How to ask a question
  • Search first. It's quicker, because you can find the answer in our online encyclopedia instead of waiting for a volunteer to respond. Search Wikipedia using the searchbox. A web search could help too. Common questions about Wikipedia itself, such as how to cite Wikipedia and who owns Wikipedia, are answered in Wikipedia:FAQ.

  • Be specific. Explain your question in detail if necessary, addressing exactly what you'd like answered. For information that changes from country to country (or from state to state), such as legal, fiscal or institutional matters, please specify the jurisdiction you're interested in.
  • Include both a title and a question. The title (top box) should specify the topic of your question. The complete details should be in the bottom box.
  • Do your own homework. If you need help with a specific part or concept of your homework, feel free to ask, but please don't post entire homework questions and expect us to give you the answers.

NFS Carbon graphics

Hello, I just installed the new Need for speed Carbon game. Every time I run it, first it doesn't show the intro video, but i hear the sounds and then in the game everything is made up of blocks and nothing is understandable. My computer meets the system requirements for the game. What can I do? --(Aytakin) | Talk 00:06, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

U sure you met the specifications for the graphic card and everything else? Most of the time, the prob is caused by graphic cards that aren't suitable for the game --K.Z Talk Vandal Contrib 02:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i have a GForce 4 and that's what is required --(Aytakin) | Talk 02:32, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something might have gone wrong with the installing. The installation might have been corrupted. Does restarting ur computer solve anything? If it doesn't, try checking the installed folders. Some games, such as the NFS Most Wanted have videos in the WMF or more rarely, in the AVI or MPEG formats. Try using a player to play these files. If the videos can not be accessed or doesn't work, try reinstalling. If they do work, check ur direct X. Just wondering, but what windows edition do u have? --K.Z Talk Vandal Contrib 02:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds like a Direct X issue. Ensure that you have the latest version. If you can access the game options, you might also want to lower resolution / detail level etc, lower everything to the minimum, make sure it works then, then turn it up a little at a time until it goes to slowly or blocky. If you have bought a legitimate copy, which, of course, I am sure you have, you can also contact the game's manufacturers, who will have a technical support line for this kind of issue. Proto:: 12:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it is a Direct X issue, it would be pretty peculiar. NFS games usually install the compatible direct x before it installs the game. If none of the following work, i suggest you have the game checked out by an expert. This is a long shot...but could ur computer hace a virus or malware of any sort? Some viruses can disable specific files activating, or change the way it works. --K.Z Talk Vandal Contrib 02:19, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fate of Norns

Are there any published covers of Amon Amarth's song "Fate of Norns," or any other songs from that album, with clean vocals? That's my only complaint, and apparently a common one, against an album with excellent lyrics, excellent riffs and excellent drumming. NeonMerlin 04:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

News archives for films

I've generally edited for upcoming films, but I'd like to branch out into films that have been out for a while. I've used IGN, ComingSoon.net, SuperHeroHype.com for film articles on which I work now, but when it comes to older films, such as Schindler's List, there is less information present online. I have access to Access World News through my college account, but I was wondering if there were any archives out there that solely covered films, or at least point me in the direction of print reliable sources. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 04:47, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On imdb, there's a menu on the left side of the page for every film. The category Awards and Reviews has links to external reviews and to newsgroup reviews. The page on Schindler's List, for example, links to lists of external reviews and newsgroup reviews of that particular movie. ---Sluzzelin 13:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kimera and the Operaiders

Hallo,

I am looking for info regarding the Korean Soprano, Kimera and the Operaiders, who sang in the 80's or 90's. Who is she? Where did she come from? What happened to her? When was she born?

Please help if you can. It would be much appreciated.

Martin du Plessis Bournemouth United Kingdom.

