Talk

Welcome to my talk. Feel free to offer any constructive comments. Also my goal is to make wikipedia a better place and get rid of vandalism!

A welcome from Sango123

Hello, Dog Eat Dog World, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Re: vandalism

As long as you've registered an account you're fine. --Winter 18:59, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: help

Hi, DEDW. If you wish to become an administrator on Wikipedia, then continue contributing, reverting vandalism, and engaging in civil user interaction. Currently, you only seem to have 74 edits and a three-day old account, which indicate that you're far too inexperienced and new to become an admin. Try editing the project namespace (Wikipedia:), becoming more involved in the community, and continuing to patrol recent changes. Within about 2000 edits' and several months' time, you'll probably be ready to submit a request for adminship. You're off to a great start! Read Wikipedia:Administrators and Wikipedia:Administration FAQ if you'd like to know more. Regards, Sango123 (talk) 20:22, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Have you been directly affected (e.g., blocked) due to 70.88.161.146's vandalism?

Vandalism on "HoboWars"

Hi. I saw you asking for assistance in your change summaries of the HoboWars-History. I see you put a warning on the vandals' talk-page. That's exactly the right thing to do. If you don't want to type out a warning you can use one of several boilerplate warnings listed at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace (or WP:UTM for a shorter link). The Wikipedia policy on vandalism is outlined at Wikipedia:Vandalism (or WP:-( for a shorter link). Glad to have you on the anti-vandalism team! Cheers, Netizen 16:31, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism Tools

Vandalism tools can be found on this page. To add these scripts, you have to goto your monobook file, which is User:Dog Eat Dog World/monobook.js if you use the default skin. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Ichiro (会話|+|投稿記録|メール) 23:05, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help has arrived

You left a message on User_talk:Yamamoto_Ichiro for help right? The quickest way to revert is press on History, select the previous version, edit it and save it. See: Wikipedia:Revert Dr Debug (Talk) 23:16, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what obout the scripts thing? i still don't get it Dog Eat Dog World 23:20, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are ways faster than that, for example, one could use popups if they have javascript enabled. To do this, you must goto this page and add these lines, this will enable the popups, which have the potential to make faster reverts.
// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

--Ichiro (会話|+|投稿記録|メール) 23:21, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

augh!

i still don't understand! i do not know computers that well!

After you got the lines on your monobook file. You have to reset your browser cache. The instructions for clearing the cache is on your monobook file. After that, you should see the popups when you move your mouse over a wikilink. The popups can be used for easy reversion. For example, you could goto the history page and move your mouse over a history revision. Then a popup should show up and you can revert using that popup. --Ichiro (会話|+|投稿記録|メール) 23:30, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i don't see the cache thing. oh yeah how do u put those cool things in ur profile with the pictures and the facts next to them like on sango123's profile?

If you can't get the cache to work, then try to log out and log in, you should see the popups for sure. --Ichiro (会話|+|投稿記録|メール) 01:08, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. do you know of any other tools for my monobook or for anti vandalism? Dog Eat Dog World 19:03, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are no tools for anti-vandalism. His vandalism will be reverted. If he does, continue he will be repeatedly blocked. Eventually he'll get bored and stop (vandals have short attention spans). If it becomes a serious issue, you may want to post at Wikipedia:Resolving_disputes. Let me know if you need any more help. :) Gflores Talk 19:08, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dog_eqt_dog.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you. -- Carnildo 12:48, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(see above, then the image under summary) Dog Eat Dog World 18:37, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't claim to be an expert at copyright, but I strongly suspect that this image can't stay on Wikipedia. It is marked as copyrighted/licensed to fotosearch.com (the image itself is watermarked, and it says so on the website). You might have been confused by the royalty free bit- that only means you can use the image multiple times after purchasing it. So basically I'm pretty sure that the image is going to get deleted from Wikipedia. If you have any further questions ask here (I'm watching the page) or on my talk page. Petros471 18:59, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, you won't be able to use it on your talk page if it is deleted (which as I said above it probably will be). The only some images in copyright can be used on Wikipedia is under 'fair-use', but that only applies to articles (i.e. you are able to use less images on userpages than in articles). There's more detail in the official Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Copyrights#Image_guidelines. Might seem harsh, but this is a free encyclopedia! Petros471 19:21, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Hi, I've noticed you've been doing a lot of clearing up after vandals. I feel I should point out to you that it is best to warn the vandal to stop vandalising using a warning template (a list of these can be found here). You can find out more about clearing up after vandals at Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol. Keep up the good work :-) --Latinus (talk (el:)) 21:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice username BTW :-) --Latinus (talk (el:)) 21:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vandalism

