H.E.R changes

Hey!

I indeed edited the notes because I recognised the Michael Jackson vocals from 'You Rock My World'. It's such a nerdy detail that it isn't published anywhere yet. But I also noticed that in the same notes it said Ant Clemons provides background vocals on 'Damage' which was stated without citation and hasn't necessarily been confirmed anywhere. What's the difference between that note and mine? Just asking for future reference!

Hello, Qwerfjkl,

First, thanks for your work here. But I do have one request, when you decline redirect request, you typically ask the editor to supply you with relevant information that would justify the redirect. But then you close the request as declined. Most editors, especially new ones, will only see the message that the request was declined and not open the discussion to see your request. So, could you leave the declined requests open for at least a day after you've declined them instead of immediately closing them? Then it would give the requester an opportunity to respond. First, thanks for the talk page notice. I don't always check for pings. If the script that closes discussions does this, then I guess I should really be talking to Enterprisey. Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Qwerfjkl, I am trying to understand what is the problem with the references I have provided. Paolo Ruggiero is a page I already created on wikipedia Italia, so this is a translation. If the references where ok for the Italian page, why shouldn't they be fine for the English version? Recent changes

  • The tool to find, add and remove templates was updated. This is to make it easier to find and use the right templates. It was supposed to come to the first wikis on 7 July. It was delayed to 12 July instead. It will come to more wikis later this year. [1][2]
  • Special:UnconnectedPages lists pages that are not connected to Wikidata. This helps you find pages that can be connected to Wikidata items. Some pages should not be connected to Wikidata. You can use the magic word __EXPECTED_UNCONNECTED_PAGE__ on pages that should not be listed on the special page. [3]

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 July. It will be on all wikis from 22 July (calendar).

Future changes

  • Advanced item How media is structured in the parser's HTML output will soon change. This can affect bots, gadgets, user scripts and extensions. You can read more. You can test it on Testwiki or Testwiki 2.
  • Advanced item The parameters for how you obtain tokens in the MediaWiki API were changed in 2014. The old way will no longer work from 1 September. Scripts, bots and tools that use the parameters from before the 2014 change need to be updated. You can read more.

Let me first talk about the insufficient context sentence wise.
The Departmental Council of Gard (French: Conseil Départemental du Gard, Occitan: Conselh Departamental de Gard) is the deliberative assembly of the Gard department of France.: This simply mentions that a certain departmental council is a deliberative assembly (a meeting of members who use parliamentary procedure; a smaller version of the parliament) of a certain department in France, link to terms are given for meaning.
It consists of 46 members (general councilors) from 23 cantons and its headquarters are in Nîmes.: This says that the above mentioned council has 46 members elected from 23 cantons of the department and its head office is in the commune of Nimes.
Then comes a list of vice presidents of the council, now cited with 2 self-published reliable sources.
The article as of now has four good citations, and the article can be easily understood by anyone (although I accept the fact that some might not get what a department is). As per your userbox, you have been here for 5 months now. How did you, in this short period of time, become an extended confirmed user, pending changes reviewer, rollbacker, autoconfirmed user, Apprentice Editor (and some other titles)? I have been here for over an year, I still am an editor with just 830 edits. Is it because you knew all about Wikipedia before joining or you were too dedicated to Wikipedia for 5 months? @Excellenc1 My edit count is mainly due to WP:AWB and WP:CTIOC (though that is irrelevant and doesn't reflect any experience). Rights are fairly easy to gain if you are eligible, and I have previously done large amounts of anti-vandalism work. About making changes to the Dharampal page on Wikipedia

Hi, a few weeks ago, I had a discussion with you on a Wikipedia entry where the changes were rolled back repeatedly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharampal).

At that time, an analysis showed that the IP-Check-Tool on Wikipedia seemed to identify as violations, publication information (such as book title, author, etc) as well as run of the mill phrases (such as, (i) “…thinker, historian and political philosopher”, (ii) ”… of the cultural, scientific and technological achievements of Indian society on the eve of the British conquest” (iii) “Gandhiji’s call for Individual Satyagraha in October 1940”,).

In light of this discovery, it was concluded that there were no violations of IP or copyright in the changes being made. Today (and yesterday), I have made significant changes to the previous text in order to provide a reasonably comprehensive summary of Dharampal's life and work.

I am burdening you with this information as a measure of precaution intended to prevent a recurrence of a roll-back on the Wiki entry.

I have revised and re-published the article on Richmond Bartlett. I converted the external links in the body of the article to Wikilinks, and I added relevant references to the Early life and Professional life sections, per your advice. The new text and references also bring more cohesion to the overall article between Bartlett's professional/personal life and his research accomplishments.

I have added a citation to an online source in the two places in the article where you recommended having this. It references & verifies his retirement and death dates, along with dates of professional advancement that I included in the article.

Thanks for accepting this article and posting it, but I noted that after you did this, another editor removed the two figures from the revision that you posted. They really are central to the article, are referenced in the text, and illustrate key ideas of Bartlett. Can you put these back in for me, or what is the protocol on this?

  • A new version of MediaWiki came to the Wikimedia wikis the week before last week. This was not in Tech News because there was no newsletter that week.

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 July. It will be on all wikis from 29 July (calendar).

Future changes

  • If you use the Monobook skin you can choose to switch off responsive design on mobile. This will now work for more skins. If ⧼monobook-responsive-label⧽ is unticked you need to also untick the new preference Enable responsive mode. Otherwise it will stop working. Interface admins can automate this process on your wiki.