(email address redacted to prevent spam) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.44.86.85 (talk) 22:19, 15 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hello Martin, this is from the French Wikipedia's page on Kimera: Kimera seems to be a descendant from the royal Silla dynasty and was born on January 10, 1958 in Daegu (South Korea). She performed as a solist on Korean television from the age of twelve. In the late 1970s she went to Paris to study literature and classical singing. Her ability to effortlessly tackle parts ranging from contralto to lyrical coloratura soprano was noticed among Parisian jurors when she received a unanimous vote for the Diplôme Supérieur d'Art Lyrique in 1984.
That same year, she married Raymond Nakachian, a rich industralist, and eventually settled in a luxurious estate, the Villa Mélodie, in Marbella (Spain). Her career took another leap that year when she founded Kimera and the Opéraiders and recorded her first album with the London Symphony Orchestra - it's title was The Lost Opera (English Wikipedia has an article on it) and it sold 2.5 million copies. The music and performances consisted of famous arias accompanied by drums, electronic instruments, dancers, light-shows, and fireworks.
In 1987, the car driving Kimera's oldest child Mélodie to school was ambushed, and the girl was kidnapped. Her ransom was set at thirteen million US Dollars. The parents weren't able to raise this amount of cash in due time, but one of the kidnappers carelessly lost his wallet while jogging, which eventually led to the perpetrators' arrest and Mélodie's liberation. This eleven-day drama seems to have been a huge media event in "Europe" (though I can't recall it).
Kimera continued to work into the 1990s, performing Ravel's Boléro at the Bolshoi Ballet in 1991, for instance, but her performances and recordings became rarer and rarer since the kidnapping and stopped altogether around 1994. Her style has been criticized and called a 'vulgarisation of classical music' by purists; on that note she has been compared to Richard Clayderman and the Rondo Veneziano. Kiméra appears to be known mainly in South Korea and Europe (particularly Spain). Audio or video-recordings of her work seem to be rare and finding them is difficult.
Again, this is all from the French Wikipedia and I haven't checked, let alone double-checked, any of it. ---Sluzzelin 12:33, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OMG... I'm Korean, and I always thought she was French. :S (To be truthful, I've only seen her on TV once or twice when I was very young.) --Kjoonlee 15:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Empty gun, or not?

In Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor, Sergey Golovko tell's Jack Ryan that the gun he held to Ryan's head when Ryan helped the KGB chairman escape in The Cardinal of the Kremlin was empty. However, in The Bear and the Dragon, Golovko is thinking about how great a man Ryan is and it says he was glad he had the sensibility not to pull the trigger in the abovementioned incident. Therefore, when Golovko told Ryan that the gun was empty, was he lying, or did Clancy forget it had been previously revealed to be unloaded? Crisco 1492 09:11, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

<opinion> knowing Clancy, he'd as soon forget his first-born child. Having Golovko fudging the truth would definitely add more intrigue to the plots of the novels, while still leaving the first novel relevant to its considerations.</opinion> V-Man737 09:50, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although saying you held an empty gun to someone's forehead isn't a fudge if its actually loaded. However, it would fit with Golovko's character, since he seems to enjoy yanking Ryan's chain a little when they are enemies, but is reasurring when they are friends. Thanks! Crisco 1492 07:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't mean it to be a harsh term, cuz I personally think Golovko's pretty cool (though I would like to see Broderenko (s.p error, sorry, not sure) in more books). Sorry, just that I see fudging as a synonym for a white lie. Crisco 1492 09:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The McPherson Tape Film - Fact or Fiction?

Firstly thank you for answering this question in advance.

I recently saw the film The McPherson Tape about an alien abduction video taped on a home camcorder during a thanksgiving dinner.

I would like to know if this is Blair Witch Project type film, i.e. designed to be fake, or is it claimed to be a true story, or even based on a true story?

Thanks again!

Information on Fyfe Robinson

Hi there,

Possible alternative spelling would be Fife Robinson

Can anyone tell me when this gentleman died? He was a UK radio/TV broadcaster in the late 1960s (and probably at least 50+ years of age then) so I'm fairly sure he must have passed on.

I've tried Google and Wikipedia searches without finding anything toher than an oblique reference.

Thanking you in anticipation

GuyAdams 14:03, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After a few searches, it seems his name is Fyfe Robertson (I can see how "Robertson" can sound like "Robinson" with a Scottish accent). Another three or four searches later (and yes, this took me some considerable time; I can see why you came here), I found this obscure article narrowing down the date of his death. As the article is dated April 26, 1997, and the author indicates being notified of "the tenth anniversary of his death" on Friday (the 25th), I'd say my best guess is that our man died on April 25 of 1987. *whew* ^_^ V-Man737 14:44, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Helps to start in the right place doesn't it (mea culpa). Top man.