I would like to apologize for my fellow students activities on these computers, they truly are miscreants, please, do not block our school's IP from Wikipedia though. Despite the, ugh, idiocy of some fellow students, this site has a wealth of free information that our school would find incredibly useful. So, please do not block us on account of some cretins.

i uploaded a new image help me plz. here's the url ( http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.goenglish.com/GoEnglish_com_DogEatDog.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.goenglish.com/1809.asp&h=195&w=270&sz=18&tbnid=x7t4HoMM63TU3M:&tbnh=78&tbnw=108&hl=en&start=37&prev=/images%3Fq=dog+eat+dog+world&start=20&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&sa=N )

That image is almost certinaly copyrighted, so you wouldn't be able to use that on wikipedia, even under fair use provisions you couldn't use it on your userpage. See WP:COPY. Thanks --pgk(talk) 23:58, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yes

"P.S. Have you been directly affected (e.g., blocked) due to 70.88.161.146's vandalism? Sango123"

remember this? well yes i have been affected! I can't edit when some idiot across the room is vandalising just to piss me off and then he gets the ip blocked! Dog Eat Dog World 01:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(see above)Dog Eat Dog World 01:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't rembeber this. Can you better explain the situation?--Commander Keane 06:05, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well since my school shares an ip adress when people vandalize to the point that they get blocked i can't use (or edit) wikipedia constructivly and this really annoys me because i have to wait to get back on! and i REVERT vandalism. Dog Eat Dog World 14:31, 16 February 2006 (UTC) so plz unblock, it is still blocked until like 5:00pm today! and it's only 8:00am! Dog Eat Dog World 14:39, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is a tricky situation, becasue unblocking the IP may result in more vandalism. You need to speak with the blocking admin (probably via email if you are blocked). If you do speak to them, make sure you copy the whole block message, and include your IP.--Commander Keane 15:05, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

special

is there anyway i could get special privleges so that JUST I could edit? like the ip will not be blocked for ME?

(see above) (perferably rexNL or sango123) Dog Eat Dog World 20:00, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No it simply doesn't work like that, if the ip is blocked then everyone signed on or not from that IP is also blocked --pgk(talk) 20:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

than what am i supposed to do for the next 5 hours?? sit here?? i have nothing else to do! p.s. do you think some one could make me a bot?

so plz unblock the ip.... Dog Eat Dog World 20:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As Commander Keane suggests above, your best option is to contact the blocking admin. Regarding bots, you are being a bit vague, a bot to do what? Many people have bots and if a specific tasks needs doing will run them, but you need to be specific. Running bots also requires permission... --pgk(talk) 20:16, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok i would use it to revert vandalism, and i think rexNL is on vacation.....

You can't use a bot for that, a bot has no way of knowing if a certain edit is vandalism or not, you have to look at it, there are lots of people reverting vandalism other than RexNL, in fact RexNL has only been active here for about a month and a half. --pgk(talk) 21:24, 16 February 2006 (UTC

plz unblock!!! i am not the only 1 affected! arrrgghghghghghg!!!! Dog Eat Dog World 21:32, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyrights

Hi. I noticed that you have uploaded a couple of "free pictures" from Internet sites. In fact, just because a picture is available on Google Image search or some other website does not mean that we can freely redistribute it. Unless we can find a specific place where the person who owns the copyright to the picture explicitly grants permission, we have to assume that it is copyrighted and unavailable to us. Please take a look at the Copyright FAQ for more info. FreplySpang (talk) 01:18, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

help

then where do i get 1 from???? i have looked everywhere!!!!! THERE ARE NO "FREE" DOG EAT DOG WORLD PICTURES!!!! if you can find one then tell me but until then, what do i do????

