It is used often by people of color to side step bias and prejudice algorithms which sensor antiracist work. It's not a deragatory term meant to belittle white people. Most of the TikTokkers and content creators using the term are doing antiracist grassroots education on TikTok including many yt creators like @jolly_good_ginger. Lots of white folx even use this term on their dating profiles and social media. It is not a racial slur like whitey.). "Whitey" is a contemptuous and derogatory slang term for a white person, often used in a pejorative manner.[1] The level of contempt implied by the term varies.

During Barack Obama's 2008 US presidential campaign, a hoax was promoted that his wife Michelle Obama had been recorded "railing against 'whitey'", which she denied, saying, "That’s something that George Jefferson would say."[2][3] In Saturday Night Live's notorious 1975 "Racist Word Association Interview" skit, Richard Pryor's character uses "whitey" as his response to Chevy Chase's character's prompt of "negro".[4]
