Is Wiktionary allowed as a source?
The recent article LUMI says that "lumi" means "snow" in Finnish, citing Wiktionary as a source. As a native speaker of Finnish, I can say that the claim is definitely true. But can Wiktionary be used as a source? JIP | Talk 01:27, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: Wikitionary is user generated content, and as such, is not usable as a reliable source. RudolfRed (talk) 02:07, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'd argue it also falls under WP:CIRCULAR as it is a sister project. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 02:53, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: I've replaced it with a reference to Severi Alanne's dictionary, which I think should qualify as a reliable source. DuncanHill (talk) 06:47, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

I royally messed up the referencing of Sylvia Rose Ashby, mainly because I wasn't aware of {{sfn}}. Is there anyone who can help me fix it? When I try to correct it, I seem to end up making things worse. Any help would be absolutely gratefully received. I put a tremendous amount of time into this article, it seems a pity it's ruined by my odd referencing system. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 06:16, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- It certainly is unique... It appears that none of your edits to that article have introduced
{{sfn}}
so your question is perplexing. Further, it seems that you are changing the established citation style in contravention of WP:CITEVAR. The article's citation style was introduced by Editor Chris.sherlock at this edit. Before changing the article's citation style you should perhaps consult with that editor in keeping with WP:CITEVAR. - —Trappist the monk (talk) 12:06, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- I have looked at {{Harvp}} and it looks like I need {{Harvtxt}} for the references that cite other sources. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 15:22, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- I am not going to looking at every editor's user page to see if they are using one of several user names and you should not expect me or other editors to do that.
- Yeah, I missed that edit; not sure how but I did. That
{{sfn}}
does not work because cs1|2 templates create the anchor ID from the content of|last=
or its alias|author=
. Because the matching cs1|2 citation uses|author=Crawford, Robert
,{{sfn|Crawford|2018}}
does not match. The fix is to change|author=Crawford, Robert
to|last=Crawford
and|first=Robert
. - —Trappist the monk (talk) 15:34, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- If I hadn’t been bullied, then I would not have felt the need to change my username. Thank you for at least responding. And if you don’t want to check the user page, it’s unclear what I can do about it, other than inform you of who I am. I do expect that if I tell you to check my user page after you make an incorrect assumption, that you do so. I also, interestingly, expect you to actually look at the history if you decide to sardonically say I haven’t done something. Had I not had a one-way IBAN, which I find most unfair, I would have happily edited away anonymously. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 15:39, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

When and why did standards for stubs change?
In the beginning of Wikipedia it used to be fine to have a stub that contains two sentences. These days it seems that such stubs get automatically deleted. When did this policy change. Did it change via an RFC? If so, can anyone link me to the relevant RFC? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 11:49, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- ChristianKl Can you provide some examples of stubs being deleted merely for being stubs? 331dot (talk) 11:52, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @331dot: One recent example I discussed with other people outside of Wikipedia is WELLBY. It's an academic topic, the article had cited one very reputable source with the world happiness report. There are other academic papers about the concept (but not cited in the stub). In 2006 when Wikipedia was still growing in editorship such a stub would likely not have been deleted.
- ChristianKl I would say that Wikipedia is a living breathing entity and the only thing that’s changed is somebody chose to move this particular article back to draft space. The information still exists here World Happiness Report#WELLBY, so Draft:WELLBY may or may not be necessary. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:

- Two-line stubs can still survive provided they cite sources. Lack of any sourcing is a perfectly valid reason to either delete or move an article to draft space. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:23, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- I should note that two line stubs used to be called “substubs”. Anyway, a good example of a stub like this is John Mathieson Anderson, which I recently expanded (slightly). So they do exist. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 16:47, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- @Beeblebrox: If I recall correctly, the lack of sources in the stub was never a valid reason for deletion. The person proposing a deletion was supposed to do at least a cursory search for sources as part of the process, and a lack of any off-wiki sources is a perfectly valid reason for deletion. -Arch dude (talk) 18:17, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Alansplodge: there is a reference here[[1]] from Suffolk.gov.uk referring to "Augustine Priory (site of), Friars Street (Dominican Friary)". At risk of guessing beyond the sources, this suggests that the Augustinian Priory might be the same thing as Sudbury Priory, which already has a perfectly respectable article. If no one can find good grounds that they're different and need two separate articles, the one you'd like to see the back of could easily be deleted. Elemimele (talk) 19:24, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Image formatting
I tried to add an image to Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha#Early life in the United Kingdom, but the infobox has pushed it down the page into the next section. Is there a way of beating this? Alansplodge (talk) 15:40, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Alansplodge: By setting the alignment to 'none' instead of 'left', the photo now sits after the correct section heading, but the text is below, not beside the photo. Better? but not perfect yet. --Verbarson (talk) 22:04, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Adding quotation marks to a long list of song titles
There's a webpage with long list of song titles that aren't in quotation marks. Could anyone please tell me if there's any way to apply quotation marks to each in a fast manner?--Thylacine24 (talk) 17:02, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- @RudolfRed: Thanks, but I think I'll just stick to adding the quotation marks manually.--Thylacine24 (talk) 17:44, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Thylacine24: You don't mention which page you're referring to, so the following suggestion might not apply. Sometimes I will copy the text into another text editor and use find-and-replace rules. For example, for a list of songs where each song has a bullet, replace
*
with* "
will add the quotation marks in the front. For a list of songs where each song has a wikilink, replace[[
with"[[
and]]
with]]"
. Then paste the text back into Wikipedia and save. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 22:26, 10 July 2021 (UTC)- @GoingBatty: Thanks. I've already added the quotation marks to the page, but I'll try your suggestion if I encounter this again.--Thylacine24 (talk) 22:29, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

