Place of Birth

Mongolia?! This is absurd. Of course, it's "confirmed" by Chris Marker himself, so it has to stay like this. But he has also told people that he's an expatriate American fighter pilot who crashed over France during WW2 and has lived there ever since. I'm not complaining -- the man himself is a wonderful mystery and an incredible philosopher -- I just think that reporting "Mongolia" as his place of birth in such a matter-of-fact way is rather disingenuous. - Lontano (talk) 12:20, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Ellis in his documentary history says he was born in a suburb of Paris 74.71.28.133 (talk) 21:06, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth changed to Paris, France. Keep Mongolia since 2008 without giving more details has no sense. Everywhere says that he was born in a suburb of Paris. --114.127.246.5 (talk) 14:50, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

Since it is highly unlikely that a photo of Marker will ever become available for the purposes of this artilce, I suggest that the request for a photo be removed. I personally have a book with a photo of him (and would welcome suggestions of how to legally use it), but given the nature of Marker I doubt that any photo will be usable.--206.188.55.235 (talk) 22:03, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not so much a myth as a factual improbability

From the article:

At some point during the war he left France and joined the United States Air Force as a paratrooper, although some sources claim that this is a myth.

I'll say. Given that the context of the sentence is World War II, the fact that the United States Air Force was not established until 1947 makes it extremely unlikely that he served with them during the war.

Also, the USAF does not have paratroopers. Paratroopers are ground troops dropped from the air, and are part of the United States Army. 67.162.236.230 (talk) 03:59, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

Am I wrong or is there no discussion of Bouche-Villeneuve's name change to "Marker"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isoruku (talkcontribs) 17:52, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(8 years later) Is someone going to respond to this query? Is it encyclopedic to have an article about someone who changed their name, and not devote a single word to when or why they made that change? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 03:44, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More information concerning "Description d'un combat"/ "Description of a Struggle"

According to this YouTube interview with filmmaker Michel Khleifi, Marker disavowed this film and refused it to be shown later in his life. Interview published August 12, 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQWeJ3wfsY8 See minutes 6:30 to 9:00 At minute 10:15-10:45, Khleifi mentions French-Israeli filmmaker Eyal Sivan claimed this is not true.

There is a good deal of controversy here to be discussed.

Also, it may be good to add details of how this film is viewed 50+ years afterwards. For instance, something like "Palestinian-born filmmaker Michel Khleifi has stated that this film is propaganda". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.115.219.58 (talk) 14:12, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
