The Institute for Black Catholic Studies (IBCS) is an interdisciplinary Catholic graduate program at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans that specializes in Black Catholic theology. It was founded in 1980 by Fr Thaddeus Posey, OFM Cap. alongside members of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus, National Black Sisters Conference, and others. It continues to host students every summer.[1][2]
Its flagship program is a Masters of Theology program founded in 1982 with the help of Sr Jamie Phelps, OP; Msgr Edward Branch, and longtime XULA president Dr. Norman Francis. IBCS also offers certificate programs in various tracks and other enrichment opportunities.[1][2]
