Melamchi River is a tributary of Indrawati River. It originates from the Jugal Himal at an elevation of about 5,875 m (19,275 ft) amsl. It joins with the Indrawati River at Melamchi bazaar.

Morphology

Melamchi River is 41 km (25 mi) long and has a catchments area of 330 km2 (130 sq mi) up to the confluence. The river flows southwards and widens towards the downstream. [1]

Hydrology

The mean annual flow is 9.7 m3/s. The maximum flow is 289 m3/s.

Infrastructure

Incidents

  • In June 2021, the flood in river caused damage in the Melamchi Bazar killing several local and some foreigners [2] [3]