Glad it helped! The turning point was in this Google search when I came across a forum where people had made the same search, and one of the searchers announced that the man they were looking for was actually Robertson, lending more success to their search. After all my searching, and reading all the many praising remarks about the man, I must say I've come to respect and admire him without even seeing him at work! V-Man737 15:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His name was actually Fyffe Robertson. His IMDB entry indicates that his last work in a tv play was in 1980. -- Arwel (talk) 00:57, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the BFI website FYFE Robertson died 04/02/1987 http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/individual/88414. His name was actually James Fyfe Robertson.

Even though I was a callow youth at the time I well remember his wry outdoor news pieces. Like many TV journalists (Cliff Michelmore, Alan Whicker, Trevor Philpott) he made his name on the BBC's flagship early evening news programme Tonight. There's info on it here: http://www.museum.tv/archives/etv/T/htmlT/tonight/tonight.htm and here http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/adults/tonight/tonight.htm

What's the name of this movie?

I saw half of a movie recently, but I don't know the name. It was set in China (I'm pretty sure the movie was made in China) during the Civil war/Communist take over. The main character was a guy who used to be addicted to gambling, but then he became part of a shadow puppet show. He is involved in the fighting, and returns home to see his town run by authoritarian communists. I think it is a well-known movie, but I have no idea what is was called. Thanks GhostPirate 14:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Band / song identification

Hi, a friend made me a mix tape in 1987 with a song on it she couldn't identify. It starts with an electric piano intro, and the opening lyrics are:

"This isn't my city, no place for us here Hardly no money..."

The chorus seems to be

"I'm going, going up the hill and straight to death"

It's a mournful and pretty song, and all the other bands on the mix tape were punk, but this group sounded more goth. The lead singer is male and has an English accent (sorry, no idea what region). I've searched for identification using the chorus, and the opening lines, with no success. Any ideas? Thanks very much for any help you can give. Novemberjane 03:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cyber Style

 – Header added in 2021 to separate clearly different topics --Maresa63 Talk 15:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Someone at the help desk told me to seek help here, so here's the deal. I REALLY need another admins' help with this.

The current conversation I've had with another admin regarding this subject can be found here. Now, He and I had a bit of a dispute in December (a link in the section specified in the link will provide that conversation too), and the end result regarding sources was that in the case of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, episodes could be considered viable sources, but only when backed-up by a written, secondary source.

Now I've asked him if I could recreate a page he's deleted twice in the past (both unfairly in my opinion, but that's besides the point). He claimed at first I had no source, then that the page would be based on original research. The page in question is "Cyber-Series". In the anime in question, this refers to a series of cards with "Cyber" and "Cyberdark" in their names. The page as I would like to create it would refer to the two's relation to yin and yang, the dojo in which using the cards was trained, and the character who uses them and furthermore develops to reflect them during the series.

Now, I have a written source, and I have already been told I could use the episodes as a source with a secondary source. Also, I am fully prepared to offer citations to the episodes in question. And it is states in the series itself that the two "Cyber" cards are yin and yang, and that the character desires the Cyberdark cards to match his new, evil personality. Now, there is no original research involved, and I have both a secondary and a primary source, both of which are official. Do I have adaquate grounds to re-create this page? Drake Clawfang 06:24, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be a good idea to let us look at the sources, perhaps by linking to a website that has them. Keep in mind that for a source to be considered legit, it should fulfil the key criteria discussed in WP:RS. If the key fits the lock, the lock should open. -_- V-Man737 06:48, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The official site is "TV Tokyo" (I'm sorry, I don't have an exact address). Also, back in December I was told on the Help Desk I can use the episodes of the anime of which I speak as primary sources, as long as I observe the Neutral POV rulings, which I always have. Take this quote from "BigNate37"

"To summarise, yes you can use the episodes and official site as sources, but you would not be able to write more than a stub without using reliable secondary sources or introducing serious WP:NPOV and WP:OR problems"

Thus, again, where is the problem? Drake Clawfang 06:54, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Panic! - the TV Show

I recall being hugely taken in by a 1/2 hr weekly tv drama series in the late 1950's called "Panic." I still recall episodes vividly but I have never met anyone who recalls it.

