2012 Monza GP2 Series round
The 2012 Monza GP2 series round and the 2012 Monza GP3 Series round were a group of motor races held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza near Monza in Italy for the GP2 and GP3 Series championships. The races, which were run on 8 and 9 September,[1][2] was in support of the Italian Formula One Grand Prix. The GP2 races formed the eleventh round of the 2012 GP2 championship, while the GP3 races were the eighth and final round of the 2012 GP3 season.
GP2 championship contenders Luiz Razia and Davide Valsecchi both arrived at Monza with equal points. By the end of the meeting, Razia had failed to score in both races while Valsecchi finished sixth in the Feature race and won the Sprint race, which — combined with an extra two points for a fastest lap — gave him a twenty-five point lead going into the final round in Singapore.[3]
MW Arden driver Mitch Evans secured the 2012 GP3 championship in the Race 2 when his nearest title rival, Daniel Abt failed to secure enough points to take the title himself.[4]
This was also the final race for the original GP3 car, the Dallara GP3/10, as it was replaced in 2013 by the GP3/13.
