School sports

The Dodgeville school district sports teams are known by the name of Dodgeville Dodgers. The school has used icons in the past to represent their idea of a Dodger. One such icon was Dodger Dan, a beret-wearing muscle man. However, the icon was dropped in favor of the letter D being used for the team symbol.

Football

Mike Beranek is the current head coach of the Dodgeville Dodgers Football team. He took over as head coach during the 1999 Football Season after the previous head coach Johnson left after Game 2 (Fennimore) for an Athletic Director position in Mount Horeb. Beranek, in his 8 years as the Dodgeville Head Coach, has led the team to 2 Conference Championships and three playoff appearances. His current record as head coach of the Dodgeville Dodgers is 35-41.

Former coach Bob Buck led the Dodger Football team to 6 winning seasons in his 12 years as head coach. In 1986, he led one of the most prolific teams in Dodger history(9-0), which gave the school its first-ever playoff berth. Coach Buck was named Wisconsin Coach of the Year for the 1986 season. As a defensive coordinator in 1973, he led the Dodgers to a Southern 8 best "49 points" allowed in an 8 game season (WFCA). He was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999.

John "Weenie" Wilson, a graduate from Richland Center, became the head football coach for Dodgeville in 1944. During his college years, Wilson played football for the University of Wisconsin from 1933-35. He became a starter as a halfback in 1935. John Wilson was a "nationally ranked punter and also returned a punt for one of the longest returns of that era (WFCA)." He "joined the Green Bay Packers in 1938," but decided to join and serve "in the U.S. Navy during WWII" from 1939-1943. He recieved his teaching degree and taught at Dodgeville High School. Wilson was also the head football, basketball, and baseball coach. He coached the Dodgeville Dodger Football team to a record of "47-43-6" over his "17 years" as head coach. He, as a defensive coordinator in 1958, led a Dodger defense that only gave up "20 points" over an "8 game season." He was inducted to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996. He is also the only coach in Wisconsin history to be inducted into all three Halls of Fame: Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

Volleyball

The Dodgeville Volleyball program was first started in 1973. Volleyball has been a successful sport for Dodgeville over the years, earning State Championships on 3 different occasions. Several coaches have found success at Dodgeville, including Julie Van Epps and Kathy Bramlett. The current Volleyball coach is Janet James. Originally a contender in Division 3, 2001 marked the first year that the Dodger Girls competed in Division 2 post-season play. The 1996 Dodger girls volleyball team was perhaps one of the most dominating teams to come out of Dodgeville, outmatching its opponents 70-7 to reach an undefeated 12-0 season and win the state championships.

Cross country

Dodgeville and Mineral Point currently collaborate for the Cross Country Teams. The Dodge-Point Co-op for Cross Country began in 1992. Denny McGraw is the current coach for both the boys and girls Cross Country teams. The Dodgeville Girls Cross Country team is perhaps one of the most successful girls teams for Dodgeville High School. The team has made the state race for 11 straight seasons (1996-2006), earning two championships and two runner-up victories.

The Girls Cross Country team was formed in the early 1980s when Michelle Price joined the Cross Country team. She, as the only girl on the team, would bring popularity to the sport. The team's numbers began to grow as there were three members on the team by 1982. Michelle Price was Dodgeville's first female participant in the state Cross Country meet where she ran to an 11th place finish. Dodgeville was able to field a full Varsity Girls Cross Country Team by 1985.

Girls basketball

The Dodgeville School District brought Girls Basketball back into the fold for the 1974-1975 season after a long-term hiatus from Dodgeville sports. There was a Girls Basketball team during the early 1900s, it was dropped over time due to lack of participation. Josh Busch is the current head coach for the Dodgeville Dodger Girl Basketball team.

The program was expanded in the 1992-1993 season when Dodgeville began a co-op with Mineral Point gymnastics team. This decision was made to help cope with declining participation numbers. The Dodge-Point gymnastics team is becoming more popular and more successful each year.