Does anyone out there have any recollection of this show? It's opening logo was a slowly swirling mix of jet black liquid swirling around a white liquid, not mixing, more like oozing eerily. I would love to track down whatever happened to this show.

thanks07:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)~~

I'm not old enough to remember it, but the Internet Movie Database has this entry for it, which lists 17 episodes from March 5 to July 2, 1957, skipping one week; another 12 episodes from April 6 to June 22, 1958, and a 30th episode on September 7, 1958. This agrees with the data for the show at the TV.com web site. Both sources also note that the show was retitled "No Warning" in its second season.
In The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows, 1999 edition, "Panic" and "No Warning" are considered as two separate series, and considering that the only continuing cast member was the narrator, that makes some sense. They show "Panic" as running from March 5 to September 17, 1957. It ran on NBC at 8:30 (that'd be Eastern Time) on Tuesdays. For "No Warning", they show it running from April 6 to September 7, 1958, on NBC at 7:30 on Sundays. This source does not give episode lists and does not normally talk about how many new episodes and how many reruns were in a season, and I'm not sure if reruns had become customary yet. It seems possible that there were additional episodes not included in the lists I cited; the long gap between June 22 and September 7 and the skipped week in 1957 both certainly suggest that the lists are incomplete. Anyway, the book describes it as an anthology drama series where "at the outset of each episode... an individual was put into a sudden crisis situation... [and] the remainder of each episode delineated how well he reacted and coped with the crisis."
--Anonymous, January 18, 2007, 08:48 (UTC).
According to the 2003 version, Panic involved threats of violence, while No Warning involved non-violent crises. User:Zoe|(talk) 20:38, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know exactly what music you're refering to. I once asked this question a few months ago, but never got a satisfactory answer. Ever since, whenever I hear the music, I always try to find out what it is, but to no avail. I know not yet which music this is. But it's definately not Muzak or elevator music. It seems to be alone in its own "genre".--Codell [ Talk] 02:42, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would recommend looking into the "Ultralounge" family of CDs. The track you may be looking for could be "Holiday for Strings" by The Voices of Walter Schumann or "Gay Spirits" by David Rose and his Orchestra. See Ultralounge Vol. 3 - Space Capades for possible sample on Amazon or Chapters.ca. Regardless.. even if it isn't exactly what you're looking for, I imagine its REALLY close. Play a tune on-line

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. It could come under various headings. I'm trying to learn a piece for a choir. I'm looking for a website where I can type in a short piece of music manuscript (no chords, just single notes, and say twenty notes at a time) and hear it played back, much like a piano keyboard. I am not much good on a piano so it takes me too long to work out how a melody ought to sound. I tried Musipedia, but that only seems to allow me to key in and play back a very short string, and only once as the page disappears upon playback(!) LimeWire

I was wondering about the specific legal issues regarding the use the use of LimeWire in the United States. I was told that it was only illegal to share copyrighted material and that it was OK to download it. Is this true? —Akrabbimtalk 03:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, in the US, it is illegal to download copyright music. If u want to share or download music or videos, use Frostwire, which isn't based in the US and therefore not entitled to US laws. However, you are allowed to share music if the music isn't copyright, or the author has relinquished the copyright laws on the music. Most modern music is copyright. See United States copyright law --|K.Z|Z.K| Do not vandalize... 04:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Most modern music is copyrighted (it's a verb). Anyway, it's legal to share material you own the copyright of. But it doesn't matter if you share it or just download it. If you don't pay for the music, it's usually illegal. - Mgm|(talk) 09:48, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miner smuggling

Yes, it would be "smuggling a minor" (or if they were talking about miners, it'd be a pun on "minor"), but rather than ages of consent, the likely reference would be to the Mann Act. --Anonymous, January 20/07, 01:40 (UTC).

I was wondering, since the article was deleted, if someone could give me an explanation on the Patient, the 'character' of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade. --NapalmRiot 20:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is not sourced, and therefore unverified, but the information on the page before it was deleted was:
  • The Patient is the main character from New Jersey band My Chemical Romance's third album, The Black Parade. The album tells of the patients struggle for redemption after discovering he will die from heart complications within two weeks. He experiences regret (Cancer), anger (Mama), and, finally, hope (Famous Last Words). The album never explicity states he dies from his cancer, in fact it even hints at the possibility that it wasn't him but a loved one dying all along.

