CAN SOMEONE MAKE A SPANISH VERTION??

The article says

Arecibo has a small noncommercial airport, which has not had airline flights in about two decades.

I find it hard to believe that, with the observatory nearby, no one wants to fly to Arecibo. Perhaps what this really should say is that there have been no flights by major commercial carriers?

Also, using language like "in about two decades" does not work well on Wikipedia, since it rapidly gets out of date. Two decades from when? In ten years, it will be three decades. Say, rather, that there have been no flights since the mid 1980s (if that is correct).

I don't know how to fix either of these problems, so someone else will have to do it. — Nowhither 21:28, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

• The flights are mostly local flights around the island and rarely are there any flights over seas. Most flights there are performed for sport rather than transportation although that's not to say that there aren't any commercial flights every now and then. In fact, the airport is a common area for sky diving and other aerial sports. - A local

• Also, There is a UPS station located within very short distance of the airport so maybe the planes and helicopters there are most likely used by private companies to deliver merchandise throughout the island. - A local

Basketball

There is an odd statement in the Sports section:

The Capitanes have not had much luck in their basketball tournaments, but in 2002, they started to turn things around, losing in 7 games ....

An unlucky team started to turn things around by losing 7 games? Maybe someone could restate this? (Someone who knows more about the Capitanes than I do.) — Nowhither 21:28, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

Location of the Observatory

Does anyone know whether or not the observatory is actually located in Arecibo? Looking at the map it looks like it may be in Utuado or possibly even Hatillo instead. I modified the lead to that article... Tomer^talk 18:36, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

- It is located near the suburbs of Dominguito, which is in the south of Arecibo. It is a very mountainous area not unlike the terrain of Utuado and it can be pretty cumbersome to get there. - A local

It is in Arecibo. My Abuela lives in Arecibo and accually, my Uncle works there. I've been in the pool and in the building and it's driving distance from my Abuela's. So, Yes, it is in Arecibo.-mooshi800

"in the nation of" vs. "on the island of"

I changed it to just "in", since the map is clearly a political one, not a geographic one. If it were geographic, Mona, Vieques and Culebra would be in the correct places. They're not part of the island of Puerto Rico, yet they're included on the map, so "on the island of" is not the best description. So, it's a political map, and therefore, since PR is not independent (as well as for any number of other patently obvious reasons), "in the nation of" is just plain...well, WRONG. Taking out "nation" and "island" we get just "in", and miracle de milagros, it makes perfect sense that way, and perfect uncontroversial sense. Hopefully the litigants will see it my way and not fight about it further. Tomer^talk 07:25, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Schools and Universities

I noticed there are no mentions of schools or universities in the article. The main universties in Arecibo are the University of Puerto Rico Arecibo(or the UPRA for short, although it was formerly known as CUTA( "Colegio de Tecnología y Arte" (?))), The Inter-American University and Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico Arecibo Recinct(whose main branch is located in Ponce, in the south of the island).

I'll probably add it in the near future once my chronic procrastination is cured :) - A local

Festivals

I added the "Festival de paracaidismo de Puerto Rico" (Freefall Festival) that happens at the Arecibo Airport. References are needed. If no one adds it I'll do it as soons as possible JairoLAM (talk) 03:53, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
