- The information is correct; the heading is somewhat ambiguous. Here "driving side" means side of the road on which all vehicles must travel, which of course is "left". It does not refer to the side of the vehicle most commonly occupied by the driver, which would be "right". Doug butler (talk) 02:14, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Is wikinew.wiki a shady imposter?
I was googling for something in Japanese, and one result was on https://ja.wikinew.wiki, which resembles Wikipedia in appearance, but has cookies, a banner ad (I have an ad blocker, so I don't know what ad), SMS sharing buttons, etc. I searched Google for just the base domain "wikinew.wiki", and initially all the hits were Japanese with the ja subdomain (perhaps detecting that I'm physically in Japan). Googling "en.wikinew.wiki" turned up English pages, but the topics were really obscure (as were the Japanese ones). The site calls itself Wikipedia and uses a color version of your globe logo, a very Wikipedia-like appearance, and even your footer verbatim. But below the footer, it says:
- This Page Is Based On The Copyrighted Wikipedia Article [topic] (Authors); It Is Used Under The Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License. You May Redistribute It, Verbatim Or Modified, Providing That You Comply With The Terms Of The Cc-By-Sa.
When I click on the rumored article (which has a URL of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wiki/[topic] - note the double "wiki"), the resulting real Wikipedia page says, "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name." If I remove the extra "wiki", then I find the real article that wikinew.wiki is mimicking.
I can't tell if they have your header (Article/Talk...Search), because where it would be is obscured by a cookie agreement banner, and I have no interest in agreeing to cookies on a sketchy website. The fact that Google doesn't have any common topics (even though they appear to exist on the site) seems like an attempt to "fly under the radar" - apparently they use robots.txt or something similar to deliberately keep Google from indexing more normal topics. - Thank you for the heads-up, but there is absolutely no reason to be alarmed. There are many, many, many mirrors and forks of Wikipedia around the web. Some of those are just (automated) copy-pastes with ads on top, but that is one of the uses our license allows, and this example probably complies with our license due to the footer.
- The Wikimedia Foundation might have something to say about the use of the Wikipedia globe logo because of trademarks, but otherwise, there is nothing to be done. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 08:28, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Wrong logo
Hello
How do I change the logo on the St Paul's Juniors page. You currently have the old logo for Colet Court which hasn't existed for a long time and it is also still pulling through to our google listings which is proving very unhelpful. I tried to upload the file but it won't let me. It keeps giving me an error message which says we can't determine if this is suitable for upload to wikipedia commons. Can we please resolve this.

Follow this link Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and chose "Upload a non-free file" (then "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." then "This is a logo of an organization, company, brand, etc."). Username list
With the link to "User rights", I used to be able to see in a list all accounts that started with a particular set of characters. Right now, it shows this. If I manually remove the &limit" from the URL, it seems to work, but why does it use that at all? What should I do differently? (If I change the characters after I've removed the limit=, it then does it with a limit of 50.)--Bbb23 (talk) 15:53, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Number of edits to show in recent changes, page histories, and in logs, by default

- @Bbb23, I don't think there's a way to break down the preference (at least not in Special:Preferences), but you should see buttons next to the page selectors at the top and bottom of the list that allow you to select how many users to show

How Do I Retrieve Archived Info that's Disappeared From Wiki?
I have a client (an individual) that has had a wikipedia bio online for years.
While we were working with the wiki team to make some updates, the page just disappeared from online and now says it's 'archived,' and when we inquire w/ the wiki team, no one responds via email, within their portal or via phone.

