Polygon Wave EP (ポリゴンウェイヴ EP) was released on September 22, 2021 by Japanese electropop group Perfume.[1]
Background and release
A month after the title's track release, an announcement was made that there is going to be an EP with the same name as the lead single for physical releases. The tracklist and cover had been published including a teaser.[2][3]
On September 22, 2021, the EP was released. Two limited editions of it were released with the title's track cover. One including a DVD, and the other including a Blu-ray.[4][5]
Music and lyrics
Musically, The EP is an electronic "mini-album" with the uses of funk and techno.[6][7] The first track, the original mix of the lead track, "Polygon Wave", includes an additional a minute and a half.[8] Touki stated the track's style is similar like the .Nakata's regular extended and album mixes.[7] "Polygon Wave" has been said to be using elements such as a funky guitar and a synth piano by music critics.[8][9] The track's lyrics has been seen explaining about an "artificial world".[7]The third track, a remix of the lead track, has been describe as an 80's-like remix.[7][8] Vocals in the fifth track, "Mugen Loop", sounded as "youthful and bouncy". Music critics also noted that the the track sounded similar to "Clockwork", one of the tracks from their Level3 album.[9][8][7] "Android&", expressed by Random JPop "sharing a similar carefree Summer vibe" with "Polygon Wave".[9] The lyrics tells about an Android.[7] The final track, "System Reboot", has been stated as a track that is "focused to the music instead of the girls".[8]
