Kieran Moore is a Canadian physician who is the incoming Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario replacing Dr. David Williams, set to assume office on June 26, 2021.[3][4] Since 2011, he is serving as the Medical Officer of Health for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.[5]

Education

Moore graduated with a M.D. from the University of Ottawa in 1985, specializing in family and emergency medicine.[3] He also holds a Masters of Public Health from Queen's University and a MSc in Disaster medicine from the University of Brussels in collaboration with the World Health Organization.[2]

He holds diplomas in Sports medicine, Tropical medicine & hygiene, and humanitarian assistance and completed a fellowship in Public Health & Preventive Medicine at Queen's University sanctioned by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.[6]

Career

Medical Officer of Health of Kingston

Moore is currently serving as Medical Officer of Health of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Ontario[7] since 2011 until 26 June 2021.[8]

He is also the Medical Officer of Health of the Department of Emergency and Family Medicine of Queen's University and the Program Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Queen's University.[9]

Educator and Lyme disease research

Moore is a Professor of Family and Emergency Medicine at Queen's University. He performs research on the prevention, detection and surveillance of Lyme disease.[6]

COVID-19 pandemic

As well as serving as Medical Officer of Health for his region, Moore also sat on the COVID-19 vaccine task-force for the province during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario and the province's participation in the nationwide rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.[1]

Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health

On May 31, 2021, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is scheduled to announce Moore as the replacement to Dr. David WIlliams as the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario, assuming the role on June 26, 2021.[8]
