Nalgonda District is a district in Andhra Pradesh. It has a population of 3,247,982 of which 13.32% is urban as of 2001. [1]
Description
Towns in the district include Nalgonda, Suryapeta, Kodad, Miryalguda , Kattangur, Bhongir, Alair, Narketpalli, Huzurnagar, Devarakonda, Yadagirigutta,Mothkur and Nakrekal.
The rivers Krishna, Musi, Aleru, Peddavagu, Dindi and Paleru flow through Nalgonda district.
There are 2 major irrigation projects in Nalgonda:
- Nagarjuna Sagar, and
- AMR (Alimineti Madhava Reddy) Project (previously known as Srisailam Left Bank Canal)

Places to visit in Nalgonda District
- Nagarjuna Sagar: 60 km from Nalgonda and 150 km from Hyderabad. Sagar, as it is called in Nalgonda, has the world's highest masonry dam and a Buddhist site dating back to the 3rd century BC. The Buddhist site, Nagarjuna Konda, is situated in the reservoir of the dam. It is named after the Buddhist monk Acharya Nagarjuna who was instrumental in spreading Buddhism in this part of the country.
