Topics of interest

Race-based school disciplinary inequalities

[edit]

I am interested in this topic because school disciplinary policies and punishments can have serious impacts on a student’s education, and many studies have shown that students of color—especially African Americans—tend to receive punishments disproportionately. Having looked at the Educational inequality in the United States page on Wikipedia, I noticed that this issue was not well discussed on the page. I think that meaningful additions could be added to the content of this page to provide greater detail and more statistics about school discipline and its effects on minority students, as well as information about proposed reforms.

Political representation in the United States

[edit]

I am interested in this topic because in the United States there are many significant disparities regarding the demographic make-up of elected officials. These disparities result in a lack of truly representative representation that affects different races and ethnicities, women, and members of the LGBTQ community. To elaborate on this issue, I plan on contributing to the “Politics of the United States” article. This article has a relatively wide focus, but it also includes sections about political culture and concerns about the state of American politics. I believe that providing information about disparities in political representation would offer meaningful additions to those sections and the article as a whole.