How to request reassessment?
The article MS Viking Grace is still shown as stub-class at the WikiProject Ships, despite being over 32 kilobytes long with 11 sections and over 40 references. This is because it had only ever been assessed once, in January 2012, when it was 2 kilobytes long and pretty much consisted of one sentence. How does one go about requesting a reassessment? JIP | Talk 16:07, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- JIP You can obviously ask here. I have reassessed it as C based on the WP Finland assessment. The automatic tool suggests B with 37 percent certainty, which suggests it is borderline B/C. TSventon (talk) 16:15, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I see you have edited the template to change the class rating as C. So why does the rendered template say the class rating is "start"? JIP | Talk 16:18, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- JIP I don't know, if you don't get an answer here you could try Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ships or Wikipedia talk:Content assessment. Please ping me if you find out. TSventon (talk) 16:40, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: - it shows as Start class for WP:SHIPS because all the B class parameters are blank. Mjroots (talk) 19:43, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I haven't found any documentation anywhere about what to actually put in those parameters. JIP | Talk 19:53, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Assessment gives Brig as an example of a B class article, so its parameters should be filled in correctly. TSventon (talk) 20:14, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- @TSventon: Apparently leaving them blank is not enough. I made a preview with {{WikiProject Ships|class=C|B1=no|B2=no|B3=yes|B4=yes|B5=yes}} and it showed the template with the class C instead of Start. I did not save the change as I don't feel comfortable assessing my own edits. JIP | Talk 01:37, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: I think it's perfectly fine to assess your own articles-- I do it all the time using the automatic ORES tool in the rater script. If someone disagrees with your assessment, they will surely let you know. The ratings are also only used internally, so they have no impact on POV. --- Possibly ☎ 19:55, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @TSventon: It's not "my" article, I don't own it. I don't work for Viking Line, my only connection to the ship is that I have travelled on it a couple of times. It's just that I've edited the article quite a bit. Anyway, I edited the assessment box to show that references and adequate coverage are not met, but structure, proper grammar and infobox and images are. This is the minimum for inclusion to class C. JIP | Talk 23:14, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP:, I would agree with @Possibly: for ratings up to C. I am sure Possibly meant the article you had partially written, rather than any other meaning of the word own. TSventon (talk) 23:19, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

If someone disagrees with your assessment, they will surely let you know. The ratings are also only used internally, so they have no impact on POV. --- Possibly ☎ 19:55, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Assessment gives Brig as an example of a B class article, so its parameters should be filled in correctly. TSventon (talk) 20:14, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I haven't found any documentation anywhere about what to actually put in those parameters. JIP | Talk 19:53, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: - it shows as Start class for WP:SHIPS because all the B class parameters are blank. Mjroots (talk) 19:43, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- JIP I don't know, if you don't get an answer here you could try Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ships or Wikipedia talk:Content assessment. Please ping me if you find out. TSventon (talk) 16:40, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I see you have edited the template to change the class rating as C. So why does the rendered template say the class rating is "start"? JIP | Talk 16:18, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

User Boxes
Here is my page of User Boxes: User:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page-Intro-10. In the third column on the right, there is a "blank space" (four User Boxes down). This used to be occupied by another User Box. Then, one day, out of the blue ... that User Box just disappeared from my page. I went back to look at "old versions" of my page (looking through the History). And, it seems, that blank space has always been a blank space (even though I absolutely know that that's not the case). I looked at the computer code in the "edit mode" of my page. And -- in relation to the blank white space / missing User Box -- it says "{{User:JohnRussell/wikipedianumedits|89,900}}". When it appeared -- that is, before it disappeared -- the User Box said something like "This user has made 89,900 edits to Wikipedia" (or some such sentiment). What's going on? I am totally confused. My guess is that the "computer code" for that User Box has become invalid or disabled. But, I have no idea what's going on. Please help. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 03:32, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- I can't explain what changed for you, but I believe the correct syntax for that user box is
{{User wikipedianumedits|89,900}}
. That is, the ":JohnRussell/
" part should be removed and replaced with a single space. CodeTalker (talk) 04:51, 12 July 2021 (UTC)- The syntax was correct but CJDOS made a bad edit to {{User edits to Wikipedia}}. I have reverted it.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 14:28, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, all! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 01:39, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
Edit needed to a page of a place where I work
I work at the following company in the link below. We changed our logo and I'm trying to get the old one replaced. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Makrizm (talk • contribs)
- Makrizm Please read the paid editing policy and make the required formal disclosure. Please also review conflict of interest and how to make an edit request; you may make a request at the article talk page, Talk:College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. You may also need to read about uploading images. 331dot (talk) 14:26, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Makrizm: I noticed the logo was already uploaded and added, albeit in the wrong place, so I moved it to the infobox. Please make edit requests in the future and disclose your connection to the conference on your talk page, per the instructions above. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:39, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
I need a article for my business
Hi I have a home security business in South Africa and I thought it's time to have/be on online platforms. Now with that being said I wanted to ask if you would be able to help me — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.144.82.210 (talk • contribs)
- No. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a business directory or venue for promotion. You will need to find another platform for your business. RudolfRed (talk) 16:17, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Page Not Showing Up in Search
So, our page was the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute, which does show up in the search. But we changed our name in 2018, and the Tennessee Language Center (the new name) does NOT show up when you search Wikipedia for it. How do I fix this? Do I need to create a new page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by UTTLC (talk • contribs) 16:17, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have moved the article. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:27, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Also add the correct number of sec titles for kentucky and lsu and tennessee to make sure each have the right number Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rrkulka (talk • contribs)
- @Rrkulka: Please link to the page you're referring to, and you can ask over at that article's talk page first. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:

