Mansoor al-Jamri
Mansoor al-Jamri (Arabic: منصور الجمري) (also Mansour and Mansur) was born in Bahrain on 17 December 1961. He is the son of Bahrain's spiritual Shi'a leader, Sheik Abdul-Amir Al-Jamri.
Mansoor is the Editor-in-Chief of the independent Bahraini daily "Alwasat Newspaper". He returned from the United Kingdom in December 2001 and founded the Bahraini daily newspaper, Alwasat, following the introduction of political reforms in Bahrain. He studied in the UK where he completed his BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering at University of Paisley, Scotland. He also completed his MSc degree in engineering management at Bristol University.
While in the UK, he worked as a chartered engineer, and then as an engineering manager for BOC Process Plants (between 1990 and 1999). He had also worked as a manager for the verification company, SGS United Kingdom, in Birmingham, between 1999 and 2001.
He became a spokesperson for the Bahraini opposition group, the Bahrain Freedom Movement, between 1994 and 2001.
Between 1999 and 2001, he edited and published an intellectual newsletter "Islam21" aimed at harmonizing the concepts of Islam and democracy in the 21st century.