Editing Wikidata entries
Hi there, I've done some work on the Sotheby's page & want to remove the financial data (revenue, operating income, net income, etc.) from their infobox seeing as they're a private company & that won't be updated anymore. When I go to remove that from the infobox, I'm left with a preview of the data & a link to the Wikidata page. I'm not sure what I need to do to remove said data from the infobox & do not want to blank those pages on Wikidata. Can anyone help? I was directed here from the Sotheby's talk page by another user. - Gold Pieces, there is a way (not documented in the infobox template) to suppress fields you don't want. The example from {{Infobox person/Wikidata}} is:

- StarryGrandma, thank you for the help. I've applied the code in a preview to the Sotheby's page & while it does work, I can't get it to apply to all the financial categories. For some reason, it won't hide the equity field but will apply to all other fields. I've verified that I'm spelling it correctly & typing in the right field. Here's my sample:

- Gold Pieces, suppressfields only works with fields that the template can get from Wikidata. The Wikidata entry for Sotheby's doesn't have equity, so just blanking the field is enough. This could be a problem if someone added an equity value to Wikidata later, so keep equity in the list of fields to be suppressed. StarryGrandma (talk) 18:30, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) § Product reviews says "a strong indication of a sponsored or other relationship is a review that is excessively positive or negative", and they do seem overly positive for me. On the other hand, the first two articles are published in seemingly reliable sources.

- @Kleinpecan: The CNN source you included looks a little bit too commercial and says it doesn’t have the input of CNN’s news staff. The New York source looks better because it says it’s items selected by the editors, although they do also receive compensation. Arabic variants font
Hi, We have an issue here regarding the font selected by the OS/browser to display varieties of Arabic such as South Levantine Arabic (ajp) and North Levantine Arabic (apc). Apparently on Windows 10, using Firefox, Edge, or Chrome, the following words don't look the same and may not be readable depending on the language code used: احنا (ar) احنا (ajp) احنا (apc) // اللَّهْجَةُ الشَّامِيَّة (ar) اللَّهْجَةُ الشَّامِيَّة (ajp) اللَّهْجَةُ الشَّامِيَّة (apc) On MacOS + Chrome/Firefox/Safari everything looks OK. Dear Wikipedia Administration, &/or Editorial staff, &/or ... ??
There's a VERY spartan article about me & my dual political/legal careers. (I am "Robert F. Frazier" [Aka: "Robert F. Frazier, Esq.].)
I attempted on my own to augment this Article with factual biographical/autobiographical material¹. However, after only several months following my posting of the augmentation a volunteer deleted everything I had provided with the wry comment that it "looked like a Curriculum Vitae" or "a job application"!! I'm 72+ years of age (Which this volunteer could have determined from the birth date I had provided) & I am not looking for a job² or any jobs!!
(¹Note ... The material I provided was very similar to what I had observed in numerous other "Wikipedia"[tn] biographies ... Viz. Family background, Parents, Birth Date, other vital statistics & information, Education, Early Career, Mature Career & "Highllights", extra-curricular avocations, etc.)
(²Note ... My last & current jobs are as [1] a self-employed Trial Lawyer, [2] a self-employed politico-military consultant, [3] an Historian & Historical writer, [4] the President of my Class (1971) at Lehigh University, & [5] a Public Speaker for 3rd-party events & an intermittant consultant to broadcasts purporting to be "news".)
QUESTION: Could I please be informed of (1) how my Article can be augmented while avoiding the type of inexperienced interference which I have already experienced, & of (2) how I might be assigned to a more professional (Or, perhaps, that would be a more empathetic & tolerant) volunteer who might be my collaborator (Not exactly a "ghostwriter" but not entirely dissimilar from such either) to bring my Article to a creditable level in terms of being an accurate biography &/or autobiography??

