty pageant. Some sources call her Kuwait-born, which is quite different than Kuwaiti seen the very restrictive nationality laws in Kuwait and other Arab Gulf emirates, and it is extremely unlikely that she would hold Kuwaiti citizenship (unless proven otherwise by reliable sources). Per WP:NONDEF, she does not belong in this category, which would make the category empty. Place Clichy (talk) 09:56, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. We don't only use formal nationality/citizenship when putting people in these categories. She is Kuwaiti in that she was born in Kuwait. Part of a well-established categorisation tree. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:55, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Purge article, she moved to India at age 15, the connection with Kuwait is very weak. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:47, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Spending your first 15 years in a country is certainly not a "very weak" connection! It's most of your childhood, your formative years. Very many people have been categorised as coming from a particular country when they left it a lot younger than that. In fact, it's a standard pillar of biographical categorisation to categorise in which country (and which town) a person was born. No idea why she should be an exception. I get it that some editors don't like this, but picking on one category among hundreds of similar ones is just silly. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:28, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is nothing in her biography that relates to these so-called formative years, obviously apart from the bare fact that she lived in Kuwait at young age. She was Indian, with Indian parents who happened to live in Kuwait temporarily. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:23, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Category:People from Kuwait City is perfectly sufficient to reflect her connection to her city of birth. We should not invent this notion of Kuwaiti people of Indian descent because 1°) no reliable source would call her that, 2°) she is not Kuwaiti and 3°) she is not "of Indian descent" but fully Indian, except if you consider every Indian needs to be placed in a of Indian descent category, which would imho defeat the purpose of such categories. Place Clichy (talk) 02:13, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • People who were born in India are "Indian". People who were born in other countries of Indian parentage are "of Indian descent". It's very simple. It's a system we've been using for years. Again, why are we making an exception here? We wouldn't classify a person born in the UK or USA of Indian parentage as Indian, but "of Indian descent". So why should we do it here? What does "fully Indian" mean? Ethnically, yes, she's fully Indian. So are most people born in the UK and USA of Indian parentage. So what? -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:00, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sectarian violence by country

Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer, the categories are largely empty except for having Category:Shia–Sunni sectarian violence in Afghanistan etc. as a subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:43, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American Council on Science and Health

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCASSOC)
The American Council on Science and Health is a pro-industry science advocacy organization and this category consists of that main article and 5 biographies. Found and president Elizabeth Whelan is absolutely defined by her association but the trail starts to run cold with the other 4 articles: Stephen Barrett was a scientific advisor at some point, Robert J. White has no connection mentioned on Wikipedia, Elissa P. Benedek was a director, while Norman Borlaug has no connection mentioned in Wikipedia. This seems like classic WP:OCASSOC. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:21, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Members of the Athenaeum Club, London

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:TRIVIALCAT
Athenaeum Club, London is a gentlemen's club in London which has certainly had some prominent members including John Stuart Mill, Charles Dickens, and Charles Darwin. Tellingly, none of those articles even mention the association and nor do the other articles I clicked on so it doesn't seem remotely defining. We already have List of Athenaeum Club members for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:21, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Presidential speechwriters

Nominator's rationale: This category is being used for United States presidential speechwriters, not presidential speechwriters in general. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:43, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Anything that makes it clear which president is involved is an improvement. - RevelationDirect (talk) 18:48, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I'm fine with either option. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:37, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