Pentatonic music scale

Which version of the pentatonic scale is the most culturally universal or most cute or easiest to teach kids or easiest to improvise with?--Sonjaaa 03:41, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From pentatonic scale: "One of the most common pentatonic scales, sometimes also called a primary pentatonic scale (set form 5-35, 02479), can be constructed in many ways. A simple construction takes five consecutive pitches from the circle of fifths; starting on C, these are C, G, D, A, and E. Transposing the pitches to fit into one octave rearranges the pitches into the major pentatonic scale: C, D, E, G, A." Aside from the fact that it is chosen arbitrarily (and the set form is the same no matter what anyway), this pentatonic scale seems to be preferred in most major musical cultures, with the possible exception of its competitor, the C major pentascale. V-Man737 04:05, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have thought the easiest to teach children, if you have access to keyboard instruments, is just to play a scale on the black notes. Starting on Gb (F#) seems to be recommended in the pentatonic scale article. Skittle 22:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comedy song - title and artist

File:RolfHarris.jpg
Rolf Harris.

I am looking for a song I saw on an Australian television stand-up comedy show a few years ago (maybe over 10). I think it is called 'I need you', but I can't even be sure of that. The artist wore glasses and played the guitar. The lyrics I can remember are as follows:

Partial of one verse: 'I need you like a cuppacino needs froth. I need you like a candle needs a moth - if it's gonna burn it's wings off! I need you, oh yes i do'

Partial of another verse: 'I need you like King Arthur needed a table, and it was more than just a table for one'

Looking for religious song in Spanish

Hello,

when I was in elementary school, a nun came over and taught us a Spanish religious song, glorifying the Lord. We just had to memorize it and sing it (we didn't know Spanish and in fact, I think we hadn't learned much French either). I would like to find it again. Since I don't speak Spanish, it will be hard, but it went something like "Se sient aqui, se sent aqui, se sent aqui, el espiritos de dios se sient aqui si los hombres de la tierra glorifican el señor..." and then it was repeated but then it was "set ama qui" or something like that in the beginning. Can you help me? Thanks!Evilbu 22:41, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese Yoda

How does Yoda speak in Japanese versions of Star Wars, considering how he speaks in the English sense is relatively similar to Japanese (verb at the end, nouns at the start, "To sleep, I must go"). Does he speak either backwards (in the "English" order "I must go to sleep) to preserve his "odd" speaking style for the Japanese viewer, or does he speak like anyone else? Bullshit! "aims to debunk an array of popular misconceptions". Some of their episode descriptions or titles can be vague. Such as "Death Inc." (they're not debunking death or attempting to do a 28 minute show on being in favor or against). I would guess they speak of those president's vices, similar to the "Holier Than Thou" show, where they talked about Gandhi, Mother Theresa, and... somebody else. Abraham Lincoln he ended slavery and won the civil war i cant find a reason why they would say hes was a bad president. and Theodore Roosevelt built the Panama Canal.

Like what do you have to do to even consider getting sponsered or if you already are sponsered what do you have to do to get a movie going or television show like what is the proccess??. thank you 06:07, 23 January 2007 (UTC)~ Nick S

Well, according to the Filmmaking article, the steps are as followed:
  • Development
  • Pre-production
  • Production
  • Post-production
  • Distribution

Hope that helps. Read the filmmaking article if you want more info. :) --theblueflamingoSpeak 08:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sponsorship can occur at any of these stages; the Beyblade cartoon series will have been funded by Hasbro from the day that it was suggested, Bond films gain their sponsorship during pre-production and production, while something like Coronation Street was probably only sponsored by Cadburys during distribution. Promoting a concert

Does anyone here have any knowledge/experience of putting on small-scale rock/acoustic concerts? There is an artist who will be touring Europe in the spring and I would really like to have him play in my home city. He is just one guy with a guitar, not very well known in Europe yet. Most of the small-sized venues in my city don't promote their own shows, they hire out the space. So it seems to me that my two main expenses would be the hire of the space, and the artist's fee. Then I would need to recoup that money in ticket sales in order to break even (which is all I'm looking to do; I don't care about making a profit). Obviously I would need to choose the venue carefully - right part of town, not too small/big, and make sure that it has all the technical equipment to enable my artist to perform. What other factors do I need to take into consideration?

