About Me

[edit]

My name is Prashanth, and I am an undergraduate student at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I am mainly interested in environmental and human rights issues and am excited to be a part of the Wikipedia community. Last year, as a part of Rice University's Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities department, I successfully developed two pages including Education in Mali and Debt bondage in India. Please look below for more information about my activity as a student editor, the WikiProjects I am a part of, and my most recent projects. Currently, I am helping out with a BLM and AAPI Ally Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.

Fall 2019 Project : Education in Mali

[edit]

Last Fall, I developed the Education in Mali Page by adding more information about the educational history, structure, barriers, literacy, and initiatives in Mali. All together, I added over 80,000 characters to this page and hope to have created a stronger platform for other Wiki Editors to work on this page. More importantly, I was able to effectively use my resources to spread meaningful and valuable information about education in Mali, a topic that deserves more coverage. Since this project gave me valuable exposure to the Wikipedia community, I hope to use this experience to develop more pages in the future!

Spring 2020 Project: Debt Bondage in India

[edit]

Last Spring, I developed the Debt bondage in India page. I specifically brought more attention to the history of debt bondage in India, the reasons why this practice continued despite the 1976 Labor Act, who exactly is involved in debt bondage, consequences of this practice, and initiatives that have been taken to tackle this issue.