The page on Larry Heinemann does not mention the fact that Larry taught at DePaul University as a "Writer at Large," along with author Ana Castillo. I attended one of Larry's classes in 2002, at DePaul, but I'm not sure how long Larry taught there. I didn't want to add it without the proper research on his tenure. Clarification on citing most followed accounts
In article Koo (social network), the most followed accounts section has a table with 5 most followed accounts. It refers to their respective profiles. I tagged it with external links and OR issues at the top. I'm now wondering if it is allowed? Per WP:EL and WP:NOSOCIAL, it's not allowed. Or is there a provision for this exact purpose? - @DaxServer: Looking at this from an outsider's perspective, I don't see why the section is even necessary for a Wikipedia article. It doesn't seem to convey any notability (especially with the sources used), and could be construed as promotional. Redlink to Heathrow Airport
I've just added a wikilink to Heathrow Airport at Uxbridge College#History, but it is showing and behaving as a redlink. I copied and pasted the article name and it is exactly as above, which is appearing here as a valid blue link, so am a bit baffled. Can anyone advise me? Thanks. - Tacyarg somehow there must have been a non standard character in the link. I copied and pasted the article name and that seems to have fixed it. - @TSventon: I suspected there might be some kind of invisible character there because the wiktext looked correct, so I copied the relevant wikitext from the diff into my browser console and then used a JavaScript one-liner to get a list of all of the characters side-by-side with their Unicode code point. Our page was removed and it should not have been
Hi, Could you lease help us with a page that has been removed. It was for "Brendan P. Keegan". It was recently removed and the wiki editor we hired said. "someone removed it they placed a tag that he isn't notable and the article is promotional (which was not) and Wikipedia removed it. You may request the un-deletion of the page because when I published I am not if someone added anything to it later"

- It is/was not "your page". It was an article about Mr. Keegan and neither you, he, or his company own the article or any of the content therein.
- I did not see the article prior to its deletion, and I am not an administrator and therefore cannot see deleted content, so I can't comment on the state of the article prior to its deletion. However, in general Wikipedia is not interested in what a subject has to say about itself. As an encyclopedia article, it needs to be sourced from reliable sources which are independent of the subject.
- As a matter of procedure, the place to request undeletion of an article is at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, and as a contested proposed deletion such a request would be perfectly in order. There is a certain amount of administrator discretion allowed here, and the request could be denied if the article is deemed to be overly promotional. Further, restoring the article would not exempt it from possibly getting nominated for (re-)deletion via the more formal Articles for Deletion process where the status of the article is put up for discussion by the community at large.

ArcaMax Publishing Inc is not and never has been a "spammer." Our business health relies on our reputation as dependable newsletter mailers for the past 20 years. Is the erroneous description is an intentional act by the editor to mis-categorize our business? This is libel. - Hello, Genifox. I'm sorry about your grandfather. It is possible that Wikipedia could have an article about him, provided that he meets Wikipedia's crietira for notability - roughly, that there are enough reliable published sources, wholly independent of him, that talk about him, to ground an article on. As you have directly expressed your conflict of interest (to be frank, Wikipedia is not interested in what you need, only in its own needs as an encyclopaedia), you would be discouraged from creating it, but not forbidden. But please note that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources. This means that you would need to set aside everything that you know about him, unless it was corroborated by an independent published source.

Email confirmation
After changing my e-mail address, the web server said:
A confirmation email has been sent to the specified email address. Before any other email is sent to the account, you will have to follow the instructions in the email, to confirm that the account is actually yours.
The “confirmation” e-mail did arrive at the new address, but it contains no confirmation actions. Just what to do if the change is bogus. I guess doing nothing would be interpreted as confirmation, but it might be confusing to folks, especially if they’re not skilled in English.

- I just changed my email. It sent me a message which said to press the "Confirm email address" button, which I did. - After reading those response, I went to check whether my address had been changed. That page had a Confirm button that it did not have before. The question, therefore, is not whether to replace the throwaways with a decent article months from now, but whether we'll invest large amounts of editor time, attention at the drama boards, and other resources in producing those temporary throwaways, or just let readers get current news directly from news sources. - Editors who are interested in the long-term state of Wikipedia will avoid such articles until a few months have passed. Those who enjoy the edit conflicts and other interactions, and take pride in being the first to find and cite a good new source, will start work right away. - @DesertPipeline: It looks like Module:Side box adds the "plainlist" CSS class (also used in {{plainlist}}, for instance) to its content (see generated HTML), which can't currently be turned off. TV documentaries and news segments as source
I have two questions about sourcing:
- Is it allowed to use old TV broadcasts of documentaries or news segments as inline-citation source that are no longer available as a video clip on the broadcaster's website? One of the broadcasts I'd like to use is the following: グッド!モーニング (Good! Morning) aired on TV Asahi (Japan) on November 5, 2014, 4:55-8:00 AM (local time). The program is listed on Kakaku.com (first entry), but the information itself that I want to source is not mentioned there. I have a private recording of the news segment, but uploading or linking it would probably violate Wikipedia's policy.
- If it's allowed to use the source, which citation template do I have to use and which information are mandatory to include in the reference?