Some other questions that occur to me are:

  • Do most artists also expect to be put up in a hotel for the night at the promoter's expense, or do they pay for their own accommodation?
  • To stimulate ticket sales the show would obviously have be advertised well in advance - but would the venue do this, or would it be my responsibility?
  • What about bar takings - does the promoter/artist get some of these, or are they retained by the venue?

Any experiences gratefully received - many thanks. --Richardrj talk email 09:03, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you are renting the venue, I would think that they wouldn't care if you made any money or not as long as they get their rental fee. Therefore, I wouldn't expect them to advertise the show for you. Also, it may be a CYA (Cover Your Ass) thing with venues. If they were going to promote it and then nobody showed, you could sue them for not doing a good enough job of promoting the show, promoting it on the wrong radio stations, etc. I've never put on a concert so that's just what my cynical side tells me. Dismas|(talk) 09:21, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know A LOT about this topic. We should talk offlist.
  1. The first thing you should do is contact the artist to find out if s/he is willing to play your city, and what the fee would be. That will help determine the size of the venue. Ask if s/he would consider a profit share, although that would necessitate you giving a good plan as to how you are going to promote the concert, and it might include a rider on the part of the artist that s/he can cancel if you don't do a certain amount of pre-concert sales. Ask her/him for technical requirements, but make it clear that you are a small scale operation; s/he might have a 'bare' set design vs a more elaborate one. When you are talking to venues, make sure you get things like the actual size of the stage, times for setup, whether you have to pay a fee to set up if it's during open hours, if there are stairs to negotiate, etc. The artist may bring most of her/his equipment, make sure the venue has the proper outlets to deal with big electricity suckers.
  2. Accomodation and per diems are negotiable. Lots of small artists will accept private accomodation (your spare room or even your sofa). You needn't go overboard; unless it's Eminem or Loreena McKennitt, they won't be expecting much. Believe me, I've been on BOTH sides.
  3. Most venues will do some advertising, but if you want good sales you should expect to do some too, on your own dime. It's not true that venues are just happy with your rental fee; they want to fill their venue for bar sales, and they want to preserve their reputation. But don't expect too much. This is also something you can discuss with the artist; some artists have mailing lists, lists of stores where their records are sold, etc. They might be doing their own promotion, and/or they can coordinate with you.
  4. House percentages (whether ticket sales or bar) are on a venue by venue and even gig by gig basis. The venue is more likely to split with you if you're bringing them someone they are pretty sure will fill the place and/or if you show you're doing a lot to promote the gig.
Hope this helps, email me if you want more help. Anchoress 09:34, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Who is the artist anyway hm? :) Because if you are going to try and get Eduard Lodewijk van Halen. well. I would be proud of you. Or you could settle for Paul Gilbert. X [Mac Davis] (How's my driving?) 00:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

templates for certain subjects?

Greetings,

Are there templates for certain topics, like music bands? I noticed most of the music bands entries look the same. Is there a template I can easily use to do this? Or do I have to copy the formating from an existing entry to create a new one?

Thanks, Jim —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Neffland (talkcontribs) 21:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

fairly odd parents

I swear I remember seeing a promo for an episode of The Fairly OddParents in which Timmy sang about the joys of being a boy. I have seen all the episodes and movies and cannot place that song snippet. I looked in all the episode lists I could think of and found nothing, meaning either that episode was shown once and yanked (maybe not at all) or I totally daydreamed this. It was before or during the same season where Timmy wishes all the halloween costumes were real. Does anyone else remember this? This has been driving me nuts for years. Thanks! 22:02, 23 January 2007 (UTC)~~ ubercreatrix

