Hi,

We were unaware of the Wiki’s terms and conditions and the privacy policy, we will delete all the promotion contents. Kindly guide us how to proceed further, is there a possibility to recover the same page or can we create as a new page.

Please advice.

Panarama article moved to draftspace

Hello Mccapra, with great surprise and also disappointment I learned that my article does not comply with Wikipedia's guidelines. This surprises me even more, as my article is the exact translation of my German-language article about Panarama: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panarama

In the German Wikipedia there were no problems with the publication. You have to know that I am a friend of the musician Hermann Weindorf and that my information is first hand. I can't contribute more than the two sources given in the article. So where is the problem? Remembergeorge (talk) 07:33, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Remembergeorge: hi thanks for your message. My reply will be quite long I’m afraid. In general it’s fine to translate from one wiki to another, but each wiki has its own rules and policies so the fact that a topic is accepted on one does not mean it will be accepted on another. German Wikipedia does things differently - I’m not familiar with how everything works there, but there are two core policies on en.wiki. The first is Notability, meaning that the topic of the article must be covered in depth in multiple independent, reliable sources. The second is Verifiability, which means that every fact or statement included in an article must be traceable to a valid source. We often have problems with articles translated from de.wiki because they do not appear to meet one or other of these requirements.
In the case of this article, you say that it is not possible to find other sources beyond the two you provided. In fact neither of the sources even mentions Panarama so if you’re certain there are no other sources, the topic definitely is not notable and can’t be included in en.wiki. For verifiability, again, we need sources for every statement in the article. You say that you have written it based on personal knowledge, but I’m afraid that’s just not acceptable on en.wiki because it’s not verifiable.
If you can find any other sources I’d be happy to help you work in this, make it comply with our policies and bring it back from draft. All the best Mccapra (talk) 08:27, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Athlete

Hi Mccapra, you were on the page on June 28, 2021. Since then I have fixed the page so will you review it now Draft:Raybak_Abdesselem --Static Hash (talk) 07:48, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

hi thanks for working on that. Could you please submit it through Articles for Creation as you previously did on 17 July so that a reviewer with better knowledge of the topic than I have can evaluate it? Thanks Mccapra (talk) 07:52, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I made a draft and submitted it for review, Last week the Athlete won a gold medal in EKF championship that was held in Finland, so he was on all media of France. I added references & resubmitted the article. --Static Hash (talk) 07:58, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need help

Hello. I get stuck in deletion nomination process of Ali Liakat. Could you pls guide me how to deal with the process? I'm just a new reviewer. TIA. Htanaungg (talk) 08:58, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Htanaungg: I just looked at it and you’ve done it fine. The tag is on the article, and the deletion discussion page has been created and transcluded into the daily log. The only thing you didn’t do was add it to any deletion discussions listings, but don’t worry, an AfD regular will fix that (I’m not sure how to add them to a deletion page that’s already set up). Are you using the Twinkle tool to manage your AfDs? If not, I recommend it. Mccapra (talk) 11:15, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I would like to ask how to removed the redirect of "Lian Huaiwei" to page "Youth with Youth Season 3". I found that the page is highlighted that it is not fulfil notability requirement. Based on the latest information, Lian Huaiwei is officially debut as one of the Chinese group "IXFORM" on July 2021. And before that he is one of the contestants for another competition show, and he is operating his entertainment studio. Thus I think that it is not suitable to redirect. Please advise. Thanks. Roxlerz (talk) 18:07, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Roxlerz: hi thanks for your message. To remove the redirect, just go to the “edit” screen, remove the existing text, and add the text and sources for the new article you want to write. That’s all you have to do. By the way, if you are contacting another editor on their talk page, the best thing to do is to create a new section at the bottom of the page and post your questions there, instead of writing in the middle of the page. Let me know if you need any help. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 20:43, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr Mccapra, Good day, I hope you're doing fine today. Please check and help review Grace & Talent and The Certificate (album). Thanks in advance. --Idoghor Melody (talk) 11:15, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mccapra,

