K. Lakshminarayanan was minister of Education, Revenue, Tourism and Art & Culture under the Chief Minister Honorable N. Rangaswamy's government from 2001 to 2005.He served twice as Member Of Legislative Assembly from Cassicade and three tenures from Raj Bhavan (Union Territory Assembly constituency) constituency from 2001 to Current Election.He served as Pro-Term Speaker in 15th Puducherry Legislative Assembly. Early life

K. Lakshminarayanan was born in Kanchipuram Tamilnadu, the son of Kannan, and Krishnaveni. He did his B.Sc., (Botany) from Loyola College, Chennai, LLB from Dr. Ambedkar Govt. Law College, Puducherry

Political career

• Served in Student Congress (NSUI) Union from 1980 to 1984. • Active member of State Youth Congress when Sri Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister., Underwent training as Youth Co-Ordinator for one month under the Indian Youth Congress Training Program got up as an ambitious program of late Sri Rajiv Gandhi. • Worked as full time party worker in State Youth Congress Wing from 1984 serving as Co-Ordinator. • From 1987 was General Secretary of State Youth Congress Committee, Puducherry. • Took a delegation of 100 youth congress office bearers from Puducherry to New Delhi to meet Former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhiji in 1989. • As active Trade Union Executive, participated in the International Leadership Training Program held at Singapore for one month in 1993 as nominee of INTUC from India. • State President of INTUC from 1991 to 2005. • State Advisory Committee Member from 1985 to 1996 in various Govt Committees. • Non-official Vice-Chairman of Puducherry Khadi and Village Industries Board from 1987 to 1990.



Notable achievements

• As Education Minister, from 2001 to 2005 introduced various innovative schemes in the Education sector including the novel Morning Breakfast Scheme to the school students (first in the country) named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi. • Education board for Puducherry was established 2004 under his minister ship. • Introduced Financial Assistance Scheme to the students admitted in Medical and Engineering colleges making Puducherry as the first State in the country to do so. • As Minister for Tourism and Culture, successfully got Puducherry inducted in the heritage site map of the country, projecting Aricamedu with Roman Trade Links; brought many centrally sponsored program to the U.T of Puducherry. • Instrumental in setting up Khadi and Village units all over the U.T.of Puducherry.
