Onikyodai as Teammates

Are the Onikyodai necessarily Teammates of Zabuza and Haku? I thought they were just ninja that served Gato or Zabuza in a failed assassination attempt. The fact that they also weren't present in the battle on the Great Naruto Bridge doesn't support them being teammates either.

They were captured by Kakashi, dumby!

-Zabuza doesn't seem like the sort to have teammates, beside Haku obviously. I just figured that they were all ninja that Gatou hired, who happened to be nuke-nin from kirigakure.

Zabuza's Eyebrow's

Is there any reason why at some times Zabuza has eyebrows and at other times he doesn't? - Sasuke-kun27

actually, zabuza does have eyebrows, its just that sence he is looking angry all the time so they are bent on an angle with his eyes, and there are very few shots in which it is close enough to notice

Then why does Naruto refer to him as a browless freak in Japan and he made a slightly different comment about Zabuza having no eyebrows in english?

That's because he doesn't have eyebrows, the English dub messed it up, so at times he has no eyebrows and at others he has them, it's just a technical error made when the U.S. was dubbing it. In the oringinal Japenese version he has no eyebrows the entire time (this is also seen in the manga).Sam ov the blue sand 01:52, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Momochi Zabuza → Zabuza Momochi – As pointed out in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Anime_and_manga#Naruto_character_article_titles, the current names for articles about Naruto characters are inconsistent with the names used for other anime characters (Naruto characters use Japanese order for names, while most other anime characters have their name in Western order), as well not following the naming guidelines in WP:MOS-JA.

Question concerning etymology

Zabuza apparently means never cuts twice, but this doesn't make sense to me. Considering the verb 切る (kiru) means to cut, I'm wondering if this is just something I'm not familiar with (I'm not a native speaker nor am I fluent) or is of chinese derivation. On that note, what's the deal with the Zanbatou? Horse cutting sword? I get the to suffix, but isn't うま (uma) horse? 154.20.135.89 03:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

From Jim Breen's WWWJDIC, the last kanji in Zabuza reads and means '斬 ... ザン サン セン ゼン き.る beheading; kill; murder'. The first two kanji together mean something along the lines of "not repeated", "not done again". Given this, the translation is somewhat figurative.

As for the Zanbatō, the article gives the kanji as 斬馬刀 - literally "kill horse sword." --Pentasyllabic 12:24, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see, so it's a kanji thing. Since spoken Zabuza is just a name, and Zanbatō means horse killing sword do to the mandarin Kanji, shouldn't a note be made in the articles that it's not literal Japanese? 154.20.135.89 20:49, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

By the way, did you know that Zabuza performs the Water Clone Jutsu with a half tiger seal, and Kisame Hoshigaki has to use a full tiger seal to create Water Clones? Dragonball1986

Eyebrows

They are just lines to show he is angry. The space between the slanted lines and the top ones are where his eyebrows would be if he had any. Desert Spada 01:16, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Sword

Is it just me, or does Zabuza's sword change size?

Zabuza's sword isn't one a real ninja would carry around. It actually looks alot like a ZWYHONDER a German sword used for chopping off legs of hourses. Also, if the sword really is a zwyhonder, then why would he carry it around in a timeframe like Naruto's? It doesn't make sense.

Do you mean Zwiehander? It is called a zanbato in Japan, and it did exist for that very reason you listed, by the way. But to answer the question, that is merely an example of the animation department slipping up in the early episodes. It does seem to change sizes often... Treima 02:10, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Ya, I didn't know how to spell zwiehonder. But if a Zanbato was used for cutting off the legs of hourses, why does Zabaza use it to cut people in half and stuff like that? It is pretty friggin awsome though.

For the same reason Sagara Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin used it to cut people in half: it is merely a fantasy rendition of a historical weapon, like Itachi's shuriken tricks in Sasuke's flashbacks: do you seriously think someone would, or even could, do that kind of crazy trick in real life?