You were right to tag this article as a copyright violation. However, you notified the page creator, who just created this page as a redirect, not the editor who introduced all of the inappropriate content. It's an easy mistake to make if you, like me, rely on Twinkle to post notifications. But I moved your warning from the page creator's (who is inactive) talk page to that of the editor who introduced copyright violating content. Probably a good idea to check the page history when you are checking pages for blatant violations like this. Thank you for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 02:07, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Mccapra,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Pan-american games medalist removed

Hey, doesn't make any sense remove this pages as it is referenced in the wiki articles of each ediction of the games (it is possible to easily check that the information is the same). The articles just follow the same template as others created earlier, so I added the same references present on other pages in this category. Svartner (talk) 17:05, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphans in "See also" sections

Please visit Wikipedia:Orphan and Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#"See_also"_section to read about appropriate use of the "See also" section. Such linking has also been addressed at Wikipedia_talk:Orphan#"See_also"_spam. De-orphaning articles is an important task, but it shouldn't lead to link spamming of more prominent articles. And I don't think it is a good idea to put those links in other sections, like "features" (e.g. Graham_Land#Features), if the only rationale is to deorphan the articles. The section does not become representative - it should use relevance and prominence as selection criteria. - 4ing (talk) 07:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@4ing: hi thanks for your note. The MOS says “ The links in the "See also" section should be relevant, should reflect the links that would be present in a comprehensive article on the topic” and I think the items I’m adding fall within that. I can see that other editors have begun consolidating some of these stub articles into sections of larger articles, which makes sense, but is a longer term project. There are literally about a dozen Antarctica geostubs left, and while I see your point, I think it makes less sense to leave them marooned on their own so at anyone looking for features in Enderby Land or Queen Maud Land will have no easy way of finding them. In adding them to the See also section I’m not saying I think that should be their final place. Editors on the relevant WikiProject may be better placed to integrate them into the main article, if appropriate. Mccapra (talk) 08:22, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yaduvanshi

Hii dear Admin. what is the problem why this Yaduvanshi page is not showing in google search and why its connection site is associated with Yadu (legendary king) page, please solve this problem. AlexaRiveralis (talk) 17:47, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@AlexaRiveralis: hi I’m not an admin. The page won’t show on Google search until it has been passed by a new page reviewer - until then Google doesn’t index it. On the connection with Yadu, I’ve no idea. Mccapra (talk) 18:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Mccapra I search in Google Yaduvanshi, Yaduvanshi will not come, but I will search 'yaduvanshi or yaduvanshi or yadukula' then it will come and then click on it Yaduvanshi title, then Yadu (legendary king) page open, why? Why Yaduvanshi page not open? AlexaRiveralis (talk) 19:21, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not release articles for indexing on Google until they have been reviewed. Why Google shows results for Yadu when you search for Yaduvanshi is a question for Google rather than for Wikipedia. Mccapra (talk) 19:29, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fraz Wahlah

Hi Mccapra, You have added a speedy deletion tag to the article of Fraz Wahlah citing WP:G4. I created this article myself from scratch, even if another article existed and been deleted in 2018, I have not seen that, so it can't be identical to mine. The photo of Fraz Wahlah is used and his name is mentioned as the main illustration material on multiple Wikipedia pages regarding Pakistani history and MRD: Pakistan Peoples Party, Islamization in Pakistan, Human rights abuses in Pakistan under Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, and Movement for the Restoration of Democracy. In fact, the Wikipedia page of MRD mentions only three names under its main photo: Zia-ul-Haq, Fraz Wahlah and his father. Those references are there for ages, and they show the relevance of Wahlah.

The BBC also considered Fraz Wahlah as notable and covered his story multiple times, both in written version or on the radio, as it's cited on the page, alongside with further established, reliable media outlets that published his photo and named him as a symbolical person of the MRD.

Regarding his Technology career, the Pakistan Software House Association and Ms Jehan Ara are both clearly notable and have their own Wikipedia pages, and their reference to Fraz Wahlah show the importance of Wahlah's success on APICTA for the tech sector of Pakistan.