fine i emailed them...asking for special permisson to use it. i am also going to upload a picture that I made, it is captain cruch with a "W" instead of a C and i am going to put Wikify me captain underneath it. ok? Dog Eat Dog World 18:02, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"what do I do????" Um, what you do is live without a picture. (Or, I suppose, you could change your username to something that has a free picture available.) If your "Wikify me captain" picture is a simple copy of the trademarked Cap'n Crunch figure, then no, that's not acceptable either. Also, Wikipedia needs a special kind of permission to be able to redistribute images - see Wikipedia:Boilerplate requests for permission for examples. FreplySpang (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have an idea

hey i have an idea, on my user page i created a non-existing team called the Wiki-Swiss Help Team. it doesn't exist yet, but is there a way i could create such a thing? it would be to help out other users and for anti-vandailism. tell me what you think Dog Eat Dog World 22:08, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(see above)

Well wikipedia already has lots of people doing RC Patrol and various forms of help so I'm not sure there is a need for another team, I'm not sure how you can provide suitable help for other people without first gaining experience for yourself. --pgk(talk) 00:24, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

here's the permission

here's the permission by the person on goenglish.com he emailed me this:

"I wouldn't mind you using that one illustration personally in a specific (and limited) context, but I would not want it to be distributed for use by anone else. (Meaning: no way do I want any goenglish illustrations to become part of the "public domain")

Again, if there is such a limited context, please send me a request for that before proceeding. If it is reasonable, I will probably agree. Officially, it would have to be on a temporary basis, with no transfer of copyright whatsoever. Thanks! Adam Sullivan"

is there any way i could upload the picture so i could use it JUST on my userpage? and NOT release it to the public?

(see above)

No you can't use it then. Wikipedia can't use copyrighted images like that, even if the owner gives persmision for only Wikipedia to use it. --Commander Keane 15:49, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

aww... Dog Eat Dog World 15:50, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i have another question

scince captain crunch is already on wikipedia, i can use it right? but when i edit it to put a w instead of a C i can't upload it because it's a .bmp what do i do?

I don't really know what captain crunch is. But if it is copyrighted and you are going to claim fair use (like you would with, say, a cereal box) you can only use the fair use image in an appropriate article. You can not use fair use images on your userpage. .bmp is not an allowed image format. You will need to convert it to .jpg or .png or .svg. You would do that in an image program. For example in MSPaint you would open up the image and then Save as... .jpg etc. --Commander Keane 16:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok that didn't work (because it didn't give me the option) is there any site that u know of where there are "free" images?

There are heaps of free images at the Commons, and they are already uploaded. I'm not sure where to find free images online, you could ask on the Reference desk if you have no luck. I have no idea what the copyright status is of the painting, but you can't assume it's free.--Commander Keane 16:24, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well i uploaded it so u can see it on my page. Dog Eat Dog World 16:25, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. It is not a free image. I have deleted it. If you don't know for sure that it's freely available, please don't upload it for your userpage. It the page that you take the image from doesn't say CLEARLY that the image is free, or freely redistributable, you don't know for sure. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Invisible children lolo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Invisible children lolo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. In the process of bringing Wikihalo back to life, I'm checking for "illegally" awarded Wikihalos. A wikihalo can be awarded only by a discussion at its page, not by a single user. However, it seems that many users haven't understood this, and have awarded wikihalos without a proper nomination and so on.

I've discovered that you're displaying a wikihalo, but I haven't found the discussion related to it. Only five people have received a wikihalo (and one of 'em dubiously), and you aren't listed as one of 'em.

So, I'm very sorry, but unless you provide the link to the discussion, I have to ask you to remove the award from your userpage and/or any other page on which you are displaying it.

If you could point me to the diff with it was awarded to you, I can try to discover what's behind it ;-)

Thank you for your cooperation and happy editing,
