CC Venezuela + WHO Editathon to improve health knowledge
Date2021

The CC Venezuela + WHO Editathon to improve health knowledge is a meetup that will be carried out in collaboration with Creative Commons Venezuela and the World Health Organization, with the collaboration of Wikimedia Venezuela.

We plan to host an online Edit-a-thon (or editathon) where members of the Wikimedia Venezuela and Creative Commons Venezuela communities, under the guidance of WHO experts and postgraduate students, review, modify and enhance current Wikipedia pages related to subjects in the field of human nutrition, and others the WHO department considers relevant.

An editathon is an activity in which several people come together with the aim of creating new content on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Other objectives of the editathon include:

  • Train people in hypertextual writing and editing for any site on the Internet and especially for Wikipedia
  • To attract new users to contribute to Wikipedia by creating and improving public health articles.

Program

  • In an online format (e.g. editors and experts work from their respective homes) with a morning session (GMT-4) for welcome, presentations and Q&A, follow up by synchronous and asynchronous work during the rest of the day.
  • During the day, the different teams communicate using several platforms (like Telegram, Discord or Mattermost) to exchange ideas and review the updates.
  • Previous to the event, we will review and identify ~50 Wikipedia articles to work on, focusing on the relevant subjects in the area of human nutrition.
  • During all the process, we will monitor the development of the event to evaluate the progress, keep engaged and assist the participants, and review if the event fulfils the objectives and can/should be replicated.
