This Wikipedia page is based off Module 11:Mobile Health for the Information Technology Applied to Nursing course at Helene Fuld College of Nursing. In module 11, the task was to create a searchable database on Caspio and design a mobile app using the MIT App Inventor that linked the database. The last task was to document the learning process and upload the video on Youtube. In this module, students learned how the use of mobile devices have allowed for a simpler way of accessing things relating your health. With technology quickly innovating, the medical field has not shied away.

What is Mobile Health?

[edit]
Mobile health is also known as mHealth. Mobile health uses mobile and data communication technologies such as mobile software applications (apps) or wearable devices to support the achievement of health objectives. Mobile health is a field that is rapidly evolving as healthcare, intervention, and treatments are being targeted through mobile technologies. These mobiles can be phones, tablets, computers, PDA's, and etc.

Mobile health has been a huge step in the right direction. It is okay to say that with the COVID-19 pandemic, mobile health has become an advantage now more than ever. Prior to the pandemic, mobile health was already prevalent, but the pandemic has made it difficult for those who are already vulnerable to engage in routines such as doctor visits. Mobile health has allowed for public safety whether that is virtual appointments, chatbots, and so much more!

Mobile Health and Technology Applied to Nursing

[edit]

With this module, students gained a new perspective on nursing and what it means to be a nurse. Nursing is not just about taking care of people, it's about constantly evolving and learning something new. Whether you have been a nurse for 20 years or 2 years, you still have to keep up with the advancements, not only in the medical field, but in the whole world. Mobile health and technology has proven to be one of the best resources that nurses can have to to take better care of patients. Some specific points in the article "Development and Psychometric Testing of the Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing Instrument" stood out: 4.Technology assists nurses in knowing the “who” and “what” of persons 6. Technology and caring help to build patient self-worth when used without bias. 24. As an expression of caring in nursing, technological competence is using many ways of knowing so that the nurse and the patient can know each other. 25. Nurses use technology and human touch together in order to relate to their patients with true presence and caring intentions.

Although students in the course are still not nurses yet, with this module, students have not been able to apply these skills, it is still strongly agreed that applying these skills would be beneficial to nurses.