I haven't seen the original, deleted article, it may not have been referenced well, but in my opinion, this article is supported by multiple references from reliable sources, and if another page about the same person would not have been deleted earlier, this page would not be questioned at all.

I think, due to references from multiple reliable sources and the fact that Fraz Wahlah's photo is the most often used illustration material for such a well documented historical incident as the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy, this article clearly has its place on Wikipedia, so please consider removing the deletion tag. Thanks, DillonPalm (talk) 18:59, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi like you I can’t see the deleted article so don’t know how similar it is to the one you created. In my view the article you wrote is promotional and strains to demonstrate notability, so I’m happy to leave it to an admin who can see both to make the judgement. Mccapra (talk) 19:47, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I don't feel it is promotional, but thanks for your response, let the admin make the judgement. DillonPalm (talk) 23:10, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Contrahunter: thanks for your message and for working on this. As I previously sent it to draft I think it would be helpful to have another editor review it, so I have added it to the queue of articles for creation. Someone will look at it fairly soon and give a view on whether it is ready to come back into mainspace. All the best Mccapra (talk) 09:05, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Contrahunter (talk) 19:43, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your draftification of these two articles, I think it may be more worthwhile to move them back to mainspace and put them up for AfD. The creator was indefinitely blocked for various reasons, so it is extremely doubtful anyone would work on these in draftspace, and WP:DRAFTIFY is clear that it shouldn't be used as a form of shadow-deletion. Just my two-cents Curbon7 (talk) 17:14, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Curbon7: thanks for your note. I didn’t realise that about the creator. I sent the articles to draft as potentially notable but not properly sourced. Personally I’m not willing to do the prep work required to take them to AfD but if that seems right to you, go ahead and nominate them. Mccapra (talk) 19:12, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Liberal Pride

Ok so I removed the claims that had outstanding "citations needed" pending. The article only has a couple of references as it is a basic fact article, linked to a broader complex political party, it is one of many branches. Jadamondo (talk) 10:10, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jadamondo: Well it was declined at AFC just now because it “requires significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources to show notability.” It still doesn’t have that. You need more independent sources that discuss the organisation in some depth. Mccapra (talk) 10:59, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mccapara We are participating on a voluntary basis - wiki loves monuments in Qatar for the first time in the principality, this will really depress the organizers And it is not good to have this list in draft we organize the last week of october a phototalk and we need to improve this list and relay it. how many references for this aryicle page should be accepted? i understand tho policies, i'm expert in WpAa but not in WpEn, but can you help me? thanks Bachounda (talk) 21:20, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bachounda: hi - the draft article doesn’t have any sources at all. I guess there must be an official government list of monuments, or citations from tour guides….. anything really, but we can’t have an article published in main space with no sources at all. All the best Mccapra (talk) 21:25, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mccapra: That's true, I had thought I had added I realize I had done it in wikipedia Arabic only lol
I will find reliable sources and I will come back to you, if you please :) --Bachounda (talk) 21:43, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mccapra: Hi again, sorry for the typo's, Would you like to check Draft:List of historical monuments in Qatar if these links are appropriate and that the article can be submitted for review? cheers --Bachounda (talk) 22:12, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bachounda: the sourcing is now sufficient but unfortunately the page is also a copyright violation (see this). It needs to be completely rewritten as parts of it are clearly cut and pasted from another place. Once that is done I will request revision deletion to expunge the copyvio versions and it can come back into mainspace. The text descriptions are much too long for a table format anyway. That level of detail is appropriate for a full article rather than a summary table. Mccapra (talk) 06:45, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great thanks, i will remove the CW text today Bachounda (talk) 08:11, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful — there was no unreferenced content at Gazochak. TrangaBellam (talk) 21:45, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TrangaBellam: there was a single source, which is not sufficient to demonstrate notability. Mccapra (talk) 21:47, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You were not adding a notability tag.
That being said, are you aware of WP:GEOLAND which presumes the notability of [p]opulated, legally recognized places? Or WP:PLACEOUTCOMES which says, Cities and villages anywhere in the world are generally kept, regardless of size or length of existence, as long as that existence can be verified through a reliable source. TrangaBellam (talk) 21:53, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those refer to what happens at AfD, but thus article wasn’t at AfD. We use tags to encourage other editors to improve sourcing. Mccapra (talk) 22:09, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You need to get your tags correct - see Template:One source.