"Cleo & Cuquin"
Wikipedia
On "Cleo & Cuquin" the character Cleo I believe you misprint you put "he" instead she Cleo is an girl. Thank you. John Burnett (Scranton, PA (USA))
- I looked at the Cleo & Cuquin article and didn't see any instances of he being used to refer to Cleo. Deor (talk) 18:15, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- Deor, the article has been subject to vandalism, which seems to be normal for children's television programs. I have corrected the original channel to Clan, but there are probably more errors. TSventon (talk) 21:50, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Russian speaking editors Draft:IVMED
Hi! Do we have any Russian speaking editors afoot to see whether this article exists on the Russian wikipedia and/or should be tagged as such, or how this should otherwise be handled? Google translate tells me this is probably a G11, but give that I can't actually read it, I don't want to act rashly. Thanks! Star Mississippi 18:30, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Star Mississippi: It's a fertility clinic in Kiev, and is likely not notable, based on the English coverage I can see. I also searched the .RU Wikipedia and couldn't find it. It would be spelled like this: Айвимед. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:15, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- It is actually spelt "IVMED" not "Айвимед" (see https://infertility-kiev.com/uk/) and ru:IVMED appears to have been deleted four times today. --ColinFine (talk) 19:28, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you ColinFine. Super helpful. Guessing if the content was deleted four times there, our article wouldn't be helpful to them either. Star Mississippi 20:18, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
And this is resolved (thanks Liz and belated thanks TimTempleton. Earlier ping fail Star Mississippi 00:14, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

I'm not up on the policies or guidelines for lists... could someone take a quick pass at List_of_washi to remove those that do not belong? My initial inclination was to remove everything that is not a wikilink -- is that correct? --- Possibly ☎ 19:48, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
who is the present caliph of Islam
The caliph of islam is not Mirza Masroor Ahmed as this is false news and an insult to muslims around the world . Please take down this wrong information as this will discredit wikipedia , it is laughable because he is not even a muslim but hurtful that someone can make such false claims and you wikipedia did not do your homework. Please remove this false information instantly.
- Wikipedia has no control over Google search results, please contact Google for assistance. See WP:CALIPH. 331dot (talk) 21:33, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- It is not Wikipedia that is claiming Mirza Masroor Ahmed is the caliph of Islam, it is Google. You should contact Google about this, though I very much doubt they'll lift a finger. See WP:CALIPH. JIP | Talk 23:54, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

help in renaming a page to publish
Dear reader, We need help to change the title of a page "Madinah.Award" so that we can publish it. Please we need to change the title of the page. As the archived help pages recommend to use the Move tool, which we don't have. please help with this.
thank you in advance— Preceding unsigned comment added by Madinah.Award (talk • contribs) 22:13, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- اسلام عليكم, Madinah.Award. The move function is not available until your account has been in existence for four whole days, and made ten edits. But in any case, your sandbox is wholly inappropriate for English Wikipedia, because it is in Arabic, not English. If you want to create an English article on the subject, please see Translate us. But please also note that your sandbox does not appear to have any references at all, and an article without references is not acceptable at English Wikipedia. In addition, your user name is not acceptable in English Wikipedia, because it appears to represent an organisation. I'm guessing that you are here to publicise your awards: please also be aware that promotion of any kind is not permitted on English Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 22:33, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Madinah.Award: - please do not post requests for help in multiple places, as you did at the Teahouse and here. You're getting the same answer, but making twice as much work for other volunteers. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:01, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Here's a challenging question
I was a former donor and am now seriously disappointed in the bias you have developed and the misdirection of information you have begun to prescribe to your clients, customers, users. As you have become 100% biased and told how to misinform and lie to the public, it is my duty to discuss with my audience your failings and deliberate false information. I will be recommending the use of your services be set aside as fully untrustworthy.
This email has been copied and will be sent to alternative databases expressing my views of your criminal activities of spreading false information.
