Shrenu Parikh (born 11 November)[2] is an Indian television actress. She is known for portraying Aastha Agnihotri in the StarPlus romantic drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Ek Baar Phir and Gauri Kumari Sharma in the drama series Ishqbaaaz.

Early life and education

Parikh was born and brought up in Vadodara, Gujarat.[3] She completed her education in Vadodara with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Babaria Institute of Pharmacy.[4][5] She has a younger brother, Shubham Parikh.[6]

Career

Parikh’s first television appearance was a cameo role in the show Gulaal (2010). She then appeared in the show Havan (2011).

Parikh secured her first television lead role in the romantic comedy Byaah Hamari Bahoo Ka opposite Gaurav Khanna. Speaking about her experience in this series, she says “I learned voice modulation and working on body language. I have grown as an actor”.[7]

Parikh rose to fame in the StarPlus's romantic drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Ek Baar Phir (2013-2015) paired opposite Avinash Sachdev, in which she portrayed Aastha Agnihotri, a strong progressive woman who aims to drive toward change by fighting against domestic violence to give recognition to women in her family.[8] Parikh's work in the series gained her wide recognition in Turkey. Speaking about her experience in this show, Parikh stated that it was her turning point in her career since she was offered future roles because of her recognition as Aastha.[9]

In 2017, Parikh starred in the first Indian television spin-off series on StarPlus, Dil Boley Oberoi (2017) portraying Gauri Kumari Sharma opposite Kunal Jaisingh.[10] This series was later merged with StarPlus's Ishqbaaaz in which Parikh continued her portrayal of Gauri in the drama series Ishqbaaaz (2017-2018).[11] Parikh quit the show after the series took a generation leap.[12]

In 2017, she went on to make her film debut in Thodi Thodi Si Manmaaniyan opposite Arsh Sehrawat.[13] In 2018, she starred in her second film, Lamboo Rastoo opposite Jay Soni.[14]

In 2019, Parikh played her first anti-heroine role in the StarPlus's thriller series Ek Bhram...Sarvagun Sampanna (2019) opposite Zain Imam, in which she played Janhvi Mittal, a woman who masks her identity (later revealed as Pooja Sharma) to deceive the Mittal family. Janhvi is fueled by revenge to destroy the family with her hidden ambition. Speaking about why she chose to portray this role, Parikh says “I always had this thing in my mind that I wanted to do something unlike my other roles. I wanted to do something challenging for sure. Ek Bhram — Sarvagun Sampanna has everything I was looking for.” Parikh claims that she started to audition for this while she was shooting for Ishqbaaaz. When she learned more about her character, she initially refused to take up the role, but the producers were convinced that she can portray Janhvi Mittal.[15]