I know you asked this a few days ago and it was deleted as being unsuitable for the Ref Desk. Strictly speaking, it probably is, although it's also fairly harmless IMHO. (It'll probably get deleted again.) But your question is so vast. Do you mean songs written especially for films, or songs which already existed and were added to films? Off the top of my head, some of my favourites are Flashdance by Irene Cara, Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, Mrs Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel, Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon... the list could go on and on. --Richardrj talk email 23:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A number of business-related drama movies appeared around 1958, although they I'm not sure how well they fit the idea you have in mind. Patterns (1956) and Executive Suite are about power struggles in big companies; The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit is about a man's moral choices in his career. For that matter, so is the comedy-drama The Apartment. No, I have no idea which ones are available on video. --Anonymous, January 25, 2007, 17:41 (UTC).
In the Company of Men is a wonderful film about corporate culture, though business its not the primary subject of the plot. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room documents a sorry attempt at playing the market, and Rogue Trader is a not-that-great morality tale. All have at least one "big-swinging-dick". The name Arrested Development

Was the TV show Arrested Development named in reference to the early 90s hip hop group, or was "arrested development" simply a common phrase used in other contexts, predating either one? I know that the band sued the Fox network recently; does that mean it was really their idea? I would like to see some evidence about whether or not the name of the TV show is a deliberate reference to the band. --Grace 03:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not, and if you watch the final episode, that'll prove it to you. Not going to spoil anything here, though. The general idea is that the characters, except perhaps Michael and George Michael, are in a state of immaturity. Buster's a weakling that attempts to make up for his parent issues by joining the Army, Gob's a greedy blowhard, Lucille's a self-centered snob, and so forth. They're all stuck in some sort of child-mode. --Wooty Woot? contribs 03:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All that, and the puns go on: George Bluth Sr. was arrested and charged for defrauding the investors of the Bluth Company, a business dealing in the development/real estate trade. The expression arrested development in the sense of a state where development has stopped prematurely is likely older than the band or the series. ---Sluzzelin 06:27, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I just read that the band had the same idea you did, and sued FOX Networks over the show. This is referenced in one of the episodes: When talking about the Motherboy dance, the narrator says he is legally required to make the distinction between the dance and the band named Motherboy. ---Sluzzelin 07:22, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross a Ballad?

I need to find a Ballad for a Theatre Class & considering the definition of Ballad includes "story or poem, put to song," would the song "I'm Coming Out" be considered a ballad? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.235.247.218 (talk) 04:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

From the article on Ballad:
"In the 20th Century, "ballad" took on the meaning of a popular song "especially of a romantic or sentimental nature" (American Heritage Dictionary). Casting directors often divide songs into two categories: "ballads" (slower or sentimental songs) and "up" tunes (faster or happier songs).
In my book, I'm Coming Out is not a ballad, it's too up and funky. Sticking with Diana Ross, Touch Me in the Morning is an example of a ballad. ---Sluzzelin 05:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nonetheless? Are you saying your right hemisphere normally isn't susceptible to schmaltz? By the way, there are also 20th century songs carrying the word ballad in their title without being ballads in that modern sense. The original title of Brecht and Weill's Mack the Knife, for instance (Die Moritat von Mackie Messer), sometimes is translated to The Ballad of Mack the Knife. Ballad is used in the older sense of a Bänkelsang or Cantastoria here (see also murder ballad), as opposed to the more modern definition of a "slower or sentimental song" given above. ---Sluzzelin 16:50, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bjork song

There's a song by Björk which has a weird video (I know, all her videos are weird, but bear with me). Björk drives some sort of massive lorry while singing. The lorry has a large mouth inside its bonnet which oozes green smoke, and at one point, Björk gets a toothache and goes to see a dentist, who happens to be a gorilla. At the end, she plants a bomb (?) in an art gallery which has mirrors everywhere and runs out. Unfortunately, I've forgotten what the song is called, and can't seem to find it anywhere in Björk discography. Can anyone help? Laïka 21:47, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

nude scene in Shakespearean movies

Can someone tell me which Shakespeare movies that have a nude scene or more than one like for example the 1971 Macbeth had two nude scenes, one was when the witches were naked in front of Macbeth when there were telling him apparitions and the second was when Lady Macbeth was walk-sleeping in nude? I am only interested in the nude scenes in each movies. Thanks. Don Mustafa 19:27:00 01/26/07 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.12.155.201 (talk) 00:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]
