Pranshu Samdarshi is an Indian Buddhist scholar specializing in Mahayana and Sanskrit Buddhist literature.[1][2][3] Presently he is serving as an assistant professor at Nalanda University, Rajgir, Bihar India.[4] In April 2009, he was elected to a two-year term as National Secretary for SPIC MACAY.[5][6][7][8]

Early life and education

Samdarshi was born in 1983 at Bagaha, a small town in West Champaran, Bihar, India. His father Dinesh Bhramar is an eminent Hindi and Bhojpuri poet. After taking a bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from CUSAT, Samdarshi completed his master's degree and MPhil from the Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Delhi, working on the popular Buddhist practices of the Himalayan region in India and Nepal.[9] He has explored the dynamic relationship between sacred feminine imagery and visualization based Buddhist Tantra practice during his PhD research at the Department of History, University of Delhi.[10] For over a decade and a half, he has received teachings on Buddhist philosophical treatises from traditional Buddhist masters.[11]

Career

Prior to joining Nalanda University in 2021, Samdarshi has served as an Assistant Professor at International Centre for Spiritual Studies of Amrita University, Bengaluru campus (2019-2021).[12][13][14][15] In 2017, he was also invited to design courses on Buddhist studies at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Gangtok, Sikkim, India.[16] Since 2007, he has been actively coordinating several SPIC MACAY programs of Indian Classical Music in Delhi and across India.[17]

Books and research

Research works of Samdarshi mostly concerns the history and literature of Tantra traditions in the Himalayan regions of Southern Asia and Tibet.[18] He has authored two books [19][20] and several research papers, book chapters, and reviews for journals and magazines from publications such as Routledge,[21] Cambridge University Press,[22] The Hindu Group,[23] and Delhi University Journal.[24] He has been presenting his research findings on various aspects of historiography and relevance of Buddhist tantra through conferences and talks.[25][26] He is credited to do some pioneering research works on Buddhism in Bihar with special focus on Champaran.[27]