I just finished moving Karen M. Fischer to the mainspace, but I am not certain how to handle the disambiguation page. The Karen M. Fischer page is about a scientist. Right now 'Karen Fischer' redirects to Death of Karen Fischer and Christian Struwe. That page is a combination of an article about an event (the death) and biographies of Fischer and Struwe. This raises a few questions that I don't know how to handle. (1) Just listing the two Karen Fischer's on a DAB page is easy enough, but what should happen to the redirect? (2) Should there be a different page just for Karen Fischer (the journalist) to distinguish it from the one I just finished (Karen Fisher, scientist)? (3) Are there other issues I have missed here? Sara Ramirez's Wikipedia Page and Infobox Images
So I updated the infobox image of Sara Ramirez because 1) having an outdated image of a person on their wikipage is annoying and 2) I know when I look back at photos of me from before my gender identity change I feel dysphoric and maybe that's not the case for Sara, we may never know, but I think the main photos on information pages should reflect their current appearance.
A user Serols reverted this change claiming it "did not appear constructive" but keeping images of people up to date is good practice and it seems to me like they only reverted this change due bigotry.
Maybe an updated image isn't as important as listing everything they've been in and new information about the person in question, but not changing it seems lazy at best and offensive at worst. Maybe not all images need to be updated if the person looks basically the same but when there's a huge difference in appearance or age it's important.
Sara Ramirez's page isn't the only one that needs to be updated. Elliot Page's Page is another and there's probably a lot more that I haven't seen.— Preceding unsigned comment added by TransDragon (talk • contribs)
- TransDragon Wikipedia has articles, not "wikipages". It is true that the infobox image should reflect the most recent appearance if possible in many(though not all) cases- but it must be done in the proper manner, . Please don't assign motives to other editors that you cannot know, you aren't inside their heads. That something was removed is not in and of itself a sign of bigotry. The caption was problematic, and there could be copyright/licensing issues with the professional image that you attempted to place in the article. It isn't as simple as just grabbing an image off the internet somewhere. Please discuss your concerns on the article talk page. Date of birth of Arnold Majewski
The sources for Arnold Majewski give two dates for his birth: 29 November 1892 and 11 December 1892. This is probably because Majewski was born in 1892 in Tallinn, Russian Empire, which had not yet adapted the Gregorian calendar at the time. How should this be marked in the article? - It's called an infobox, ShUSP 01: there are hundreds of different ones for different kinds of subject. The easiest way to find the right one is often to find a different article on a subject of the same kind that already has an infobox, Edit (or Edit source) that article and copy the entire section at the top that starts