This template should be used only for articles where there are some, but insufficient, inline citations to support the material currently in the article. Don't use this tag for articles that contain no unreferenced material, even if all the material is supported by a single citation.

London 176 meetup

Hello, I am very new to Wikipedia editing and saw on Wikimedia there is an event in London for which you have put your name down. Is it a formal event, and will it be easy to know who and where to go? Apologies if I have asked this in the wrong place.DannyHatcher (talk) 14:34, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyHatcher: hi thanks for your message. It would be great if you can join us. It’s not at all formal. The meeting is in a Wetherspoons pub which is very large. Some of us have lunch there. Our usual place is inside, directly in front of the main door. People come and go all afternoon depending on what else they’re doing so it’s like a long drop in session. We’re fairly easy to spot as we all look fairly nerdy (surprise) and some of us bring our computers. We talk about what we’re working on, discuss how to do things, and have the occasional moan. There are usually 6-12 people at any one time. Do you live in London and do you know how to get there? Mccapra (talk) 19:32, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like I will fit in. I live in Eastbourne so London isn't too far away, and I added the event to my Gcal so it gave me a location. Assuming the location is correct I should be able to make my way there, and as I would be travelling up for the day I might as well make the most of it and stay as long as there is a conversation.DannyHatcher (talk) 19:39, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your suggestion

Hi. Recently, I've taken an article Dumero to AfD. But creator of the article closed the AfD themselves as keep. How should I deal with that, since it's the first time I encountered. Shall I take AfD second time or reopen it? Thank you. Htanaungg (talk) 14:06, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Htanaungg: hi that’s definitely an improper close, so I think your choices are either 1. tell an admin like Rosguill or Barkeep, or 2. Report it at deletion review. Good luck Mccapra (talk) 14:27, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another reviewer from the same nation with the creator has reverted their edit and reopened the discussion again, so I'll turn a blind eye this time, just giving a warning at their talk page. And, thank you for very useful advice. I now know how to deal with such stuff. 😊 Htanaungg (talk) 14:45, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, per my understanding and from my point of view, I think the article should be kept since the sources provided are reliable sources, and the page could be improved. I would be glad if you remove the tag so that the page can be improved Thank you -- Robertjamal12 (talk) 09:17, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Robertjamal12: hi thanks for your message. Once a deletion discussion has started it runs for a week in most cases and the community evaluates the case for deletion. Articles require in depth coverage in multiple reliable sources and this article doesn’t have that. If you have other sources, you can add them while the discussion is going on. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 11:03, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mccapra:, I clearly understand, The Article is a stub and more than one reliable source was cited in the article so I don't get the multiple reliable sources that the article you nominated for deletion lack, because more than two sources were cited and they are all reliable. Anyways, it's best we all reach a consensus in the discussion. Thank you -- Robertjamal12 (talk) 14:16, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Burslem Port Trust

Hi, I strongly disagree with your posting a tag suggesting that notability is required for this topic. The Trust is a significant attempt to reopen a diused branch on the summit level of the Trent and Mersey Canal, and It has the support of many hundreds of volunteers, local residents and canal enthusiasts. The Burslem branch has a great historic heritage and relevance. The existing references are from a wide variety of sources. It would be a shame if, as a result of your tag, someone goes on to decide to delete the page, which is, in my view, already sufficiently encyclopaedic and "notable". Arrivisto (talk)

Pls properly tag the pages

Can you stop mass creating article from the genus Lobophytum? I think you should stop a add and assess in the wikiproject tags.Leomk (Don't shout here, Shout here!) 07:45, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
