BroadwayWorld is a theatre news website based in New York City covering Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional, and international theatre productions.[1][2] The website publishes theatre news, interviews, reviews, and other coverage related to theater.[1] The site includes an anonymous online message board for theater fans that Patti Murin in 2016 called "a cesspool of ignorance and negativity".[1]

History

The site was founded in 2003 to cover theater news.[1] As of September 2018, the website had a readership of 5.5 million monthly online visitors and an Alexa PageRank of 16,156 worldwide.[3] Since 2004, BroadwayWorld has produced the 'Standing Ovations' concert series at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, benefitting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.[4][better source needed] The site's founder, Robert Diamond, was awarded the 2014 Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts Education by the Theatre Museum.[5][better source needed] The site also produces annual fan-voted awards and competitions related to various types of production.[2][6][7][8]

BroadwayWorld added a pay transparency rule to their job site in March 2021 due to the advocacy of On Our Team and Costume Professionals for Wage Equity. [9]