Use of picture on Wikipedia

It is from this page: https://sotaveteraanit.fi/tag/arnold-majewski/. Shown here, standing, with his back to the camera, is Finnish military hero Arnold Majewski during the Continuation War, only moments before he was shot by a Soviet sniper.
I think this would be a good thing to use to illustrate the article about him. Would the image be of use there? And if so, can I upload the image to Wikipedia and/or Commons? okay i get it ! more or less this table is only related to the specific article and is useless beyond the article. So unless i can find a similar comparison article on EM field solvers with the Cenos product mentioned, then i can create a new one for the comparison. Too bad; i thought that this was a generic table, but it biased based upon the samples and time of publication. It doesn't keep current with industry changes. - No, Paclogic, it's not about "the specific article", nor is it about being "based opon the samples and time of publication". It is based on notability, in the special sense that Wikipedia uses the word: broadly, a subject is notable if several people wholly unconnected with the subject have chosen to publish at some length about it in reliable places. Unless and until a subject - say, some software - meets those criteria, then Wikipedia is not interested in it, either in an article of its own, or in a list of items. If Cenos meets those criteria (or the specific ones for software), then somebody can write a Wikipedia article about it (remembering that Wikipedia is basically not interested in anything that the developers or promotoers of the software say or want to say about it, only in independent commentary about it), and then it can be added to lists such as the one you mention. --ColinFine (talk) 11:06, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

- Hello, Kanak Rele. To add to Maproom's answer: Wikipedia is not a place to tell the world about yourself or your projects. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources. So only if such sources exist about the dance school will it be possible to create an article about it: the article will not belong to the school, will not be under the control of the school, and won't necessarily say what the school would like it to say, as it should be based almost 100% on what independent people have published about the school, not on what the school says or wants to say.
- Furthermore, creating a new article that is accepted is very very hard for inexperienced editors. If your school meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then somebody will create an article about it.
- If you wish to go ahead after this caution, then please start by determining whether it meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability (which is what Maproom's answer is about). If it does not, give up. If it does, then read your first article, and be prepared for a gruelling and frustrating time as you put aside everything you know about the school and try to write a neutral, non-promotional draft based on what the independent sources say. --ColinFine (talk) 11:16, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

- Wikipedia does not have mere "pages", it has articles. Those articles are typically written by independent editors, and they summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person(or in your case a notable writer. If you meet that definition, independent editors will take note of your career and choose to write about you. Trying to force the issue by writing about yourself isn't always the best course of action. While not forbidden, autobiographical articles are strongly discouraged, in part because people naturally write favorably about themselves. To be successful in writing about yourself on Wikipedia, you would need to set aside everything you know about yourself and only write based on what others have said about you; most people have great difficulty doing that. Please see Your First Article for more information.

Can I upload a claimed free license files to wikipedia? claimed free license is I have found a files published by free license but I also found other source that has copyright statement as same as copyright law, Can I use it to wikipedia? - Hi Hanna Shanar, if you are looking for a place to publish your own profile then Wikipedia is not the right place unfortunately. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with articles about people that meet Wikipedia's notability standards. Your draft for an article has already been reviewed and declined as there's no sources that would indicate that you do meet these guidelines currently. This might be a classic case of WP:TOOSOON. Also, writing autobiographies is strongly discouraged, so once there is significant coverage it's best to not write the article yourself as well. - @Qat Sad with non free items the lowest practical resolution which allows the item to be used is required. SInce it is substantially smaller where it is deployed may I suggest that you reduce the size to match the article you have used ity on. We ask for wise pragmatism,. How to clear Wikipedia search history
This is a bit odd, but I'm having a technical issue. Wikipedia seems to have memorized a list of six searches I previously carried out on Wikipedia, and displays them to me when I click into the Search box. Once I start typing, it goes to the regular suggestions, but when there's nothing typed into the box yet, the "search history" pops up below.
I'm 98% sure this isn't due to browser cookies - I've cleared all my cookies for all Wikimedia projects from Chrome twice now, and it still happens. I cannot find a Wikipedia setting that is causing this or way to clear it. Oddly, the six searches that appear seem to be static - it's been the same six popping up for the past year or more. How can I clear this and get Wikipedia to "forget" that I've made these searches? Thanks for the help! Ganesha811 (talk) 17:41, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Problem with subheadings
Hi,
I edited this article [3] to add a new entry to the first table.
For some reason I can't understand, the subheading "Under construction or proposed" has been moved to be before the first table, instead of after it (where it was originally).
In the editing window it appears to be in the right place. Why does it now appear in the wrong place and how do I fix this?
